I Am An Illegitimate Child With A Legitimate Reason For Revenge-Chapter 161: Romeo meets Rachael
Raymond looked at Steve in surprise. Who would do such a thing? He looked at Rachael and said,
"Rachael, I need to talk outside for a moment. I’ll be right back." She nodded without a problem and watched them leave.
Unknowing to them, once they were outside, she went to the door to eavesdrop on their conversation.
"What do you mean by that?" Raymond asked Steve.
"After testing her blood, I found traces of benzodiazepines and anticholinergic ingredients. There was an awful lot and those drugs induce memory loss and if there is already a memory loss, they make it difficult for the patient to recover their memories. If they try to recall their memories, they will only end up getting a severe headache and then take the drug once more because it alleviates the pain for the moment and at the same time, keeps the memories buried."
"Why would she take such a thing?" Raymond asked.
"My guess is that she has no idea that she is taking such a medicine." Steve said. "It might’ve been given to her by someone she trusts and since she feels a bit relieved after taking the drug, she thinks of it as legit." 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
"In other words..."
"If she keeps taking those drugs, she will never regain her memories and if care isn’t taken, she might even lose the ones she currently has."
Raymond was silent. Alexa didn’t look like someone with missing memories. She was so confident and well built so what memories was she missing?
"Are you sure of what you’re saying?" Raymond asked Steve and he nodded.
Raymond got lost in his thoughts. Would he have to ask her of her missing memories? No, would she even remember that she was missing any memories?
"What treatment do you suggest she takes?" He asked.
"I’m not certain yet but for starters, she has to stop taking that medicine. Maybe I’ll run a hyperthymesia for her first to see if it can jog out whatever memory she lost." Steve said and Raymond nodded.
"Alright. I’ll go talk to her."
Raymond returned to the room. Rachael was with her doll house but she had her back facing the door.
"Rachael, are you okay?" He asked and she turned around, looking cheerful like before.
"Of course. Are we going out now?"
"Not yet." He stroked her hair. "I still need to talk to your mummy a bit more. She doesn’t seem strong yet." He said and she nodded.
"Rachael, would you like to see my son?" Steve asked but Rachael did not look happy about it.
"Um, maybe later." She said and got up to her feet. "I want to see my mummy first."
Raymond nodded and carried her up.
"We’ll be going." he said and Steve nodded. He watched them leave and then looked at the scattered toys on the floor.
"I guess I’ll have to get someone to clean up before they get back."
Raymond carried Rachael towards Alexa’s room but before getting there, he found Romeo pacing back and forth like he was lost in contemplation.
"Romeo." He called and Romeo flinched. He looked up at his uncle and then gulped.
"I have a confession to make." Romeo said.
"If it’s about the portrait, I already know." He said.
"You know?" Romeo asked in surprise. But then, his attention was diverted to the little girl holding on to his uncle tightly. "Who’s that?" He pointed and Raymond lowered his finger.
"Don’t carelessly point at people." He said and to Rachael, he said, "Rachael, look down for a bit."
Rachael finally revealed her face and looked down. She saw the little boy who was staring in surprise and looked away.
"That’s Romeo." Raymond said. "Go ahead and say hi."
Instead of saying hi, Rachael’s face pumped up as she sulked.
"What is it?"
"I thought you said you didn’t have a child. You already have a son, don’t you?" She asked and folded her arms.
"No, Rachael. This is Romeo, my nephew. He’s the son of the uncle I was with just a moment ago." He explained and Rachael opened one eye before opening the other.
"Really?" She looked down at him. "How come he looks a lot like you?"
"You too." Romeo finally spoke up. "Why do you look a lot like my uncle? Uncle doesn’t have a child."
"I’m his daughter now so deal with it." Rachael said and stuck her tongue out at him.
He felt pissed and pointed his finger at her, against the warning he got a minute ago.
"Stop lying. My uncle doesn’t have a daughter." He said and Raymond sighed.
"Romeo, this is Rachael." He said and proceeded to put Rachael down. "She’ll be staying here for a while so make sure to get along with her."
"But she’s mean, Uncle. How can I get along with her?" Romeo accused and Rachael gasped.
"Me, mean?" She turned to Raymond with twinkling eyes and pouty lips. "Am I mean?"
"Of course not, you’re a sweetheart." Raymond said and patted her head. She turned her head with a devilish smirk, mocking Romeo in the process.
"You..."
He pointed again and Raymond lowered his hand once more.
"No pointing." He said.
Raymond was surprisingly soft toward children, unlike how he handled his employees and workers. He wasn’t particularly mean to them but compared to how gentle he was with children, it was as if he was purposely giving them hell.
"I need to give this guy a piece of my mind." Rachael said, drawing up invisible sleeves and Romeo followed suit.
"Come at me."
"Now, now. No fighting." Raymond warned and they both turned their backs against each other.
"Hmph!"
Raymond sighed once more. It didn’t look like they would get on well but... if they did manage to get on well, they would be the best of friends, no doubt.
He smiled.
"What’s so funny?" Rachael asked with a little sweet voice.
"You two." He said and finally chuckled. "You look like you were born the same day."
"What? I’m sure I’m older than her." Romeo bragged with his nose in the air but Rachael couldn’t agree to that.
"Of course not." She said, "I’m sure I was born wayyyyyy before you. Hmph."
"Oh yeah, let’s count it." He stretched out his hands and started calculating God knows what with his fingers. Rachael equally did the same but got stuck.
"Hm, how do you calculate if the numbers are more than your fingers?" She asked.
"Dummy, you can just use mine." Romeo said and Rachael nodded. "After six comes seven, right?" He asked and Rachael nodded again.
"Right."
Raymond watched them and closed his eyes. Like he thought, they would be best of friends.
The both of them were already playing calculations so he decided to go to Alexa first and ask his questions before Rachael was done. But the moment he opened the door, his gaze fell on a back filled with scars, no different from the ones that used to be in Ariel’s back.
Stunned, he found himself frozen in place with wide eyes.
