I Am An Illegitimate Child With A Legitimate Reason For Revenge-Chapter 263: Serena’s call
The ringing phone belonged to Raymond and he took it out of his pocket, only to discover it was an unknown number.
"Is it the kidnapper?" Jane asked and hearing that, Raymond quickly answered it.
"Hello."
The caller was silent but after a while, he heard laughing.
Since the phone was on loudspeaker, they could all hear the laughter vividly and that laugh... It belonged to only one person they knew.
Their faces contorted in furry and Raymond asked,
"Serena, what have you done this time?" He asked, furiously and the caller, Serena, ceased her laughter and said,
"It’s so nice to know you remember how I sound." She said and chuckled. "Well, why wouldn’t you? I was the one who plunged you into hell, haha." She laughed again which seriously got on his nerves.
Jane clenched her fists. This was the same lady she saw trying to act like a good sister, pretending she cared. She was the one inflicting pain in so many hearts. She was truly dangerous. They had to get rid of her once and for all to ensure such a thing did not repeat itself.
"Serena!" Raymond called through gritted teeth.
"Oh, right. Let’s get to it now, shall we? Do you want to save your precious Ariel?" She asked, clearly grinning from her side. "Or would you rather save the two little brats in my position?"
"Where are they?" Raymond demanded.
"Hold your horses, boy. This little brother of mine is still as impatient as ever." Serena chuckled and her eyes darted to the dark corner. "You have to make a choice, brother. Do you want to save the two little brats or save your long-time lover? This is the second time we’re doing this but I’ll make it easier for you so you don’t lose everything." She said but then laughed again. "That was a joke, I want you to lose everything. Every little thing that you worked hard to build, you will lose it all just like I lost it all."
"Serena!" Raymond yelled.
"Don’t yell my name. You’re the desperate one here. I’ve already lost everything so I have nothing else to lose. We can maybe negotiate a bit after we meet. I’ll call again in thirty minutes, by then, you should’ve come up with a choice, right? Where you choose is where we’ll meet to say our final goodbyes. Hahaha." She laughed evilly and cut the call.
Raymond was silent. He clenched his phone hard. This was a trap, wasn’t it?
This situation was just like the last time. But at that time... It was Leo doing the calling and though Ariel did not die, he lost her and only after five years did he get her back. Yet, it was a different version of her. He got Alexa.
This time, he did not want to lose her at all. And he did not want to lose his kids either.
"What are we going to do now?" Jane asked.
"I didn’t say this before because there were too many years but..." Steve showed her the wristwatch. "This watch doesn’t have a tracking chip. I guess that Romeo took it off before it got shattered."
"Are you sure?" Jane asked, looking at the watch. "It could’ve just fallen off somewhere."
"Let’s hope not." He said, and a team was brought forward to locate the tracking chip, as well as the chip in Alexa’s necklace.
"Even if we do find them, we can’t just rush in," Paige said as they waited for the results. "They could be in a dangerous position. Like a bomb attached to them."
Raymond got flashes of a restless Ariel with tears and a gagged mouth having a bomb tied to her leg. If the situation was like that time... If... He squeezed his fists.
"Serena wants to meet up with Raymond and we can’t do that where the children are. It could be dangerous." Steve said. "He has to meet her where Alexa is."
"That’s a good idea." Paige agreed. "And in the meantime, we save the children."
"Not we." Maxwell suddenly said and they turned to him. "I’ll save the children."
They were a bit surprised, wondering what probed him.
"I’ve gotten the coordinates." The guy behind the computer said and they hurriedly rushed to see what the results were. "Thankfully, both chips are intact. The boy has the chip and the lady has hers as well."
Hearing this, they felt relieved. With this, the mistake of last time will not be repeated.
"I’ll go to the kids." Maxwell said, but Paige held him back.
"There could be a bomb." She said, worried but he held her hand and said,
"I have a bomb expert in my team. Don’t worry, I’ll get them out of there safely." He assured and kissed her hand. "In the meantime, please stay here and don’t cry. It pains me to see your tears."
She felt touched.
Maxwell’s eyes met with Raymond’s serious eyes that were probably warning him not to let anything happen to the kids and also looking grateful.
Honestly, there was no one better at this than Maxwell so he was thankful. Leaving the kids with them would put them all at ease.
Maxwell left to gather his team.
"Romeo is so smart, to think he figured out his kidnapper was suspicious and took out the tracking chip from the watch..." Jane shook her head. "Are you sure he’s four years old?"
"He’s four years old."
"Then, did you perhaps conduct experiments on him to make him so smart?" Jane asked with suspicious eyes and thanks to her words, Steve’s heart felt even more relaxed. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
"Let’s just focus on what’s on ground." Steve said.
"Ah, you didn’t deny it. You’re trying to change the topic, aren’t you?" She turned to Paige. "It seems this guy ran a few experiments on your son. You should get the truth out of him."
"If he did, I’d be thankful. Because it’s thanks to that smartness that we’ll be able to find the kids without much issue." She said, and Jane went silent. Yeah, it was something to be thankful for.
The anxiety was gradually lifting and she was glad. If they acted with that anxiety in their hearts, they could make a mistake.
Raymond’s phone rang and they all went silent. He answered it with a cold tone,
"Hello?"
"So, have you made your choice? Who will you save?"
