Chapter 158: Don’t worry, I’ll hold her

"Rachael, do you want me to kiss your mummy?" Raymond asked.

"Yes?" Rachael answered and shyly looked away. "Don’t worry, I won’t look."

"Rachael." Alexa called in surprise.

"You’re the one who said you’d do anything for your daughter." Paige muttered while looking aside.

Alexa was confused. Her mind couldn’t keep up. What was going on?

"But your mummy doesn’t want it." Raymond said and carried her up. "Come on, let’s take your mummy to the dining table to eat something."

"Yeah. She needs to eat something. Come on mummy." Rachael said and Alexa closed her eyes. Was it okay to faint again? She felt mentally exhausted.

Steve shook his head and walked out of there.

"My name is Paige, by the way." Paige finally introduced herself. "Nice to meet you, Alexa. I feel we’ll have a lot of time together, going forward." She smiled and Alexa nodded.

"Nice to meet you too."

Alexa stood to her feet with Paige’s help. They went to the dining table and sat her down.

"Mummy, you need to eat a lot." Rachael said, smiling gleefully.

Alexa stared at Rachael standing on top of Raymond’s thighs. It seemed like Rachael didn’t worry too much because she had someone to take care of her while she was unconscious.

Thinking about it, she felt ashamed. She couldn’t believe she let her daughter see such a disgraceful sight.

"Hey, you shouldn’t look down." Paige said. "Do you want your daughter to think something is wrong with you?"

Alexa looked up and closed her eyes. She was right. If she kept sulking, she would only worry Rachael.

The food arrived and to her disappointment, it was just porridge. Meat porridge. She looked up with an expression that asked, ’what is this? Where’s the food?’

"Mummy has to eat porridge to get better." Rachael sang, all the more delighted.

"Your stomach isn’t strong enough to carry heavy or greasy food." Steve said. "So you have to take in something light for now."

"Ugh." Alexa exclaimed and picked up the spoon. She was shut about to eat when she felt that all her attention was on her.

They were all looking at her while waiting for her to eat.

’Why are they watching me so intently?’ She wondered and took in a spoon full of the porridge.

It had a lot of minced meat and tasted rather good. She went ahead to take in another spoon, forgetting the discomfort she felt from their eyes.

She ate quite well and at the end, drank water. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

"Thank you for the meal." She said, finally smiling.

"Did you like it, mummy?" Rachael asked and Alexa nodded.

"Yes, Rachael. It was delicious." she rubbed Rachael’s head.

"Can I talk to you for a moment?" Raymond asked all of a sudden and she looked up.

"What’s it about?" Alexa asked and Raymond turned to Rachael.

"Rachael, can you give your mummy and me a minute alone? We have something important to talk about." He said and Rachael nodded.

Paige came forward and carried her.

"Don’t worry, I’ll hold her." she said and Alexa watched them leave, a little uncomfortable with the idea of leaving Rachael with them.

But they had been with Rachael the whole time so there was no need to worry.

"About your problem." Raymond began and she turned her attention to him. "I’ll understand if you don’t let me in on the details but it seems it’s giving you a serious headache so I want to know." He drew closer. "Do you need my help?"

Alexa was silent. He was willing to help her solve her problem, no surprise there. I mean, with how he came over to get her and Rachael with a single phone call, she wouldn’t be surprised to know that he was willing to help.

"Thank you." Alexa said and lowered her head.

This was an opportunity she was not going to let slide. Serena was too dangerous and maybe if she was in Raymond Stein’s hand then maybe she could be safe.

"I would be really grateful if you helped me. Right now, my sister... She’s dangerous and she doesn’t like Rachael much. I don’t want Rachael to get hurt because of a mistake I made so I would like it if you let me stay here... temporarily. Once I fix my mess, I’ll go back."

Raymond was silent. He tilted his head to the side and folded his arms.

"Was it because you felt so powerless that you went ahead to overdose your medication?" He asked but she shook her head.

"That’s not the only reason." She said, "I get frequent headaches. My situation was so bad that I started thinking a lot, the headache wouldn’t go away so I took more than I should’ve. It was wrong of me, I know and I’m utterly ashamed of the behavior I demonstrated in front of my daughter but please help me."

She pleaded with desperation in her eyes.

Raymond looked into her eyes and once again, he was reminded of Ariel. He closed his eyes and slowly parted his lips before saying,

"I will help you." He said and got up. "You can stay here for as long as you want." He added. "And in return, you can conduct our therapy sessions here."

Alexa nodded.

Raymond had no plans of meddling further. He took Alexa’s words as they were and if she didn’t have the mind to define her sister’s behavior then he wouldn’t ask either. But...

"How do you plan to fix your mess if you can’t stand up to your sister?" He asked and Alexa clenched her fists. "You can use my connections if that will help you."

"Thank you. I... I’ll figure it out myself." She said and Raymond walked away.

Alexa thought to herself. How exactly was she going to stand up to Serena? Maybe she should’ve accepted Raymond’s offer to help. Now she was regretting it.

Now that she was staying in Raymond Stein’s mansion, would Serena be able to get her here? She hoped not.
