His Mute Wife: He Can't Sleep After She Left-Chapter 93: Sooner or Later, You’ll Have to Call Me Brother-in-Law
Joshua Sutton saw that Kiana Sutton looked determined to get to the bottom of things, so he told her everything that had happened that morning.
A beautiful woman?
Kiana’s brows furrowed tightly.
Who could have calculated it so precisely? Waiting until she’d sent Joshua to school, then finding someone to deliver those kinds of photos to him, misleading him into thinking they were in danger so he’d rush out to save someone?
Kiana hadn’t figured out who it was yet when she heard Miles Goodman say, "Kiana, it’s getting late. I’ll take Joshua to eat, then bring him to the school for his exam, and after that I’ll bring you some lunch."
Nothing was more important than Joshua’s exam. Even though he’d missed one subject, he couldn’t just give up now.
Kiana nodded, her eyes full of gratitude as she looked at Miles Goodman.
"Sis, get some proper rest. Don’t move your fingers around. As soon as I’m done with the exam, I’ll come see you."
Kiana wanted Joshua to focus on his exam, but before she could gesture, Joshua already dashed out of the hospital room.
Once outside the hospital room, Miles Goodman’s handsome face instantly turned cold.
Once the anesthetic wore off, the pain in her fingers was unbearable.
Kiana was drenched in sweat from the pain, and it wasn’t until the doctor gave her a painkiller that she felt a bit better.
Suddenly, as if she remembered something, she jumped out of bed.
Just now, she’d been wondering if she’d offended someone and now they were taking revenge on Joshua.
But on second thought, anyone she’d offended would definitely go after her—not stop Joshua from taking his college entrance exam.
That left only one possibility: whoever gave Joshua the photos had a deep grudge against their whole family.
Plus, when Miles heard Joshua say it was a beautiful woman who had his classmate deliver the file, the look on his face seemed to freeze for a moment.
He didn’t react quite right, either. Otherwise, finding out someone was causing trouble, he’d have investigated the woman. But instead, he said nothing and hurried to send Joshua to school.
So, he must already know who that woman is? Or... he’s already gone to settle the score with her!
Kiana guessed right. After Miles heard the whole story from Joshua, the image he saw at the school gate flashed instantly in his mind.
He brought Joshua to a restaurant, ordered for him, and told him, "Joshua, I have something else to do later. After you eat, go to your exam like a good kid, don’t make your sister worry anymore."
Miles had helped their family so much, Joshua felt too embarrassed to trouble him further. "Yeah, thank you."
Miles grinned mischievously. "If you really want to thank me, call me ’brother-in-law’!"
Joshua: "..."
"Alright, I’ll stop teasing you. But, sooner or later you’ll have to call me that, so practice it when you have time!"
Miles left. Joshua stared at his retreating back and let out a long, heavy sigh.
If only sis hadn’t married Ethan Sinclair, how great would that be? There are so many good men in the world, why does it have to be Ethan?
Leaving the restaurant, Miles Goodman angrily dialed Stella Lyncg’s number.
Stella hadn’t expected Miles to call her—her voice was full of secret joy. "Ash, why are you suddenly calling me? Did you need something?"
"Where are you?"
"I’m at the hospital. Came to take a walk with my sister."
"Specifically, where?"
"Isn’t there a rose pavilion downstairs by the in-patient building? I’m just..."
Before she could finish, Miles hung up on her.
Hearing the busy tone, Stella pouted. "What’s his problem? Calling me, then hanging up on me."
Kate Lynch watched Stella and smiled. "What? Still haven’t confessed to Ash yet?"
Stella reacted like a cat whose tail had been stepped on, suddenly yelling, "I don’t even like him, why would I confess to him?"
"Really? Then who was it that said you’d only ever marry him?"
"That... that was just childish talk! He’s so immature, I..."
"Stella!"
Before she could finish, Miles’s voice rang out. Her heart skipped—a real surprise that he’d come look for her so fast.
She immediately tidied her hair and her clothes, then flashed a big, toothy smile at Miles. "Ash..."
But seeing Miles’s dark, ugly expression, her heart thudded. "What’s wrong?"
Miles glanced at Kate, but ignored her presence, and cut straight to the point, questioning Stella, "Did you go to Varden First High School this morning?"
Kate’s eyes flickered slightly—she stayed silent and watched quietly from the side.
Stella never expected Miles would seek her out for this reason.
"Recognize this file folder? You had someone give it to Joshua Sutton, right?"
The moment Stella saw the folder, her expression shifted. How did it end up in his hands?
"Talk!"
Stella was so startled by Miles’s shout her body trembled. Thinking he was interrogating her because of Kiana, anger surged in her chest. "Yeah, I did. So what?"
Miles was about to say something when he noticed Kiana not far away.
After Kiana left the ward, she saw Stella and Kate through the corridor’s glass window.
The view upstairs was better; she saw Miles come in from the entrance and head toward the rose pavilion. Once she was sure, she also went there.
Hearing Stella’s words, Kiana strode step by step toward her.
Miles was worried about her, and immediately walked toward her. "Didn’t the doctor tell you to rest? Why did you come down?"
Kiana ignored Miles and walked straight up to Stella.
Stella looked at Kiana’s bandaged fingers and her deathly pale complexion, then suddenly let out a mocking laugh. "Wow, is this the latest trend? Wrapping your fingers up like a mummy. Can you even use sign language anymore?"
"Kiana..."
Miles looked at Kiana with concern—afraid she’d do something reckless and hurt herself. "Kiana, let’s go back to your room."
Seeing how nervous Miles was about Kiana, Stella’s jealousy flared up and she snorted coldly. "Look at you. That idiot brother of yours must have rushed out to save you after seeing the file, but he was still too late, wasn’t he?"
As she spoke, Stella burst into wild laughter. "Guess it’s karma, huh? Your whole family ruined ours so badly even God couldn’t stand it anymore. Tch... that Desmond Grant is so useless. Why didn’t he just chop off your entire hand, then? If you, a mute, can’t talk or use your hands for sign language, you’ll be a complete cripple!"
Kiana glared at Stella, trembling all over.
"That beast of a father of yours can rot in prison forever. Your mom’s a gambling addict—sooner or later she’ll get killed. You’re a cripple, and your brother will never get into college—just a waste of air. Your whole family is doomed to misery..."
Before Stella could finish, Kiana used all her strength and slapped her hard across the face.
