I Am An Illegitimate Child With A Legitimate Reason For Revenge-Chapter 188: Paige’s backstory with Maxwell 2
Paige silently shook her head.
"No." She said and looked up at him. "What’s all the fuss?"
Skylar looked from left to right before taking the hand of his sister.
"Come with me for a moment." He said and gently led her out of there.
At a corner, where he was sure no one was watching, he said,
"I’ve noticed that those bastards pestering you just to be on your good side, suddenly stopped doing that. Do you know why?"
"Maybe they found something better to do with their life." She nonchalantly said.
"That’s what I thought and I was glad but then I noticed that every last one of them was having one issue or the other. If it wasn’t a family problem then it had to do with their school performance." He said and Paige was starting to get his point when he asked, "Do you remember Levy?"
Paige frowned and she folded her arms. Levy was a guy who tried to molest her in the girls washroom a few weeks ago. Though he was almost expelled, he hasn’t shown gsi face for a long time.
A lot of people thought he might’ve been hiding because of the embarrassment.
"What about him?" Paige asked.
"Do you know what happened to him?" Skylar asked but she shook her head. How was she supposed to know?
"Stop this." She said to him, "If you have a point to make, get to it already. It’s almost time for class."
"He has been in the hospital since that incident." Skylar said. "Both his hands were broken and he’s lost his manhood as well."
Paige was surprised but she couldn’t be bothered. Evil people deserve to suffer.
"And not only that, his family is having issues with their business as well." Skylar added but Paige shook her head.
"How does this concern me, Skylar?" She asked him.
"Because each and every one of these people who are having issues, hospitalized and dropped out, they are all related to you in one way or the other and the person behind all this is Maxwell."
Skylar suddenly flinched, feeling goosebumps all over her body. Still, it didn’t have anything to do with her. She didn’t send anyone to do anything so whatever happened to them, whether it was because of her or a coincidence, she didn’t care.
"Leave it alone, Skylar." She said, "This Maxwell guy, it seems like he’s actually protecting me so why should I be bothered?"
"But..."
"Skylar." She called his name. "Return to your class. This topic is irrelevant."
The discussion ended there and Paige went to her class. She didn’t say it but she had her suspicions on who this Maxwell person was but she couldn’t be too sure.
The day went by fast and at the end of the day, a rumor started circulating that Paige was using her family’s connection to get rid of anyone who crossed her.
Sure, it was very believable and everyone started looking at her with their side eyes.
Paige wasn’t bothered about these rumors but there was one person that was bothered.
One day, after telling the guards not to follow her, Paige took a short stroll, and she came across an alley.
As if directed to that area with her phone, she went in and there, she heard someone weeping.
It was a girl and she happened to know who it was.
She got closer and heard voices.
"Tell me, why did you spread that rumor?" She heard a familiar male voice ask and pursed her lips. She looked closer and found a guy wearing an helmet interrogating the weeping girl. So, it was him after all "Was it fun painting someone’s reputation black?"
The weeping girl shook her head violently and kept apologizing.
"You didn’t come up with the idea on your own, so tell me, who sent you to do it?" He asked and Paige walked out from the shadows.
"It was me." She answered and they both turned to look at her.
As soon as he saw her, his eyes widened.
"I sent her to spread that rumor and it was all so I can lure out my dedicated ’helper’." She said and folded her arms. "So, to what do I owe your undying loyalty, Maxwell?"
Maxwell’s eyes widened. So he had been caught after all. He took off his helmet and smiled brightly, like it was all nothing but a joke.
"It’s the desire of such a beautiful lady so of course I would do anything to fulfill it." He said and glared down at the weeping girl with eyes that could kill. "No matter the length I have to go to."
Paige looked at him as he glared at the girl on the floor. He was so different from the guy who smiled so cheerfully the other day and complimented her eyes.
But then, that glare changed and he smiled genuinely at her.
"So I guess you were just a force used to bring us together." He said and stretched his hand to help her. "You’re innocent after all so you can go."
The weeping girl looked over at Paige and she nodded, giving her the go ahead to flee.
Once she was gone, they were both left alone in that alley.
Paige tried to analyze the situation. Just now, he was glaring so murderously at the girl but after finding out she was innocent, he smiled at her. A genuine smile.
Did that mean he was only like that to people he saw as a threat?
She took steps towards him and stood in front of him. There was something about his smile that spelt deception but she couldn’t pinpoint what it was about.
"Why did you do it?" Paige asked him.
"Do what?"
"Why did you do that to all those people? I heard everything so you can’t deny it." Paige explained and Maxwell tilted his head.
"I wasn’t denying anything and it’s not like what I did was a secret either." He said and got close to her, whispering to her ear, "I just wanted to know the preciseness of your question? If it was about the people I did something to or that morning when we met?"
He moved away and smiled.
"In any case, I was simply fulfilling your desire to not be disturbed. So how was it? Did you not enjoy the time alone from all the nuisance?"
"I did." She honestly answered. "But why go so far? You don’t even know me that well."
"Let’s just say, I was trying to fulfill a promise." He said.
"What promise?" She asked and he touched her forehead.
"You have to remember that on your own." He said and put on his helmet. "Later."
He left her with a dumbfounded expression and before she knew it, he was gone.
