I Am An Illegitimate Child With A Legitimate Reason For Revenge-Chapter 181: A lot to eat indeed
After that day, Raymond took Rachael to his workplace on a daily basis. She didn’t complain but her worry for her mummy started showing out more clearly.
Sometimes she would stand in a daze and her eyes would become teary while other times, she would look up from what she was doing and ask,
"When will mummy get better?"
Raymond saw the pain in this little girl’s eyes and it painted him as well. There was nothing he could do.
Steve advised that they go through with the surgery because no one knew when Alexa would come around and if they delayed any further, the damage could become unrepairable.
Raymond was hesitant. He wanted to get Alexa’s consent. Like hell, he was just using that to cover up his selfish desire to talk to her before the surgery.
He too was scared. He was scared that after the surgery, Alexa just might give up. He was scared that he would never get to talk to her again.
"Daddy." Rachael called, hiding the drawing she had drawn behind her back.
Raymond looked down at her and she said,
"I wanted to keep this for when mummy gets better but then..." she brought it from her back and showed it to him. "...you’ve been so sad these days. And I want you to look at this and feel happy again."
Raymond looked at the drawing Rachael was showing and his eyes grew teary. She stretched it out to him, he collected it and pursed his lips. Where to get such a consoling daughter?
He went on one knee and hugged her. The tears in his eyes really wanted to fall but he held them in like the man he was.
"Thank you, Rachael." He said. "Thank you for this. Don’t worry, it’ll be fine soon. Everything will be fine."
Rachael hugged him back and as if taking in the built in pain he had, she cried in his place.
"I’m sorry that I’m not the superman you imagined but I will do everything I can to make things right." Raymond assured.
In his hand was the matchstick drawing of a family of three. Raymond at the right with a red cape, Alexa at the left wearing a white gown and Rachael at their middle wearing a pink gown.
It wasn’t a clear drawing but from any perspective, you could see the happy family Rachael was trying to portray.
The next day, Raymond went to Steve and asked him to carry on with the surgery. The best thing was to save Alexa’s life before things got complicated.
Steve agreed and gave Raymond the necessary forms to sign before commencing the surgery.
Raymond didn’t tell Rachael but he did tell her that her mother would be going through more treatment so she could get better soon.
"I’m taking the kids out." Paige suddenly said while Raymond, Romeo and Raymond were having breakfast.
Raymond looked up at her and then at the kids. He didn’t see that one coming but he wasn’t against it either. It was the weekend and he was planning to leave Rachael to play with Romeo while he waited for Alexa’s surgery.
Seems like Paige heard about it and wanted to do him a favor.
He nodded and turned to Rachael.
"Would you like to go out with your aunty and Romeo while I take care of some stuff?" He asked her. She looked at Paige and then Romeo before turning back to him with a smile. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
"Yes, daddy." She nodded and then asked Paige, "Aunty, would you like to join us for breakfast?"
"Wow, how considerate of you." Paige said, smiling delightfully and then glanced over at Raymond with a blank stare. "Unlike someone."
"Don’t take it to heart." Rachael suddenly said. "Daddy’s mind tends to wander these days because he’s worried about my mummy. If not, he would’ve gladly invited you to join us. Right, daddy?"
Paige looked at Raymond with a look that said ’really’ while waiting for him to respond.
"Ahem." Raymond cleared his throat. "There’s a lot to eat so do join us." He said and Paige suddenly started laughing.
"A lot to eat indeed." She chuckled. "But no need, I already ate before coming. Shouldn’t you be somewhere by now? I’ll take care of the kids."
Raymond checked his watch and sighed. He put down his cutlery and stood up. He kissed Rachael’s head, gave her a nice smile and left.
Rachael watched him leave and once she was gone, dropped her own cutlery.
A week had gone by and her mummy hadn’t woken up yet. She felt so much like crying but she wanted to be strong and that’s why she refused to go into the ward to see her, not once.
If she went in and saw her mummy, even for a second, she was sure she would burst out in tears and she didn’t want that.
"Should we go now?" She asked and Romeo got down from his chair as well.
"Mummy, where are we going?" He asked.
"You tell me, where do you want to go?"
"Let’s go to a playground." Rachael said and Romeo nodded.
"Yes, let’s just go to a playground."
Paige was silent. She didn’t expect them to choose a simple playground. She had already made plans to take them to a lavish kiddies world but they wanted to go to a playground. Well, it was alright.
"Alright." She said, "But first, how about we see a movie? There’s this amazing cartoon that came out last week. Don’t you want to see it?"
The kids looked at each other before nodding their heads.
Raymond got to the facility and there, found Steve waiting for him. He has just finished checking all of Alexa’s vitals to make sure they could go on with the surgery.
"Shall we begin?" He asked and Raymond nodded.
He watched as they rolled Alexa out of the ward and towards the theater. Once they were in, the lights above the door went red and he closed his eyes. It had begun.
He sat down and covered his face, hoping for the best out of this.
"Please, be okay."
