I Am An Illegitimate Child With A Legitimate Reason For Revenge-Chapter 187: Paige’s backstory with Maxwell
Paige rewatched the clip, focusing on the blonde lady and the mysterious man. It seemed she was really trying to get away from him. Who was he after all? Was he a kidnapper?
She watched as the kids tried to attract everyone’s attention to the suspicious man and then after that, the bike incident.
"Stop there." She said and tried to see if she could get the plate number but unfortunately, there was no plate number on any of the vehicles.
The biker was wearing a black helmet, hiding his face and the car had tinted windows, stopping anyone outside from seeing the inside.
All this was done with great precision and once again, she found herself questioning,
Was it a coincidence?
The doors opened and one of the officers announced that there was a person who wanted to meet Paige.
"Is it Maxwell?" She asked and he walked in, a step at a time before taking off his helmet and swiping his hair back.
Paige watched as he did this and couldn’t help but reminisce on their first meeting. It was back then when they were still both students at a famous University.
Back then, Paige did not take dating seriously and Maxwell didn’t approach either but amongst the numerous boys who tried to get her number, he was the first to say words that actually made her blush.
Maxwell approached her one day while she was seated on a bench, receiving the fresh air from the early morning summer breeze.
It was early dawn and the sun was yet to come out. She had actually planned to see the sunset while waiting for Skylar when he rode his bike and stopped in front of her.
Even through his dark helmet, she could tell he was looking intently at her. He took off his helmet and she presumed he was one of those guys who wanted to woo her so she looked away but she couldn’t deny that she found his helmet take off kinda cool.
Maxwell got down from his bike and swiped his hair back while approaching her and smiled so brightly that she almost asked what he was smiling so happily at.
"Hey there." He greeted and sat next to her. "Can you tell me what the time is? I didn’t come out with my phone."
Paige reluctantly roasted her hand and checked her wristwatch.
"It’s 5:43." She answered and he nodded,
"Guess there’s still some time before the sun sets." He said.
They both stayed silent for a while, staring at the dark horizon that would soon illuminate the bright morning sun.
"Tell me," he began and looked toward her. "What is it you desire?"
Paige looked at him and then looked away. What was the purpose of that question? Nevertheless, she answered,
"I desire to not be disturbed by anyone whatsoever." She said and lowered her head. What was she saying to a stranger?
"Hm, figures. With your looks, you probably attract a lot of unwanted flies." He said and turned to the horizon. "Then you would really appreciate it if you got rid of as much nuisance as possible, right?" He asked her and without thinking, she nodded.
She didn’t know his purpose for asking her that question but she wasn’t expecting anything from him anyway so she didn’t care about her answers. But one thing was for sure, she was genuine when she said she didn’t want to be disturbed.
"What does the time say now?"
Paige looked at him for a second before checking her watch.
"6:00!" She answered and he sighed, getting up to his feet.
"It’s taking longer than I thought. Well, I can’t stay any longer so I’ll have to go. I hope you get to see the sun rise with your own eyes." He said.
"Why ... Why do you say that? Did you want to see the sun rise that much?" She calmly asked him.
"Of course. I came all the way here for that, didn’t I?" He said and Paige pushed herself to ask,
"Why?"
"It’s because," he got on the bike and smiled brightly like he did just a moment ago, "...when the sun rises, and it illuminates in your eyes, they shine like black crystals. They look so radiant that it could almost be compared to the dark starry sky." She smiled a bit sadly and added, "I wanted to see them one more time. Your eyes... They are very pretty." He put on his helmet and rode away before Paige could ask anything.
Paige sat there, staring blankly at the sky when her face flushed. The rising sun illuminated in her eyes and like Maxwell said, they were pretty much like black crystals.
She wanted to ask if they had met before for him to say he wanted to see her eyes shine like black crystals again but he left before she could even realize it.
"Thank you." She muttered, having received a very honest and sweet compliment from someone she didn’t even know.
After that day, she wore sunglasses frequently and though people thought it was just a new trend she was trying to pick up, she didn’t care. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
She never saw Maxwell after that day and she also noticed that her wooers reduced significantly.
They didn’t pester her like they did in the past and even the jealous ladies who wanted to try underhanded methods to deal with her, because they couldn’t afford to offend her when she had her family backing her and a load of bodyguards, always surrounding her, were taken care of.
Paige did not think too much about it. She felt maybe they had finally found a meaningful purpose with their free time and left her alone until one day,
"Paige!" Skylar called out a little too loud that everyone had to turn their attention to them.
Paige, with her eyes closed, slammed her hard book on her desk, forcing everyone to mind their business.
"Why do you like doing these things?" Paige asked, checking her book to make sure it was okay.
"Do you know a guy named Maxwell?"
