I Am An Illegitimate Child With A Legitimate Reason For Revenge-Chapter 127: That’s not really my business
Alexa got back home and opened the door, only to see Stacy, the babysitter, pacing back and forth with a worried look.
"What’s going on?" She asked and Stacy flinched. She looked up and looked at Alexa worriedly.
"Um, welcome back, ma’am." She said and darted her eyes to the side.
Alexa looked at her suspiciously. What was she looking so anxious about?
"Where’s Rachael?" She asked.
"She... she’s in her room." She said with her head down and before she knew it, Alexa had already walked up to her.
"What is it? Did you do something wrong?" She asked her and Stacy gulped. Alexa standing so close to her made her even more nervous.
"The thing is... "
At the award shelf, a particular glass frame cracked in two and that was what Stacy was worried about. It looked so pretty and she wanted to just take a quick look before putting it back but unfortunately, while attempting to drop it back on the shelf, it slipped and fell.
Scared that it would shatter if it crashed on the floor, she used her legs to soften the landing. Though it still cracked, it wasn’t as bad as shattering to pieces.
Alexa looked at the glass frame and sighed. It wasn’t something to fuss about but... She kept it back on the shelf and looked at Stacy.
"How’s your leg?" She asked.
"I-I’m fine. It doesn’t hurt." She said, nervously scratching the back of her head.
"This is why I told you not to touch it at all. You could hurt yourself. Anyway, this is your pay."
Alexa handed her a paper envelope and she quickly thanked her.
"Thank you so much."
After Stacy left, Alexa had to rethink the idea of getting a young babysitter if ever there was going to be a next time. Naivety could be a bad thing sometime.
"Rachael?" Alexa called and Rachael, who had come from her room and was sitting on the couch, turned her head from the TV to look at her.
"Yes, mummy?"
"Did everything go well?" She asked as she went to join her on the couch.
"I could say so. She wasn’t mean but not too smart either. For a moment I thought she was going to frame me for the broken frame but it seems she’s not that stupid to realize that I can’t reach that far with my size."
"Why do you think she planned to frame you?"
"Hm, it’s the way she looked at me." Rachael said and turned to face the TV.
Alexa stroked her daughter’s hair and a certain thought flashed through her mind. This daughter of hers was growing too fast in terms of maturity.
"Cinnamon, do you miss your daddy?" She asked her and Rachael turned to her looking a bit confused.
"Mummy, did anything happen today?" She asked her but Alexa shook her head. "You’ve never asked me that before. Why would I miss someone I don’t even know?" 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
This question struck Alexa. It was true. Why would she miss someone she didn’t know?
"What about you, mummy? Do you miss him?" Rachael asked in response and Alexa shook her head before kissing her on the forehead.
"No. And you’re right. Why would I miss someone I don’t even know?" She smiled and got up from the couch. "Let me go change my clothes before making dinner."
Rachael nodded and watched her mother leave. Her eyes stayed on the wrapped hand and she was convinced that something had happened at work.
"That’s not really my business. It’s for the grown ups." She said to herself and turned her attention back to her cartoon.
Alexa closed her room door and leaned on it for a while. Yeah, it wasn’t possible to miss someone your mind could not remember but that couldn’t be said to the heart.
Her heart belonged to that man, it knew him and loved him. So certainly, the feeling of loneliness would remain there. And for her heart to remember what deep love she felt for her late husband, she felt she needed to remember. She wanted to remember who he was but something kept telling her she was better off not remembering the past. It would bring her nothing but pain.
She took off her shirt and looked at her body in the mirror. The scars all over her body was proof that bad things happened to her in the past but she couldn’t tell what it was. If they were made by her husband, she definitely wouldn’t yearn for him the way she still did. But what if it was really made by him and that scare was just forgotten from her heart?
She sighed.
It was so confusing.
She touched the silver necklace round her neck and sighed once more. That was the only thing that gave her comfort and was probably the only thing she remembered. This was... her mother’s necklace.
"Mummy?" Rachael called from the door and she flinched.
"Yes, sweetheart? Don’t come in, I’ll be out in a moment." She said and quickly put on a polo. She was scared of showing her daughter that horrible side of her. She might get scared and have nightmares, were her thoughts.
Alexa opened the door and walked out.
"Is anything the matter?" She asked her but Alexa shook her head.
"That uncle is at the door." She said and Alexa tilted her head.
"What uncle?" she asked but Rachael did not say more and simply led her mother to the screen.
A young man was standing outside their door while waiting patiently for a response from the occupants of the house he had come to visit.
"Javen?" Alexa called and asked, "What are you doing here?"
Javen, from outside the door, heard Alexa’s voice and answered,
"Well, it’s White day and I wanted to give you a gift."
"Didn’t you already give me something on Valentine’s day? If anything, I’m supposed to be the one reciprocating that gift. Sorry about that by the way. I didn’t get you anything."
"No, it’s okay. I like giving you gifts." He smiled and Alexa sighed. Such a stubborn guy. "Well, can I come in?"
"Of course. Just wait a moment."
