I Am An Illegitimate Child With A Legitimate Reason For Revenge-Chapter 248: Do I need to make friends?
"Welcome to my room." Rachael announced as she opened her door wide.
They went in and saw the spectacular room she wanted them to see. Honestly, this was the first time Alexa was entering the room after its renovation. It was painted pink and blue and above Rachael’s bed headboard was a spelling of her name with diamond stones.
Alexa’s eyes widened and she turned her head to look at Raymond who confidently smiled. His daughter’s room could never be lacking.
There was even a part of the room that was filled with fluffy animals. Plushies of all sizes. And then there was a pink car, Rachael’s size.
But even when her room was like this, Rachael would prefer sleeping in Raymond’s room. Well, she had stayed with her mother and slept in the same bed since she was born so she thought it was only fair to sleep in the same bed with him as well.
"Wow, your room is like a princess paradise." Alexa said to her daughter and she laughed.
"Of course. Daddy made sure to make it like this. He said I can’t slack, especially when showing off." She said with her head pridefully in the air.
"He did, huh?" Alexa trailed her eyes to Raymond again but this time, he made sure to avert his eyes knowing he was guilty of some sort.
"Come, I’ll show you Romeo’s room. It’s just like mine." She said and ran ahead, giving them no room to object and Raymond pushed Rachael’s wheelchair to the next room.
Rachael opened the room and exposed the green-themed room, filled with all sorts of action figures and race cars. He even had a car of his own in the corner. Above his headboard was his Anne written boldly with black crystals.
"This is nice." Alexa said, "Did you do this for him as well?"
"No, this was done before you two came and it was done by Paige." He explained as they started leaving the room. "But it was the inspo I needed to design Rachael’s room."
"Oh." She exclaimed. She always forgets that Paige is Romeo’s mother.
It was crazy how she always likened Romeo to Raymond. They looked alike but he was Steve’s son. She had to get that to her head straight.
"So," Rachael sat on her bed and started swinging her legs. "What do I owe this humble visit?"
"We are here to talk about your birthday." Alexa said and Rachael stopped swinging her legs.
"Oh. That’s next week, isn’t it?" She asked and Alexa nodded.
"And we were wondering if it would be great to throw a party for you." Alexa finally brought it up, squeezing her hands together. "Would you like us to throw you a party? You could make lots of friends and play with more of your age mates."
Rachael suddenly went silent and threw her face to the side, as if thinking. And one would wonder, what would a soon to be five-year-old girl think so deeply about? It was just a birthday party.
"Or not?" Alexa asked. She felt anxious for some reason. Rachael was starting to look the same way she did when she was asked if she would like to make friends with her classmates. And then, she would turn to her, smile brightly like it was okay, and say yes.
That was all a lie. If she did this now, that meant she didn’t want the party. She...
"Mummy." Rachael called and returned her gaze to them. "Do I need to make friends?"
Alexa suddenly flinched. The look in Rachael’s eyes right now, made her heart hurt. She gripped the hand of her wheelchair.
"Why do you say that?" She asked.
"You know, if it was before, if there was no one calling me a bastard or an unwanted child, I might’ve thought of actually wanting friends to play with, to talk to a lot and to laugh with. At that time, I could say my friends were extremely genuine but they did. They bullied me, they called me names and I’m still scared of that." She explained and rubbed her cheek with her thumb.
Raymond furrowed his eyebrows in anger.
Who would dare do this to his kid?
Alexa felt shattered hearing her daughter explain such a painful experience with that look on her face. She was the one who wasn’t attentive enough to know that her daughter was going through so much at school. If she had been a little more attentive, none of that would’ve happened and she could’ve prevented such awful memories.
"Well, now I have my daddy so no one will call me a bastard." Rachael added and both raised their heads to look into her eyes. "But my daddy isn’t an ordinary person either." She started swinging her legs again. "They won’t call me a bastard now but their intentions will no longer be genuine. They won’t be friends with me because they like me or want to laugh with me, they will want to be friends because my daddy is someone their parents want to get affiliated with."
She raised her head and finally smiled.
"So, I don’t see a reason to make friends like that." She said, "Having Romeo as my friend is already enough for me."
Her valid reasons were enough not to throw her a birthday party.
"I understand." Raymond said with a mixed expression. He felt he was just about to do something that he would regret.
"Wait," Rachael said. "I didn’t say I wouldn’t like to have a birthday party."
"Huh?" They looked at he confused but she laughed and said,
"I said I didn’t want to make friends but I didn’t say I don’t want you to throw the party. Parties are fun so I’d like to eat a lot of cake with Romeo. It would be fun." She explained and thought they were conflicted after hearing her reasons for not wanting to make friends.
"Sometimes, I feel like you’re too smart." Alexa remarked, stroking her daughter’s hair and Rachael grabbed her mother’s hand, sinking her face into her palm.
"What can I say? I take a lot from my parents." She grinned. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
Raymond sighed and said, "Can’t argue with that."
Alexa laughed. They were so natural with this now that no one would doubt their father-and-daughter relationship. She just hoped they would be happy like this but then wondered what would happen if Raymond suggested he wanted to adopt her daughter. Would he want to marry her as well?
She shook her head. That was nonsense. He was already married to the love of his life, even if she was dead, so he wouldn’t want to marry a second time. So she thought.
