I Am An Illegitimate Child With A Legitimate Reason For Revenge-Chapter 182: Wait, Skylar, you proposed?
Paige took Rachael and Romeo to the movies. It was a movie for kids and she knew the entire place would be filled with loud kids, making it difficult for Rachael and Romeo to watch the movie so she bought every single ticket.
She watched them get engrossed in the movie. Though it was a cartoon, she felt they wouldn’t understand every single thing of it but surprisingly, after the movie, Rachael asked,
"Did the raccoon cry because its nuts fell into the river or did it cry because the bridge broke?"
Paige was silent. That was indeed something to wonder about.
In the cartoon, a raccoon built a bridge, leading to the other side of the river. A lot of raccoons helped and when it was done, it stored nuts in the branches of the bridge.
But then, a strong storm came and the bridge broke, washing down the waterfall, along with the stored nuts.
Now the question was why did the raccoon cry? It was such a bad ending for a kids cartoon.
Paige thought about it and smiled at her.
"Well, if you know what the raccoon was thinking about while it cried, you’ll know the answer."
"So if it was thinking about the upcoming winter and lack of food, that meant it was crying for the nuts, right?" Romeo asked and she nodded.
"And if it was thinking about the effort every other raccoon put into building the bridge, he was crying because of the bridge and the raccoons? How were they going to build another before the winter and how were they going to cross the river before then? He really had a lot to cry about."
Paige was silent. That was more into debt but it was true. She was such a smart girl.
"That’s a very good analysis, Rachael. You too Romeo, you’re very smart." She patted their heads. "Now, let’s go to the playground you two wanted to go to."
They went to the car and got in. At the playground, Paige bought them I’ve cream cones and watched them sit silently on a bench.
"They wanted to come to the playground but they aren’t really playing." Paige said to herself, a bit worriedly.
She checked the time. It was already four hours since they left the mansion. Was the surgery still underway?
She was worried.
After finding out that Alexa was actually Ariel, she had been so overjoyed that she wanted to go to Alexa and tell her everything but then she heard she was unconscious.
It was something she never imagined to happen. So many bad things seemed to befall these two and their love life. It was like the universe didn’t want them together.
’Against all odds, they will get together again.’ she thought but got impatient. She decided to call Raymond to know how things were going.
She looked at the two. They were done with their ice cream cones.
"Do you want to play on the monkey bars?" Romeo asked and Rachael raised her head.
"Monkey bars?" She asked, having no clue what that was.
"You don’t know what a monkey bar is?" Romeo asked and she shook her head.
Romeo got down from the bench.
"Come on, I’ll show you what it looks like." He said and grabbed her hand. They both went to the monkey bars and Paige signaled the two guards standing in the distance to keep a close watch on them while she made her call.
Paige dialed Raymond’s number. It took a while but he eventually picked up.
"How is it?" Paige asked and Raymond massaged his eyebrows.
"Nothing yet." He said which worried Paige. "He’s still in there." He added, referring to Steve.
"Don’t worry too much. You know how good Steve is. He will try his very best to make sure she makes it out of there."
"I know. I know that but..." he squeezed his eyes shut.
"You can’t help but keep worrying, I get it." Paige completed. "And all I can tell you is to have faith in them... both."
Raymond sighed and nodded.
"I guess that’s all I can do now."
Paige started getting another call so she said,
"Let’s end the call, I’ve got a call coming in." She said and Raymond ended the call from his end.
Paige saw the incoming caller to be Skylar and she answered. She made sure to glance at the kids who were doing fine before paying attention to her call.
"She said yes." Skylar suddenly said, putting Paige off from whatever trial he had her on.
"Who said yes and yes to what?"
"Brendah. She said yes and agreed to marry me." He announced and from the sound of it, he was extremely excited.
"Wait, Skylar, you proposed?" She asked, shocked and Skylar went silent. Did he forget to tell her his plans? No, he was sure he told her about it.
"Didn’t I tell you I was taking Brenda to Maldives?"
"Yeah, to the resort. You never told me you were planning a grand proposal of any sort."
"I didn’t?"
"No, you didn’t." Paige said and pressed her thumb on her forehead. "Well, it’s done and gone. How was it? What did you do that she agreed to marry you? I thought you guys weren’t working."
"Well, we had our issues so that’s why I decided to go on a vacation."
"And throw your work at me. Bravo." She said and rolled her eyes.
"Aren’t you happy it worked out?"
"I am but I’m equally wondering how I would’ve strangled you if she refused your proposal. All my hard work would’ve been in vain." She said and laughed. "I’m happy for you. You’re finally going to settle down, you wannabe playboy."
"Hey, I’m no wannabe playboy."
"Right now you’re not. But you were doing it in the past, speed dating and all. You’re over thirty so it’s a good thing to finally settle down."
"It wasn’t entirely my fault. I was just waiting for ’the one’."
"And ’the one’ has found her way to you." She said and smiled. "Congratulations. And tell Brenda she has some explaining to do."
"Hey, don’t chase my wife before we say our vows." He cracked up and she laughed as well.
"By the way, something’s going on over here that you should know." She said, rubbing the back of her neck.
"What? Did Raymond do something?" Skylar straight up asked and Paige pursed her lips.
"I can’t speak over the phone so maybe you should come over and then we’ll talk." She said and glanced over at where the kids were playing but surprisingly, she didn’t see them.
She turned, alarmed. Where did they go? The guards were being crowded by other kids.
"Paige, are you there?"
"Um, Skylar, I’ll have to call you back later. Let me know when you get back to the country." She said and cut the call.
She hurried towards the monkey bars but they weren’t there. She looked at the two guards who were trying to get out of the children’s hold.
"What are you doing? Where are the kids?" She asked furiously and the two guards looked towards the swing set but they weren’t there.
As if their ghost left their body, their faces turned pale.
