(BL)Alpha Made-Chapter 580: Side story 10
Andrew felt a little out of sorts the whole day, which was to be expected. Andrew would even say that Maxwell wasn't quite himself. His smile was too tight, his movements a little on the jerky side of things. Andrew wasn't much better.
When Amir showed up as Ahana's support, he could tell with just a glance that something wasn't quite right. Thankfully, the kids couldn't tell anything was wrong, but Amir pulled Maxwell to the side, asking if everything was alright at home. Maxwell told Amir what had happened that morning, and Amir was shocked, before his expression had melted into one of concern and he looked towards Andrew.
Andrew couldn't hear their conversation, but Maxwell told him about it in hushed tones while they were watching over the children after.
Amir was concerned for Andrew, knowing how triggering true alpha related issues were for him. Maxwell had thanked him for his concern and then had admitted that he didn't think either of them were taking it particularly well. Maxwell had thought that they would have more time together before he'd have to start worrying about whether his children were like him or Andrew.
That was when Amir, and Andrew, remembered that Maxwell had started his whole company because he'd been oversensitive as a kid and that had really fucked up his childhood. So much so that he didn't want that kind of treatment for himself or anyone else.
Andrew felt his stomach drop as he realised that that could happen to Ollie, or even Julian. It wouldn't happen to Flora because it was obvious at this point what path she was going down, but it was a terrifying reality. All because of their genes, their children could suffer.
Either way, Maxwell had his own concerns, and Andrew felt like a damn fool for forgetting about it in the face of his own issues.
It tainted the day a bit for Andrew since he was so worried about how he had forgotten about Maxwell's own concerns. His focus wasn't directly on the kids anymore, but Maxwell didn't even flinch. After his brief conversation with Amir, and his debrief with Andrew, Maxwell continued on as normal. He was professional, smug, showing off how happy he was with his children and also how big and important he was. He did not even hint that he was upset or disquieted by Flora's potential manifestation, and instead was focusing more on the children themselves and what he had come here for.
To show off.
Maxwell was a sight to see. He was all smiles, perfect hair, and not a single thing out of place. He charmed every mother and father that came, including Amir and Noah's partner. Andrew was worried that Maxwell was overstretching himself, but Maxwell would hear none of it.
His phrasing even made Andrew feel terrible when he finally told Andrew to back off.
"Andy, I love you, but one of us needs to make sure that the kids don't even have a glimmer of being bullied. I want no one to think that my children, no matter who they are or what they become, are touched by their hands. I want them to be able to do what they want and love who they want. To do that, I need to make sure that my image that looms over them is terrifying enough that no one would even think about it." Andrew was a little upset that Maxwell was saying that Andrew wasn't terrifying enough to dissuade anyone from bullying his kids. Then he was upset that Maxwell thought anyone would even try.
However, Maxwell wouldn't hear it, and instead went back to charming the pants off of everyone around him, to the point that Andrew had to pull up his pants and make sure that everyone knew that Maxwell was happily married and not hitting on other people's partners.
Flora and Ollie desperately wanted their parents to stop doing what they were doing. They were embarrassing them by being so damn charming that the class was disrupted by the fact that even the teacher found the two of them too tempting.
Amir's head was in his hands, Noah's partner was chuckling, and their cousins were grinning and giggling. Andrew and Maxwell were always like this. They were often accidentally seducing people all around them just by being themselves.
Maxwell did it rarely, so it was more dangerous when he did it because it was unexpected. Most people had forgotten about how Maxwell used to be before he was caught with Andrew and how many scandals he'd gotten into due to his parents influence. Andrew however, was notorious for it. He had incredible energy, a soft smile, and a handsome face. He also towered over most people, so it was easy to see the handsome man. He was also too kind for his own good, usually making Maxwell a good balance for him.
But when both men were at it?
Not a single person could resist them. Well, there were a few that could, but even they were charmed by the sweet boys. Add to the fact that Andrew was also a Doctor, and good with kids? Yeah, even if he was in a funk, he was still able to make a few parents second guess themselves.
Everything went…as smooth as it could go, but Andrew and Maxwell definitely needed to speak to the teacher in charge of Flora and Oliver once the day was done. It was a hard thing to do, since it was obvious that other parents wanted to speak to them as well, and that they also wanted to speak to Andrew and Maxwell, but Maxwell was able to swing it.
He was used to negotiating after all, and like the expert that he was, he got both Andrew, himself, and the teacher in charge into a private office to speak.
That was where Andrew let her know that that morning they had begun to notice some changes with Flora. They wanted to let them know since they would be seeing her for roughly 8 hours a day so they would be able to notice if anything else happened. They also wanted them to keep an eye out for Ollie as well. It was likely that if one was going to manifest soon, they both were. It could also be a false alarm.
Andrew was completely new to this kind of worry since he 'manifested' late, and Maxwell didn't manifest until he was 12. The teacher seemed surprised, but not overly. This was the time where lots of the kids started to show signs, and that they started to do the blood tests to see what they were likely to turn into, if anything.
