Chapter 160: Can you tell me more about her?

Raymond looked away from Alexa and towards the portrait. He shut his eyes briefly and turned around.

"Forget it." He said and started walking away.

Once he was gone, Alexa gave out a little sigh and began to leave but Romeo clutched onto her dress. She stopped and looked down at him. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

"Um," he shyly looked away. "Why did you lie?"

"I’m the reason the curtain came off, aren’t I?" She asked him. "If I didn’t tease you, you wouldn’t have touched it, right?"

"R-right."

"So in the end, I’m the one who took it off so let’s leave it like that." She said and smiled.

Romeo gazed at her smile and then looked at the portrait. They were the same person, weren’t they?

"Thank you." Romeo said and started running out of there. "But this isn’t over."

Alexa watched him leave and then shook her head. Such a kid.

She once again glanced at the portrait and felt ’what a world we live in?’

While staring at the portrait, Edward approached her.

"Excuse me, Miss. I was asked to take you to your room." He said and Alexa turned around, stunning Edward.

"You must be Edward." She said, "You can call me Alexa." She added but Edward was still staring at her. She immediately realized why and felt awkward. "Oh. We look alike, don’t we?"

Edward lowered his head a bit and took out his handkerchief to clean his eyes.

"Yes. Yes, you do." He said.

Edward took Alexa to her room and on her way, talked about how anyone who knew Ariel would be shocked to see her.

"Can you tell me more about her? Ariel, I mean. Can you tell me more about Ariel?" Alexa requested and Edward nodded.

"The mistress, I served her for a short while but I knew she was a good kid. She passed through a lot and had a lot of scars that refused to heal but through those scars, she always managed to smile." He explained.

’Scars.’ Alexa thought and touched her back. ’They were probably emotional scars. There’s no way they could be as brutal as the ones in my back.’

"She was a very confident lady and once she set her mind towards something, she was bound to accomplish it." Edward explained further. "And that was how she got her revenge on the savages that raised her horribly."

"What was that about?"

Edward stopped and turned to her.

"The news outlets may not provide any information on this but know that like my master, Miss Ariel was also an illegitimate child who passed through hell while growing up." He looked forward and continued walking. "From the outside, she looked like a weak little girl but inside, she was very strong. Strong enough to hold against the mental damage they inflicted on her and strong enough to reach out to the hand that would save her."

He stood in front of the room door and turned to her, showing a sad smile.

"That was the sort of lady my master fell in love with." He made a little bow and said, "Here is your room. If you need anything, be sure to let me know."

Edward made his way out of there and Alexa walked in. She walked into her room and closed the door.

Standing at the door, Alexa felt her heart twist in a way she didn’t understand. It actually hurt and she found herself clutching on to her chest. Why did it hurt so much?

Knowing that Alexa wasn’t the carefree girl she thought she was and knowing she had passed through a lot just made her feel sad and broken for some odd reasons.

"I want to cry." She said to herself and walked away from the door. "I feel really bad for her."

She sat down on the bed and covered her face. Pursing her lips, she tried to keep in the tears.

"Alexa, calm down." She told herself. "It’s not your fault. None of this has to do with you so stop feeling it so deeply."

She gave out a deep breath and got up. She needed to take a bath. Yeah, she needed to clear her mind with a nice bath.

Raymond watched Rachael as she hopped up and down on the alphabet mat. She looked like she was having fun.

"Aren’t you going to work?" Steve asked and Raymond looked up. "You’ve been staying home these past two days just because you want to stick close to the child, don’t you think it’s too much?"

"Steve, I was experimenting." Raymond said. "I tried to see if I would get tired of watching Rachael or if my interest in her would decrease even a little bit but it didn’t."

"Then how long do you plan to carry on this experiment? If you want to try any more, just take her to the company with you, will you?" Steve scolded. "You’ve been slacking and making things difficult for the people working for you."

Raymond stayed silent and Steve just got frustrated. It was like he was talking to a brick wall.

"Didn’t you say you had a lot to do and that’s why you couldn’t leave the country to have your therapy sessions? Where did all that work go?" He questioned but Raymond still remained silent. "Argh."

He walked out of there, slammed the door a little and in that same motion, walked back in and sat right next to Raymond.

"Alright, you win. You would rather spend time with Rachael than work. I’m proud that you’re taking a little rest but this all-of-a-sudden break will kill your employees. Look at Moses, for example." He said, referring to the CEO under Raymond. "He’s left with all the work and his daily bread became coffee. Can’t you take pity on him?"

"If he can’t handle this little, then he’s not fit to be the CEO." Raymond calmly said, his eyes still fixed on Rachael who was now playing with the dollhouse Raymond had gotten her.

"Is that all you have to say?" Steve asked and Raymond tore his gaze away from Rachael and looked at him.

"Anything else?" He asked.

Steve was dumbstruck. What would he say to this bonehead to get him to go back to work?

Taking a break was nice and all and everyone knew he needed it but such a sudden break was killing his employees.

He always took on heavy loads of work so for him to suddenly dump those heavy loads on people who were still growing, it was torture. They weren’t inhumane like him when it came to work.

"Ugh." He exclaimed and watched Raymond return his gaze to Rachael.

He also looked at Rachael and felt there was more to see in this little girl but the attraction Raymond had towards her was unusual. It was too unusual.

"Alright, I can’t convince you." He said, finally giving up his attempt to persuade him to go back to work. "Moving on, did you know that your psychologist takes headache pills that induce memory loss?"

"What?"
