Chapter 115: I’m exhausted

Raymond got down from the car with Steve and White in tow. They entered the church first and after a few minutes, the bride followed suit.

Walking down the aisle, Ariel felt all shades of nervousness but all in all, she was happy. So happy that it all felt unreal. And suddenly, an ominous feeling gripped her.

Not wanting to dwell on any form of bad omen on this beautiful and blessed day, Ariel kicked it aside and focused on what was before her.

Skylar and Paige walked Ariel towards the altar and there, they parted ways.

Raymond held Ariel’s hand and squeezed it lightly. The veil covering her face was see through so he could clearly see the warm smile she had on her lips.

"My queen." He said and aided her up the podium.

"We are gathered together to bless this beautiful matrimony on this blessed day." The priest began.

All eyes were on the stunning Raymond who’s charms could never be beaten and the beautiful bride who stood with an air of confidence and pride.

Rumors had it that she was a granddaughter of the Winston family and that was the connection she had with Skylar and Paige. Since the head of the Winston’s did not bother to confirm or refute the rumors, many concluded that it was true.

"Now, say your vows." The priest said and they both turned to each other.

"I swear to love you," they both chorused. "... With all my heart, all my life, in sickness and in health, in riches and in debt, till death do us apart." They smiled together and the crowd cheered.

The little cute ring bearer came forward with the rings and Ariel saw her ruby ring glimmering ever so beautifully.

They exchanged rings and once more the crowd cheered.

"Now, the groom may lift the bride’s veil and finalize this matrimony with a kiss."

Slowly, Raymond raised the veil and finally beheld a clearer view of his wife’s face. She looked so beautiful, so innocent.

"Ray." She called, snapping him out of his thoughts and he saw her smile. "They’re waiting." She whispered.

Raymond smiled back, cupped her face and kissed her on the lips. Everyone cheered. Paige made sure to stand and clap, announcing to the world that she was in full support of this marriage.

"I now pronounce you, husband and wife. Mister and Misses Stein." The priest concluded.

"I love you." Ariel muttered as they broke the kiss and Raymond pressed his forehead on hers.

"I love you more."

It was very fortunate that the wedding concluded without a hitch but one could not be too certain. The reception banquet kicked off shortly after till night fall.

Things were moving smoothly. Too smoothly in fact. Ariel didn’t want to bother herself and just enjoy it but she had this uneasy feeling, like things were going to take a down turn when they least expected it.

Sitting in front of the sea of people who were completely unfamiliar, she had only Raymond to look at. He entertained the guests who came to give their blessings and also drop their gifts.

Raymond noticed Ariel silently staring at him and leaned towards her.

"Are you tired?" He asked and she nodded. "Do you want it to end now?"

"I would but it’s too much to just drive away everyone who came to see you." She said,

"See ’us’, Ariel."

"Pft, you know they just want to make connections with you." She said and laughed.

"And that’s why they will come to you. They’ll try to get in your good books just so they can please me. So all in all, they’re all here to see ’us’." He explained and Ariel nodded.

"Yeah, right."

A moment later, Ariel decided to take a walk. This venue was sealed and only staff members and those with an invite were allowed in. But even at that, Raymond still sent two guards to accompany her on her walk.

"I’m exhausted." She exclaimed, stretching her arms out as she strolled through the path outside.

The air was fresh, night was lovely and this day was the day she never knew would come. Seriously, she would’ve been in the grave if Raymond hadn’t saved her that day. No, she might’ve been dead if she didn’t save him that night. Thanks to saving him, he was able to save her.

She subconsciously smiled. What luck she ran into.

"Who’s there?" One of the guards yelled and she looked back to see them on full alert.

"What’s going on?" She asked.

One of the guards immediately apprehended the intruder who was wearing a black hoodie. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

"Gah. I know her. Let me speak to her." The voice sounded eerily familiar and Ariel’s eyes twitched.

"Marco?" He raised his head and the guards took down his hood.

Marco looked like a complete wreck. His jaws were sunken really deep, his pupils looked dilated like he had been taking drugs and his lips were extremely dry. He looked like a beggar. But last she knew, he was rotting in jail so how was he here?

"What... what are you doing here?" She asked him while covering her nose from the offensive stench coming from him.

"Ariel, you know very much how I love you." He began and her eyebrows furrowed in disgust. Where was this coming from? "It’s thanks to me that you have all this now."

"And how exactly is this thanks to you?" She asked him, her gaze turning cold and he flinched but nevertheless, he kept talking.

"If I didn’t stab you and abandon you, you would never be here today. You have me to thank. I destroyed you so he could find you." He shamelessly stated and this just made her mood sour.

"You’re right that you stabbed me, leading to this fate I now have but... you weren’t the one who made me save him. I drew this fate for myself with my own actions so... Get a life." She turned, attempting to leave but he grabbed her leg.

The guards immediately took back his hand and pinned him down to the floor making him grunt in pain.

"You belong to me, Ariel. You’re my dirty whore, not that bastard’s. You’re mine. You have always been mine so you should continue to be mine." He kept rambling. "I own you."

Ariel took out her gun from her thigh and cocked it on his head. Fear immediately gripped him and he fell silent.

"No more words?" She asked but he couldn’t respond.
