I Am An Illegitimate Child With A Legitimate Reason For Revenge-Chapter 159: What portrait?
Getting up from her seat, Alexa could finally feel the muscles on her legs. She walked towards the door and opened it. Raymond went in that direction but there was no sign of him.
’People with long legs walk really fast.’ She thought and walked slowly through the halls.
The mansion was so big and at the center, just before the stairs was a portrait. A big portrait that was on its own on the wall but she couldn’t see who was in it since it was covered with a thin curtain cloth.
Curious to know who was in the portrait, she raised the curtain a bit and was just about to see what was in it when a little boy called out,
"Who are you?" Shocked at being caught, Alexa flinched. She turned around only to see a little boy with black hair, folding his arms with a frown on his face.
He looked to be the same age as Rachael but unlike Rachael, he looked grumpy.
’Is he the son of a worker here?’ She wondered and walked towards the boy. "Hello, are you lost?" She asked.
"That’s what I should be asking you." He said and stomped towards her. "Who are you and what are you doing close to that portrait? Did you lose your way? Don’t you know no one is supposed to touch that?"
Alexa was speechless. Wow, this little boy knew his way with words. He was so rude. Was he really the son of a worker?
"I didn’t know it was off limits." She said, "But you shouldn’t talk to people like that simply because you don’t know them."
"I’m not talking like this because I don’t know you. I’m talking like this because I pity you." he said and stood in front of her, not too close so that he wouldn’t stretch his neck too much while talking to her. "If the master of this house finds out you touched that portrait, you’ll be kicked out immediately."
"Why? What’s in the portrait?" Alexa asked, looking back at the portrait.
"Didn’t you hear me? If the master of this house discovers someone opened this portrait, he would immediately kick them out."
"So you don’t know?" Alexa asked once more and an irk formed on the little boy’s head. She chuckled.
Of course she knew what he was talking about but this little grumpy boy seemed so fun to tease.
"Alright, I get it." She said, "Then, do you want to find out who’s in the portrait?"
"What are you planning? My mummy already told me not to touch it so I won’t touch it. I’m a good boy." He said with his nose in the air. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
"Of course you are. Aside from your little grumpy attitude and awful manner of approach, I’d say you’re good." She said, smiling nicely.
"Thank you." He said but then realized there was something wrong with her words. "Hey."
Alexa laughed and ruffled his hair. This little boy was really so fun to tease. He was such a good boy and she wished Rachael could be friends with him.
"Anyway, I already warned you." He said and stepped closer to the portrait. "Don’t touch this portrait."
"What portrait?" Alexa asked, feigning ignorance with a smile.
"This portrait. Are you that dumb that you’ve already forgotten what we’re talking about?" He frowned. "Don’t touch this portrait."
"Oh, you mean the portrait you’re currently touching?" She asked, tilting her head to the side and he nodded.
"Exactly." He said but then realized something was off. "Wait, what?" He looked over at the portrait, only to realize he was holding on to the curtain. "No, this is..."
Alexa laughed. This boy was making her day.
The little boy gritted his teeth. He fell for this lady’s trap. She was so schemy. He had to let go of the curtain before anyone sees if not he would get in trouble with his mother.
That was his plan but just as he was letting go, the edge of the curtain got stuck to the hook of his wristwatch and followed him down.
The little boy turned around in shock as the curtain fell and revealed the portrait.
Alexa stared at the portrait in bewilderment. So that was what was in it that made Raymond cover it up. Such a beautiful portrait.
The little boy looked at the portrait in horror. He didn’t mean to open it. He... wait a minute. He looked at Alexa, confused. They were the same person.
"You... Why is your face on that portrait?" He questioned, pointing at her. "Is this a prank?"
Alexa was silent. She looked away from the little boy and returned her gaze to the portrait.
In the portrait was Ariel. She had this big smile that made it seem like she had no worries in the world. She was so beautiful.
She subconsciously reached for the portrait but just as she was about to touch it, Raymond appeared from behind and asked,
"What are you doing?"
Alexa, as well as the little boy flinched, before turning around to see him looking extremely displeased.
"Oh no, I’m in trouble." The little boy muttered.
Alexa looked down at the little boy and just knew she’d have to take the blame.
"I’m sorry, I was on my way to my room but got lost. When I got to this portrait, I suddenly lost my balance and grabbed the curtain. I’m sorry if that offends you." She fabricated her words well and Raymond looked down at the little boy.
"Then what is Romeo doing here?"
"I’m sorry, uncle, I... " he bowed his head.
’Uncle?’ Alexa’s head tried to process and just decided to talk first and think later. "This little boy found me and helped me up. He said you would be upset to see the portrait uncovered so we were trying to cover it up again but it seems impossible without a ladder. So sorry."
Romeo looked at Alexa surprised. Why did she lie for him? He was clearly the one who made the curtain fall? Well, it was thanks to her scheme but still...
Alexa smiled at him and then turned to Raymond who sighed. He looked like he believed her words but at the same time was confused.
"Edward will take you to your room." He said and approached the portrait. "I’ll have someone else cover it up so you can leave now."
"Don’t." Alexa said and he looked at her. "Don’t cover it up. It’s such a beautiful portrait. Allow it to shine, will you?"
