His Mute Wife: He Can't Sleep After She Left-Chapter 92: How Is She Supposed to Live
Fresh blood ran down Kiana Sutton’s fingers, staining her white shirt red, but she seemed oblivious to the pain, her eyes staring straight at Joshua Sutton.
"I..."
Joshua couldn’t find the words. His eyes were fixed on Kiana’s bleeding fingers as he cried and begged, "Sis, let’s go to the hospital first, okay? Your hand looks really serious. What if... what if in the future..."
Joshua couldn’t even imagine—Kiana already couldn’t speak, and if she couldn’t use sign language either, what would become of his sister?
While Joshua worried about Kiana, Kiana’s mind was also filled with thoughts of Joshua.
Tears streamed down her face as she signed in despair, "You gave up on the exam. What will you do in the future? What will our family... do?"
Ever since Gordon Sutton’s incident, Kiana had been carefully and painstakingly holding the family together.
She had no big ambitions or wishes, only hoping that Joshua could get into a good university, and that once Gordon was released, their family could be together again.
But every time she caught a glimpse of hope, she was met with even greater disappointment and blows.
Joshua hugged Kiana tightly, wiping his tears as he patted her back to comfort her, "Sis, it’s okay. If I can’t get into college, there are other ways out. As long as we’re all okay, nothing is too hard to handle."
Kiana pushed Joshua away with a blank face, her tear-filled eyes turning cold as she looked at Hannah Lowell.
She seemed not to feel pain at all, coldly signing at Hannah, "Are you satisfied now?"
Hannah collapsed to the ground, burying her face in her hands and weeping aloud.
Kiana ignored her, and didn’t bother with Joshua either, leaving the private room like a dead woman walking.
Joshua was just about to run after her when Miles Goodman stopped him. "Go check on your mom first. Don’t worry, I’ll take your sister to the hospital."
If it hadn’t been for Miles, things wouldn’t have been resolved so quickly. Joshua glanced back at the sobbing, broken-down Hannah, his face grim as he nodded.
Kiana was sent to the hospital by Miles. Her fingers were badly injured and needed stitches.
While the doctor was stitching her up, Miles sat by Kiana’s side. Seeing her flesh split open, the hideous, terrifying wound, his heart ached so badly he wished he could take the pain for her.
Kiana’s face was pale as paper. Unable to cry out, her beautiful brows were tightly furrowed, her whole person seeming deeply shattered, her gaze distant.
Just the thought of it made Miles shudder. Luckily, Desmond Grant had been holding a military knife at the time, not an axe—or else, Kiana might have lost her hands altogether.
If that had happened, how could she go on living?
Because Kiana’s fingers were so badly injured, the doctor recommended hospitalization.
Kiana didn’t want to be admitted to the hospital, and Miles just about got down on his knees. "Please, little ancestor, if you’re not careful, you could have permanent damage. Stay and heal, I’m begging you."
Kiana was a little moved seeing Miles sweating buckets. Just as she was about to sign, he quickly pressed her hand down.
"I know what you want to say, but your hand’s just been stitched, you can’t move it. When your hand’s better, I’ll listen to whatever you want to say."
Just then, Joshua arrived at the hospital.
He had first taken Hannah home.
Hannah had also wanted to visit Kiana at the hospital, but Joshua stopped her. "Do you think seeing you right now would make Sis happy?"
"But her hand..."
The thought that all of this was because of Hannah filled Joshua with rage. "Now you care about her hand? Isn’t it a little late? Sometimes I wonder if we’re really your children!"
Seeing Hannah sobbing uncontrollably, Joshua’s pent-up anger had nowhere to go. He kicked over the table hard. "You keep saying it’s for her own good, that’s why you let her marry Ethan Sinclair. But deep down, you know what the truth really is!"
Worried about Kiana, and not wanting to waste more time on Hannah, he said, "If you have any conscience left, don’t cause any more trouble. Behave yourself—I’m going to the hospital to find my sister!"
Seeing him leaving, Hannah called after him in tears, "Joshua... I’m sorry... It’s all Mom’s fault..."
Joshua clenched his fists and said coldly, "You’d better pray my sister’s hand is okay. Otherwise, I’ll never forgive you in my life!"
Hannah never expected things to come to this. As the sound of the door slamming echoed, her legs gave out and she collapsed, crying even harder on the floor.
...
With Joshua and Miles pinning her down from both sides, Kiana finally agreed to be hospitalized.
In the ward, Kiana sat staring silently out the window, looking as terrible as could be. Miles and Joshua exchanged worried glances.
The atmosphere was so heavy it was almost eerie. Unable to bear it, Miles was the first to speak. "Hey, it’s already this late. Kiana, are you hungry? Want something to eat?"
Kiana finally turned her head to look at them. She shook her head at Miles and then looked at Joshua.
Just as she lifted her hand, both Miles and Joshua tensed up.
"Sis, don’t use your hand..."
Joshua was full of regret and remorse. If he’d opened the file right away instead of delaying—
Or, if he’d run faster on the way, maybe his sister wouldn’t be hurt now?
Now his sister couldn’t speak or use her hands. There was nothing she could want or express.
Kiana struggled to sign twice. "Afternoon... exam..."
Miles figured out what Kiana meant and quickly said to Joshua, "She’s saying you should go take your English exam this afternoon."
Joshua gritted his teeth. "I already missed one exam. Whether I take English or not doesn’t really..."
But seeing the chill in Kiana’s eyes, he immediately caved. "Okay, okay, I’ll go, all right? I promise I’ll give it my all."
Kiana really was angry and despairing, but by now she’d calmed down a lot and felt more and more that something was off. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
Ignoring the pain in her hand, she started using sign language again. "You... why... go..."
Every movement of her hand made Miles’s heart seize up. Seeing her sweating in pain but still insisting on signing, he couldn’t have felt worse for her.
He was internally frantic, but gently pressed her hand down. "I think I get what you mean. If I’m right, just nod."
Then he looked at Joshua. "Your sister wants to know—you’re supposed to be in your exam. Why did you go to the massage parlor?"
After he finished, Miles glanced at Kiana, and Kiana nodded.
So, both of them looked at Joshua.
At the same time, elsewhere, ever since Ethan Sinclair boarded the plane out of Varden, he’d felt restless and uneasy.
It left him extremely agitated. When business was finished and the host wanted to treat him to a meal, he refused and caught the next flight back to Varden.
After landing, Ethan texted Kiana. He waited half an hour, but she didn’t reply.
He checked the time. At this hour, Joshua should be in his English exam, and that woman—Kiana—would definitely be waiting for her beloved brother at the school gate.
What danger could there be at a school gate?
Could his unease be because of Kate Lynch?
"Connor Grant, go straight to the hospital!"
