Chapter 186: Something’s not right

"How did this happen?" Raymond wondered out loud and Paige closed the door.

She walked towards him and he turned to face her.

Paige saw clearly the expression of fear and confusion on his face. She took in a deep breath and answered,

"It was a car chasing a bike." She said, not ready to tell the full story till Raymond calmed down.

Plus, she was scared that if she told him what happened, he would never feel secure about letting Rachael go out. She may have to be caged in the house for her own ’safety’.

"I was getting ice cream and there was a bike speeding over to us. I didn’t notice it but Rachael did. She luckily got out of the bike’s way but sprained her ankle and fell. After that, there was the car chasing the bike."

Raymond’s eyebrows furrowed as he anticipated the rest of the story.

"It was too late for me to get to her but luckily, there was someone else. She saved Rachael but Rachael fainted due to shock while she sustained a serious head injury but she’s fine now."

They both went silent. Raymond had his eyes down as he thought of the worse case scenario while Paige waited for his response.

"She’s fine, right?" Raymond asked and Paige nodded.

"She just has a few scratches but other than that, she’s fine." She said and Raymond turned back to stare at Rachael. He stroked her head and nodded.

"That’s all that matters."

Paige was surprised that he took the news well. Really, there was nothing to fuss about from the beginning but... he was taking it too easy and it made her a bit suspicious.

"Did you catch them?" Raymond asked.

"What?"

"Did you catch the ones responsible for giving my daughter these scratches?" He asked, his voice sounding extremely cold and serious.

Paige pursed her lips. She knew it was too true for him to take this case too easy.

"I haven’t yet. I was too worried trying to get Rachael to the hospital."

"Paige, I respect you but I don’t think I’ll keep quiet if you let the people who hurt my daughter off so easily." Raymond said. His words said a lot and Paige smirked.

"I understand." She turned around. "I’ll make sure to make more scratches on the ones who caused this so rest easy."

She left and Raymond bowed his head. He kissed Rachael’s hand and pressed it on his forehead. What would he do without the light that has entered his life after he had stayed in the dark for so long?

Paige, along with a bunch of guards, went into the city, checked all the CCTV cameras and chased down the ones who had been involved in the car accident.

It was difficult to track them down and Paige got the feeling that they knew they were being chased.

As if they knew from the beginning that someone would come after them. Both the biker and the people who were in the car all went into hiding.

This was a job that wouldn’t take more than a few hours since it was an ’unintentional’ accident but it was taking too long.

The whole day went by but there were no traces of them.

If it was just the biker, she would understand because they were being chased by the people in the car but then, would the people in the car hide as well?

Did the situation reverse or did they have someone else chasing after them?

Perhaps that someone was her. They knew that she was chasing them.

"Something’s not right." Paige exclaimed with furrowed eyebrows.

For them to hide so well, it was beyond suspicious. Why would they hide to begin with? It was almost as if someone told them to hide, as if they knew the outcome of their actions.

She wanted to point it all as a coincidence but it was just too much to bypass.

She took out her phone and called her husband, Maxwell.

Maxwell was sitting in the living room with his laptop on his lap. He had given up all pursuit of business and decided to be a very supportive husband since Paige pretty much wanted to keep working.

Instead of going to the office, he was using his vast knowledge in a different area and became a writer.

He was done physically fighting over high positions. He thought it was best to just give up on any business related work and just do something simple while supporting his wife from home.

He got a call from Paige and smiled. He answered the call, delighted to hear his wife’s voice, only to hear her words and his face turned serious.

"I got it." He said and cut the call.

He looked at his laptop and saved his writing before shutting it.

He got up from the chair, went straight to his room and emerged wearing all black.

Black jacket, black leather pants and a hand glove which he made sure to adjust properly before picking up one of the keys from the key shelf.

At the garage, he got on his bike and made his way to where his wife was. Though he decided to mellow down and be a caring, supportive and loving husband, he never gave up this side of him. You could say he was being supportive by helping his wife with this search.

Paige waited with her eyes on the screen. She sent her current location to Maxwell while still trying to figure out what was actually going on.

It was already night time but she hadn’t gotten any call that anyone was awake. She got really anxious and bit get nails. But if she was feeling this much anxiety then she could only imagine how Raymond was feeling.

That suspicious man, he was the cause of all this.

Then, an idea hit her. She went closer to the screen and asked the officers,

"Can I get a full screen play of the playground from around 2 o’clock?" She asked. "All angles, please."

They pressed a few keys on the keyboard and the screen showed the playground. She looked for where the kids were and pointed.

"There. Zoom in for me." They did and then she saw the both of them staring in one specific direction. She was standing in the opposite direction so who were they staring at? "I need a view of what they’re looking at." She requested and they switched the screen.

Over at the next screen, there was the blonde lady who saved Rachael, trying to hide away from that suspicious man and she furrowed her eyebrows.

What was that?
