Chapter 71: She’s cute, right?

Raymond’s eyes grew, surprised at Ariel’s words but he did not look towards them.

They were coming their way? Wait, he shouldn’t put too much meaning to it. They were currently at the food table so they were probably approaching to get food. They were probably like Ariel who didn’t care about eating in public.

Paige and Skylar stopped in front of them and they turned to see them.

"Hi." Paige immediately said to them with a smiling face. "I’m Paige." She stretched her hand out for a handshake but they both stared in confusion.

Raymond was quick to react and took out his hand to shake her.

"Call me Raymond." He said.

Once that was done, Ariel started wondering if Paige had taken a liking to Raymond. Well yeah, he was a handsome guy and girls swooned over him but she shouldn’t show her interest so openly, right? Especially when he was standing next to her lover.

Then all of a sudden, Paige also stretched out her hand to her for a handshake. Ariel felt a bit confused and stared at the smiling beauty who looked really friendly.

"Hi." Paige said. "My name is Paige and I hope we can get along well."

Ariel reluctantly gave out her hand and her and Paige enthusiastically caught it, shaking it with all vigor.

"It’s so nice to meet you. I always wanted to see you in person and was wondering when I would get the chance. You’re really pretty."

Ariel was outright lost. She looked over at Raymond who was equally lost.

"Please pardon my sister." Skylar spoke up and helped separate their hands. Then, he shook her hand as vigorously as Paige did. "Hi, I’m Skylar. And it’s true, you’re really pretty and we really wanted to meet you."

Ariel was short of words. She took her hand, forcefully out of his hold and rubbed it.

"First of all, do I know you?" She asked them. "No, do you know me? Maybe you do but that doesn’t give you the right to just touch me like that." She turned to Raymond and said, "I’m trying to be honest here. I can’t be polite because I am definitely lost and it’s freaking me out."

"It’s okay." Raymond said to her and turned to the both of them who were still staring at Ariel with glee in their eyes. "Excuse me, do you have something to say to my partner?" He asked them and they turned their gaze to him.

The delight and glee that shone brightly in their eyes a second ago immediately disappeared. Though it wasn’t that bad, it was clear that they held some sort of favorable image to Ariel compared to Raymond.

"Right." Paige said. "That was fairly impolite of us and we might’ve startled her."

"But we don’t mean any harm." Skylar added. "It was just so fun seeing her up close that we couldn’t control ourselves."

"And you like me because...?" She raised her eyebrows, expecting them to finish her sentence but they simply stared at her with the same gleeful smiles. "Hey." Ariel snapped her fingers. "I’m not an amusement piece."

"Of course not." Skylar retorted.

"Honey," Paige took her hands. "You are just too adorable and you remind us of our Aunt so we couldn’t help but stare at you that way. We apologize."

Ariel looked at them from one to another. And then she looked past them. They had drawn the attention of everyone in the hall towards their side and though that was what they wanted from the start, she couldn’t help but feel uncomfortable with them.

Then she looked over at Raymond who shook his head. Neither of them knew these two so for them to act so friendly, it was oddly suspicious.

Suddenly, Serena walked up to them in confidence and said,

"She’s cute, right?" They turned to her. "I knew from the moment I saw her that she was an interesting girl and I bet all sides of her look so cute. I can’t help but stare at her with a smile."

Ariel frowned at her and folded her arms. She was Serena. From the outside she looked okay but Ariel couldn’t stop that nagging bad feeling she had about her.

"If you call that creepy cackle a smile then seriously, you’re freaky." Ariel dared to say and Paige, instead of getting mad, smiled and said,

"See? I told you all her sides will look cute."

Ariel couldn’t get why she was getting this type of attention. She was supposed to be receiving hate words and eyes that could kill but these people, they were smiling and finding her amusing.

Did she look like a child to them? It was almost insulting to her character and she found herself getting angry.

But she couldn’t blow a fuse right there. They were people who Raymond wished to make connections with. Maybe, she could use this to her advantage. Or maybe not?

While thinking about this, Serena stretched out her hand to touch Ariel’s hair but Raymond immediately caught it and glared at her in a deadly way.

"Don’t you dare touch her." He said but Serena kept her smile up, even when it looked like her hand was being crushed.

"Don’t be stingy." She remarked.

Raymond, Skylar and Paige glared at Serena. They held some sort of hostility towards her but she deflected the glares. None of it mattered. She was more concerned with getting her hands on Ariel.

"Okay, I’ve had enough." Ariel burst out, shocking them and they turned to her. Was she going to scream? But then she smiled and said in a friendly tone. "Can we take this outside? I’m afraid we are disturbing the guests."

"Sure, sure. Anywhere you want to go is fine by me." Paige said, once again looking gleeful.

"Yes, yes. Let’s go out, except her." Skylar said, pointing at Serena.

"That’s right." Ariel said and held on to Raymond’s arm. She felt her legs suddenly grow weak.

It was as if their talk and actions sucked out all of her energy.

"Are you okay?" Raymond asked her and she nodded.

"Yeah, I just need a little support. I’m exhausted." She said and in a split second, was lifted off her feet. "Whoa." She quickly hooked her arms around Raymond’s neck to avoid falling and without a word, he took her out.

The rest who were left at the hall couldn’t help but murmur, wondering what connections a nobody like Ariel had with the Winston family. They were so friendly with her that you would immediately conclude that they knew each other for years.

Serena’s smile as she watched them leave quickly dropped after they were out of sight and her eyes turned dark. Those people around Ariel, she had to get rid of them if she wanted to ’play’ with Ariel.