Andrew couldn't remember that part, but there was a lot of his childhood that was still locked to him. Lots of the unpleasant memories were tucked away, and if Andrew couldn't remember it, it was likely that it had to do with his shitty father.
Who was in jail for a long damn time, thank everything holy.
However, it was a relief that the teacher took their concerns seriously, especially with the reality that Flora appeared to be manifesting into a true alpha. Andrew and Maxwell were going to have to have a talk with her soon, but they wanted to make sure that they knew first. At least, Andrew did, and when he glanced at Maxwell, he could tell that the man was also concerned.
"Please let us know if any of the children start showing signs of sensitivity to pheromones. I can send over a list of the normal symptoms, but I'm sure you are well aware. I just…don't want any of them to suffer." The teacher and Andrew softened at Maxwell's kind words.
Say what anyone could about Maxwell, his heart was in the right place.

When they got out from their impromptu meeting with the teacher, Amir was waiting with Ahana, Mehar, Daniel, Sasha, Fern and Oliver and Flora. Bella and the other older children went to a different school since they were older. Amir was truly surrounded by a gaggle of children, but they all listened to him intently.
They were running around and playing, Ollie grinning at his parents when he saw them leaving the school. Amir smiled as they approached, looking like he had an idea of what they had talked about. Mehar, normally one to play with the others, hung back with her Dad, looking like she wasn't having a very good day.
"Is everything alright, Mehar?" Andrew asked carefully, worried for the young girl. Amir smiled, pressing a kiss to the forehead of the pretty young girl. She had Ben's sharp features, but Amir's eyesight and pretty eyes. She didn't copy her Dad with gold rims, however, opting for a girly floral pattern that suited her.
It would have made her great grandma proud.
"Mehar is just feeling under the weather because her period started. She's doing well, but she doesn't want the other kids to know." Amir told them and the poor girl looked like she was going to faint.
"Dad!" She screeched, horrified and Maxwell and Andrew smiled warmly.
"Mehar, sweetheart, Uncle Andy is a Doctor. He's worried about your health, and Uncle Max is just worried for you. Why don't you tell him what else is going on?" Amir encouraged his oldest gently. Mehar looked uncomfortable, but Amir chuckled and kissed her forehead again. "Sweetheart, Uncle Andy is your Doctor, and Uncle Will will snoop when it comes to you. It's better to tell them now then hide it." Amir said and Mehar's cheeks flushed.
"I got my period and…my diagnosis." It felt rather topical, given everything that Andrew and Maxwell were feeling and going through with Flora. Andrew bent, knowing better than anything else that his acceptance in this moment was important. He placed a hand on the smaller woman's shoulder, giving it a supportive squeeze.
"It seems to me that it was only the other day that you were just a little baby in your Dad's stomach making him crave all kinds of sugary drinks. What has our little Mimi manifested into, hmm?" Andrew's voice was soft, sweet, and the poor girl swallowed.
"I-I'm going to be an alpha." She said, sounding glum. "But I wanted to be like my Dad." She said and Maxwell gave a snort.
"You are like your Dad." He countered and the 11 year old scowled at Maxwell.
"Not that Dad!" She said with a little too much force. Amir chuckled.
"Your Daddy is going to be distraught hearing that." He teased and Mehar's face flushed more.
"It's okay, Mimi." Andrew said, squeezing her shoulder again. "There is nothing wrong with being an alpha. That just means you're going to grow into someone strong enough to be able to protect those around you. Or, you can be like me, and find an omega who wants to take care of you even more than you do." Andrew said with a grin. Mehar's sullen expression shifted slightly as she glanced between Andrew and Maxwell.
"That can happen?" She asked and Maxwell chuckled.
"He lured me in with good cooking. That's typically something that people say omegas can do well. Nothing has to be gendered, Mimi. Being an alpha won't define you, it just means that you're going to have different urges, a scent, and a couple of new desires. If you're ever worried, you can always talk to your Dad, or you can talk to Uncle Andy. Because he's a true alpha, he still smells everyone still. He can help you with control once you fully manifest." Mehar seemed surprised to hear that as Andrew gave a grin.
"It helps with work." Andrew said, and he meant it. It was a small benefit for him, and one that he was glad that he had. Mehar looked a little less upset as she mulled over those words.
"Does it mean that others are going to avoid me? Am I going to be stinky?" She asked and Andrew laughed.
"If anyone says that Mehar Beckett is stinky, you tell me and I'll send a strongly worded letter to their parents in complaint. As long as you bathe more as you get older, you'll be fine Mimi." Andrew told her, his Doctor's voice sneaking in. She nodded, before she glanced at the adults and sighed.
"I want to go sit closer. Can I do that?" She asked and Amir nodded.
"Go on, sweetheart." He told her, his eyes warm with love and she left.
"She's going to be fine." Maxwell told Amir and Amir sighed.
"I hope so. You saw how nervous and worried she is. It's terrible to get both her period and her report back in the same week. She's on day two, and day one felt like a damn bloodbath." Amir muttered. "I never had to deal with a period." He muttered. Andrew realised that was another thing he was going to have to deal with too.
He better stock up soon.
