Chapter 156: I can’t tell what he’s thinking at all

Raymond carried Rachael and Alexa inside the mansion. Edward, as well as the maids, were all surprised to see what they were seeing.

When was the last time their master carried a lady in his arms? And not just that, there was a child riding his back. After all, what did they miss in the last several Chapters?

"You’re back?" Steve asked as he approached Raymond. But then he paused. In Raymond’s arms was a sleeping lady with an appearance that wasn’t very different from Ariel.

From the lady, he looked up at Raymond in disbelief and then at the little girl who was clutching on tight to his neck.

"This is..."

"Stop staring." Raymond said and walked past him. "I need you to check on her."

Steve stood in place and watched Raymond leave.

He came over to the mansion because he wanted to see for himself how much control the little girl had on Raymond but seeing this, he felt the little girl wasn’t the only one who had control here.

How was he okay carrying another lady, other than Ariel...in his arms? It was really suspicious.

Steve checked Ariel’s pulse, only to find out her heartbeat was faster than normal. He turned to Raymond who held a sleeping Rachael in his arms. Couldn’t he just put her down already? 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

He had no one to ask, if not he wanted to know what exactly Alexa took in before downing several glasses of alcohol.

"I’ll have to take a blood test." He said, taking off the stethoscope from his ear. "You can go put the little girl to sleep now."

Raymond silently looked down at Rachael and then at Alexa. He gave out a little sigh and turned around.

Steve did not need to ask to know that he was taking Rachael to his room. But other than that... he looked at the room. Why did he make them prepare this room for Alexa?

This room was... Ariel’s room.

"I can’t tell what he’s thinking at all." Steve muttered and shook his head. "Let’s just get this over with."

He took a sample of Alexa’s blood and went to run some tests. While the tests were ongoing, he attached an IV drip to her, hoping she’d regain a bit of strength and wake up but that did not happen anytime soon.

Alexa finally woke up. She opened her eyes and looked to her left, and then her right. Where was she? This didn’t look like her room and he didn’t look like a hospital either so where...?

Her eyes widened as she thought of the possibility of this being Serena’s house.

"Rachael?" She called. Where was her daughter? "Rachael!" She called and noticed the drip attached to her arm. What was that? Panicked, she quickly pulled it out of her arm.

Not minding the bleeding, she got up and staggered. She felt a bit weak. What was in that drip?

She picked herself up and started heading for the door but the moment she opened it, she stumbled upon a lady.

"Oh, you’re awake." She said,

’Fluent English. Where am I?’ She wondered while staring into the face of this beautiful and unknown lady.

The lady, Paige, in turn stared at her face. The resemblance to Ariel was uncanny. Just her eyes were a little bit farther apart than Ariel’s but other than that, they were so alike.

"You...Who are you?" Alexa asked and Paige smiled.

"Startled, are we?" She asked and took Alexa’s hand. "Come, you need to sit first. You’re still not that strong."

"Wait." Alexa held back, refusing to go back into the room. "Who are you and where am I?"

"Would you really like me to answer that while you’re standing? Your legs are practically shaking." Paige said and Alexa bit down on her lip.

She was weak, yeah but she couldn’t rest easy knowing her daughter was someplace she didn’t know about.

"Where’s Rachael?" She asked and Paige shook her head.

"You’re stubborn, huh?" She drew Alexa to herself and lifted her off her feet, startling her. "With how long you’ve been passed out, you’re practically weightless."

"Put me down." Alexa demanded.

"Alright but just for a moment." Paige entered the room without fully closing the door and put Alexa down on the bed. "Now, you can ask me all you want to know."

"Where am I? And where’s my daughter?" Alexa asked straight away.

"First off, your daughter is in good hands. She’s probably having her lunch as we speak so don’t worry. We all love her." Paige said, smiling gleefully.

"What?" Alexa was confused. Who was the ’we’ she was talking about?

"And for the other, you’re currently in Raymond Stein’s mansion." Paige said, causing Alexa’s eyes to widen.

"Raymond Stein’s mansion? How? I was home and..."

"And passed out. Your daughter was so scared that she called the person she trusted the most." Paige explained. "And like a knight in shining armor, Raymond Stein, the moron, set out in the middle of the night, got into your house and swooped you into his arms. It’s impolite, I know but there was nothing else he could do."

"Wait, hold on a minute." Alexa but her eyes. "You’re saying... Raymond Stein flew to my house, in the middle of the night, just because Rachael called him?" She looked in disbelief.

"Shocking, right? We all wonder what’s going on in his head." Paige said, slightly shaking her head. "But that’s just the gist of it."

Alexa was silent. Was this real? Why would Raymond Stein go through all that trouble for her daughter? Was he really planning to take her daughter from her?

And this lady. She looked so dignified and she would’ve thought she was a lady who didn’t need to pick up a thing in her life but after she carried her from the door, her thoughts were swayed.

In any case, she was really pretty.

"And you, who are you? Are you his girlfriend?" Alexa asked and Paige’s face contorted but she quickly composed herself and answered,

"No, Raymond Stein is my brother-in-law. And I’m married by the way." She answered and folded her arms.

"Then that means you’re," she said as she stared at her long black hair. "...Ariel’s sister?" The question came out subconsciously and Paige paused.

"You know about that?" She asked but then looked aside, feeling like an idiot. "Of course you’d know. You’re his psychologist." she muttered and looked back at her. "Ariel was actually my cousin. You’re well aware that my brother-in-law can’t get past her, right?"

Alexa nodded.

"And that you look a lot like her?" She asked further and Alexa once again nodded.

"Yes, I am aware." She silently answered and Paige got closer.

"So, how do you find his unusual attachment to your daughter?"
