Chapter 189: A glamourous event

It was all about helmets and bikes with Maxwell so seeing him like this reminded Paige of the good old days.

She walked towards him and he smiled at her. The reason she called him was because he was good at tracking people down.

You could say he became a business man out of duty for his family and as the only child. And because he couldn’t continue being rebellious all his life, he used that bit of his sinister nature to crush whoever he didn’t like in his business.

"There you are." Maxwell said and hugged her. "So, what can I do for you?"

Paige left his embrace and pointed at the screen.

"Something is confusing me with this case. The guys driving the car and the guy on the bike are nowhere to be seen." She said and turned to him. "I know you know this city like the back of your palm so as a biker, when running away from someone?"

Maxwell looked towards the screens. This place was close to a road that led to a harbor.

If he wanted to hide from prying eyes, there was this alley he’d take. The alley had a two way direction. One way had cameras while the other had just street lights.

When being chased, if it was during the day, you could take the path that had no cameras and come out in a construction harbor.

"How long has it been?" He asked, going towards the screens.

"About five to six hours." Paige answered and he made a few points on the screen. Truly, there was a construction harbor nearby.

Though it was a construction harbor, people still transported from there to another country.

Maxwell shook his head and said,

"Do you suspect these guys are together?" he asked and Paige nodded. "Then it’s likely that they’re long gone. Out of the country through this harbor."

He pointed at the screen where the harbor was located and Paige clenched her fists.

"But it’s also possible that they’re using the harbor as their hideout." He said and turned to her. "It seems someone just wants to distract your attention." his lips curled up in a grin. "But don’t worry, wifey, I got this."

Paige closed her eyes and nodded. She looked at Maxwell. He was always someone who did whatever he felt like doing and she... she was the type who had no problem with anyone who brought her benefits.

Anyone who allied themselves with her and brought her benefit, as well as peace of mind, she has no problem keeping them close.

And that was why she was never opposed to Maxwell helping her behind the scenes, even after their confrontation in the alley.

But one thing she couldn’t understand was the promise he was talking about. Such a promise, she couldn’t remember ever making it but for him to seriously abide by it, it could only mean it was real.

"I’ll track them down." Maxwell said, putting his serious face on. "Don’t worry about it."

She nodded her head and started heading for the door.

"I’m counting on you. I’ll go back and see if Romeo is doing okay. It’s been a pretty long day."

Maxwell watched her leave and then faced the screen. He asked the officer sitting behind the screen to move over a bit while he checked out various routes they might’ve taken.

This was something his dear wifey needed so he would make sure to do the best of his abilities.

Paige got back to the facility and found Raymond sitting in Rachael’s room with his head down. It was clear he hadn’t moved from that spot for a while now.

She didn’t want to go in and report that she was yet to catch the culprits so she went to see Alexa. She was under artificial respiration and didn’t look like she would wake up any time soon.

She sighed.

Just when things were supposed to start looking good for this family, something always had to happen to send it all south.

Steve approached her and said,

"Did you find them?" He asked and she shook her head.

"No, but Maxwell is on it. I believe we’ll find them soon." She confidently said and he nodded.

"Well, all we have to do now is wait. Waiting... it’s all we ever do, isn’t it?" He made that simple remark and walked away.

Paige watched him as he left and sighed.

Waiting... That was all they could do when there was nothing either of them could do.

Come to think of it, there was a huge event coming up. Ultio’s fifth anniversary in a week’s time.

Ultio was now the general name of Raymond Stein’s business empire.

He was able to combine the Steins, Winston, his personal company and the uprising Ultio to make this massive empire.

No one could come close to his wealth and influence. He was literally the richest man in the country and far past a lot of other smaller countries’ wealth but he was someone who had lost the ambition to brag.

He accumulated all this just so he could get back at the people who took away the one he valued more than anything in the world. He did all that to her revenge for not only himself but Ariel as well.

And when all that was done, he went on living for the sake of his guilt and sins that were yet to be forgiven by Ariel’s ghost.

This event happened every year and though the CEO and all the representatives were the ones in charge of the preparations and invitations, Raymond would still need to play his part as Chairman and make his appearance but...

But with the way things were going now, it didn’t look like he would make an appearance.

Paige massaged her eyebrows and went to look for Romeo. A glamorous event... It meant nothing to Raymond now.

A glamorous event, she had gone to many of that in the past but the one she would never forget was that particular event at her school.

Events like that were held to make connections with one another but she found it boring because at the end the only people approaching her were annoying people.

After their first meeting at the bench, she met Maxwell again to confront him two months later, which was the next semester and after that, the next time she met him was at that event.

That was a year later. She just didn’t bother herself with him any longer and let him do whatever he wanted till then.

The school held a grand party for all students. You could say it was ’prom’ in the university and since everyone admitted, aside from the ones who were on welfare programs, were all from prominent families, it was done in their favor.
