I Am An Illegitimate Child With A Legitimate Reason For Revenge-Chapter 128: My sister got it for me last week
Javen was a guy living in the same building but two floors downward and also her fellow lecturer in the university. They got close while seeing each other often and though she didn’t like accepting favors, Javen was the kind of guy who was relentless about helping.
He had made his intentions clear that he wanted to be in an intimate relationship with Alexa but she always shunned the idea and made it clear to him that she wasn’t interested in that sort of relationship.
But, as relentless as he was, he still went on with giving her gifts. She didn’t reject them either because she knew she already made it clear to him that she wouldn’t get in a relationship with him so her accepting his gifts wasn’t an act of giving him false hope.
"Hello, Uncle." Rachael greeted him with a cheerful smile.
’Plus, he’s really good to Rachael so it’s not bad having him around.’ She thought.
"Hello, Rachael. You’re looking as lovely as ever." He said and carried her up. "Have you been good?"
"Yes." She happily answered, beaming like sunshine.
"That’s good." Javen said and Rachael hurried to the couch to watch her cartoon.
Alexa looked at Rachael in wonder and ended up shaking her head. She didn’t want to say it but her daughter was a bit of a hypocrite. Wrong word to use on her beloved daughter but it was true. Too true.
Whenever she was out of the house, she would completely transform into a different child. Not that she wasn’t a good child but she hid her maturity well. She acted timid and wanting unlike when she was alone with her in the house.
She wanted to think that she acted like that outside because she wanted to receive more favors from the grownups but there wasn’t anything she wanted. She wasn’t lacking anything and also didn’t ask them for anything.
It was as if she wanted them to perceive her in a warm and sweet light and not the matured, understanding and patient little girl she actually was.
Alexa was a psychologist but she couldn’t fully understand her daughters motives and this gave her a little cause to worry but nevertheless, as long as she was happy, she too was happy.
"Would you like to stay for dinner? I was about to prepare pasta." Alexa inquired but Javen politely declined.
"It’s alright. I’m driving out somewhere tonight so I can’t really stay for dinner." He said and smiled. "Anyway, I got you this."
He tucked his hand in his pocket and brought out a gold necklace.
"Happy White day." He said and Alexa’s gaze instinctively went to her daughter who was secretly watching but immediately looked away in pretense and she giggled. Who was she trying to fool?
"Thank you but I already have this necklace brand." She said and Javen’s expression shifted a bit but he tried not to let it show that he was disappointed.
"Really? It’s not a common brand so I thought..."
"My sister got it for me last week. Sorry for the trouble though." She said, smiling at him and he blushed but looked aside in shame.
"It’s alright." He said and kept the necklace back in his pocket. "Then, I’ll be on my way."
"Yeah." She saw him to the door and once he was out, she said, "Javen, happy white day. I hope you find the right owner for that necklace." With that, she closed the door.
From the screen, she watched him stand at the door for a while, took out the necklace from his pocket and stared at it.
’Is he not going to leave? I’m glad he didn’t stay for dinner. If not , it might’ve been a bit awkward.’ She thought and then he started leaving.
Seeing that he was gone, she sighed in relief and turned to her daughter.
"Rachael, do you like Javen?" She asked her but she did not respond. "Then, do you see him as a good guy?"
"He’s awfully persistent." Rachael answered. "And persistence hurts at some point."
"You’re right and I’ve rejected him a few times too. When will he accept my rejection and move on?" She asked and suddenly realized the type of conversation she was having with her four years old daughter. It was so pathetic.
Why wouldn’t she mature for her age when all she hears is the troubles of a grown up?
"I’ll go make dinner." She said and attempted to stand up when Rachael caught her pinky with her little hand.
"Mummy," she called and Alexa looked at her daughter who looked a bit sad. "...you shouldn’t cry on your own."
"What? Where is that coming from?" Alexa asked, looking surprised but Rachael simply smiled at her and turned her gaze back to her cartoon.
This made Alexa feel restless. Were there actions from her that made it seem like she was crying alone in her room?
"Rachael." She muttered, while stroking her hair and got up. She didn’t know what to do or how to ask her daughter and this made her feel like a terrible mother. "I... I’ll go make dinner."
Rachael watched her mother leave and then sighed.
’The world may see my mummy as a strong independent woman. She herself thinks she can handle anything but... she is human too. She can get hurt and a loss will definitely bring her down. I have to be more understanding of her situation and grow up fast so she doesn’t feel burdened.’ She thought and hugged her knees.
She was doing so much and thinking too much for a four year old.
There was a time when she acted and played like someone her age, cried when she felt hurt and cared about nothing but after what her aunt told her... she had to start looking at everything in a different light.
When those kids mocked her for having no father, she ignored them and simply smiled like it didn’t concern her and though it hurt her a few times, she wanted to be the best.
If she was well behaved, her mother would definitely not feel burdened and if she got good grades and acted like she got along well with her mates, her mother would be proud.
Those were the words Serena fed this poor little thing.
