Chapter 262: Upsetting the guests

Raymond anxiously paced to and fro the hall. He prohibited anyone from leaving since everyone was a suspect but he could not keep them restricted for too long since they were also big figures and he would be damaging their business relationship with this act, a great deal.

Alexa’s wheelchair was found, Romeo and Rachel were nowhere to be found and then there was that note left by the kidnappers.

"I have to find her." He kept mumbling but Steve kept him from leaving and finally got him to sit down.

In a situation like this, it was better to think rationally so as not to provoke whoever was behind it, but it was almost impossible for Raymond, who was experiencing such a thing for the second time. The last did not end well and this time too...

He clenched his fists.

"Sir," the guards approached.

"Did you find it?" Steve asked and they presented the broken wristwatches to them.

Seeing this, Raymond almost crumbled. They took off the tracking device. How were they going to find them now?

Their only clue was to locate Alexa’s necklace but who was to say that they didn’t get rid of that as well? And then there was the fact that the note left said they would separate the hostages.

"Please Lord, what did I do to deserve this?" Raymond squeezed his fists together, pressing them against his forehead. "Why should I pass through this again? Why?"

Steve, who was quite calm, though worried, examined the wristwatches and recognized Romeo’s watch. He felt strange painful emotions inside. He knew his son was still alive yet he couldn’t stop his heart from hurting.

The watch was shattered but then he noticed that a crucial part was missing and he sharply turned to the guards

"Is this everything?" He asked. "Did you pick up every single piece?"

"Yes, sir. We picked up every piece." They said, and a very relief coursed through him. He placed his hand on Raymond’s shoulder and whispered to his hearing alone,

"I don’t know if it is what I think it is but I believe we have a lead." 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

Raymond looked up, wondering what sort of lead he was referring to.

Then, Jane and the others rushed in. They saw the guests seated with their mouths running from their dissatisfaction and how insulted they felt.

They were in the dark as to why they could not leave and that was why they felt even more bitter.

"Did something go missing? Is Raymond Stein really going to treat us as thieves?"

"I admit that he’s got the brains of a businessman but this is too much. Wait till I call my lawyer."

"If we all report this, I’m sure he’ll come to his senses soon. We’re not pushovers. He can’t rival all of us combined."

They were complaining bitterly but would not dare turn their gaze to Raymond whose legs continuously tapped the ground in anxiety and his hands pressed against his head.

Even with all the mouths they were making, they could not rival his cold gaze and his unapproachable aura, so they decided to bicker amongst themselves till they were released from these illegal restraints.

Jane turned her gaze to Steve who nodded, beckoning them over.

"Is there no way to know where they are? They still have their tracking wristwatches, right? We can find them through that." Jane asked and Steve shook his head and showed the broken wristwatches in his hands.

Jane saw this and covered her mouth in shock.

Paige, as soon as she saw this, felt her heart quake. This... She touched her chest. It was hard to breathe. So hard but she decided to stay strong. There would certainly be a way

Steve couldn’t afford to tell them that Romeo had the tracking chip that was in the wristwatch, at least not in front of so many people. What if the kidnapper had eyes and ears mixed in with the guests?

Paige walked up to Raymond and said,

"For now, let the guests go back. It’s not worth ruining your business relationship. We all know who’s behind this." She said, trying to rationalize with him. "If anything, having them here could even prove dangerous as there may be spies mixed with the crowds."

Raymond raised his gaze, glaring coldly at the crowd. Yes, it would do them no good if the spies got Intel. They had to prioritize Alexa and the kids’ safety above all else.

He nodded.

Paige walked up to the podium, causing them to all shift their attention to her. She picked up the microphone and announced,

"I apologize for the discomfort you’ve felt thus far but I hope you do not hold it in your heart as it has to do with your safety." She said, "There’s been a kidnapping and three lives are in danger, making our hearts unsteady."

This incited murmuring.

"A kidnapping?"

"Now that I think of it, I don’t see the little princess anymore."

"Even the lady in the wheelchair is gone too. Were they really kidnapped?"

Paige cleared her throat.

"Please know that you were kept here to avoid one more person from falling victim to this case. My son... Is one of them and by how anxious I feel, I wish no one else to feel this anxiety." She said and glanced at Raymond, pursing her lips with pain in her heart and concluded. "We’re only humans and only get to live once. So please take caution as you make your way to your respective destinations. Thank you."

She watched the crowd dispersing and clenched her fists. They might have been letting one of the culprits go, but it was better this way.

She slowly got down from the podium and staggered but Maxwell caught her. Her eyes gradually grew teary and she hugged him, letting the tears fall.

This wasn’t the time to cry but she could help her heart. This... What would she do if something happened to her son? What would she do if she lost him?

Maxwell was stunned. Too stunned that his hands refused to move. Paige was... Crying?

She was crying so bitterly that it felt like it was his own tears she had in her eyes.

And gradually, he recalled the memories of his mother who cried and wailed every night because of the demise of her children. This... This wouldn’t happen to Paige, right? These tears... He did not want to see them. He never wanted to see them and that was why he refused to have children.

Yet, even with his resolve, this was happening. Why?

His hands trembled but he clenched them, resolving himself and patting her head with his eyes growing dark.

"I’ll find him." He said, and Paige raised her head to see the dangerous look in Maxwell’s eyes. "I’ll find your son so please, no more tears."

Jane watched this and felt pain in her heart as well.

Through the hall that was now silent thanks to the exit of the guests, a running sound echoed. It was a phone.
