Chapter 184: It Gets Easier

Seun🤍;

The air smells like wet grass and sweet fruit... the kind that drips down your wrist before you can swallow the first bite of the delectible sweetness.

I roll my head back and take a deep breath before turning to Elián, who’s walking beside me. His steps are light, and his eyes are fixed on my baby in his arms.

Anwil is tucked against his chest, asleep, with tiny fingers curled into Elián’s shirt as if Elián is comfort he’s not willing to let go of.

It’s fascinating how comfortable Anwil is with Elian. He never cries when Elian holds him, and it’s starting to seem like he’s recognising Elian.

I watch as Elian moves carefully, not even daring to breathe too loudly, as he doesn’t want to wake Anwil up, and my smile grows. Oh, how I’d love to see him have his own baby. He’ll make an impeccable parent. His child would be so lucky.

He has such a pure, massive heart. I just know he’ll give his baby all the love in the world.

The afternoon’s sunlight filters through the tall trees, creating scattered patterns of golden shards across the path, and I soak it all in as we walk.

However, he eventually breaks the silence.

"So... Koda told me... that his brothers are coming to attend the wedding." He says as he looks over at me, and I see worry in his eyes.

"I’m not sure I’m ready to face them, Seun." He confesses as he looks away.

"Of course, I didn’t tell him that, but it’s just... I wasn’t planning on facing them anytime soon, you know. I don’t know how I’m to behave in front of them..." He adds, and I hum quietly. Not to dismiss him, but to let him know I’m listening.

He adjusts Anwil’s blanket, and the worry in his expression grows.

"They bought me together, you know," He says after a pause, and my heart skips a beat.

"All five of them. I apparently belong to all of them. I don’t... I don’t know how they’ll react to me marrying Koda. Doesn’t this make things weird? I don’t even know if... if the marriage changes anything." He adds, and I look ahead.

For a second, I listen to the gravel crunching underfoot as I weigh my words.

"To be honest, the marriage doesn’t really change anything. " I answer truthfully, and he looks at me with his brows knitting.

"It... doesn’t?" He questions, and I look at him with a tight smile before nodding.

"Your marriage to Alpha Koda changes nothing, Elián," I reply matter-of-factly, and he blinks, as his lips part a little.

"Alpha Koda is a principled man. He knows you don’t want a baby out of wedlock, so..." I begin, but he cuts me off.

"Wait. So you’re saying... Koda is only marrying me because I mentioned it? Not... Not because he wants to?" He questions in rising panic, and I sigh, and I stare at his worried face.

"That’s not what I meant," I state quickly to clarify the misconception as I stop walking, and he does the same.

"Then... what did you mean?" He questions, and I stare at his worried face before taking a breath.

"Listen," I say gently. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

"Marriages are done for different reasons. Sometimes, to form alliances between clans. Other times, because two people love each other so deeply, they want the world to know. But..." I pause, choosing my words carefully.

"Marriage isn’t the only way to claim someone," I conclude, and he stares at me in confusion.

"I... I don’t understand." He replies, and I sigh.

"Even if you marry Alpha Koda," I begin, and he stares at me intently like I’m about to give him some survival tips.

"Even if you marry Alpha Koda, it only shows how much he loves you. It doesn’t mean you belong solely to him. You’ve been bought... by all five of them. They all see you as theirs. And it will stay that way whether you wear Alpha Koda’s crest or not." I reply, and his expression shifts.

His eyes fall from mine, and I watch them go distant... almost empty, as though I’ve pulled the ground from beneath him.

"So even if I get married to... and have a baby for Koda, I’ll still... belong to all of them?" He questions in a heartbreakingly soft tone, and I nod slowly.

"That’s how Alphas are. Territorial. Possessive. Once they’ve decided you’re theirs, no ceremony can undo that." I reply honestly, and he just stares at me.

"Oh..." He replies in a voice so small, it breaks my heart.

For a long time, he doesn’t say anything, and he just looks away.

I step closer to him and place a hand on his shoulder.

"It must be a difficult thing having to serve all five men. How are you holding up?" I speak, and he looks up with eyes suddenly regaining a new twinkle.

What? What did I say?

"No one’s ever asked me that before. Everyone usually acts like it’s such an honour to belong to all five of them. Like it’s... something to be proud of." He replies, as he lets out a hollow laugh, while holding on to Anwil a little tighter.

"No one’s ever asked how I feel about it." He adds, and I look at him... really look at him... the tremor in his fingers, the weight in his eyes that doesn’t belong to someone so pure.

He must be so scared... so overwhelmed by all this.

"Then let me ask," I say softly.

"How are you holding up, my dear friend? Belonging to five Alphas... that can’t be easy." I speak, and he smiles bitterly at me.

"It’s not." He replies, and the word hangs between us like a confession, raw and trembling.

Without a word more, I walk closer to him and wrap him in a hug.

"I know... but if it’s any reprieve... They’re good men at heart. Just... different from each other. With time, it’ll get much easier. And I can dare to hope that in a little while to come... you’d have gotten the hang of this. Hopefully, soon enough, you won’t be the one serving them... but they would be serving their precious omega." I speak, and he chuckles in my embrace.

"Till then, I’ve got your back in any way I can. I mean that." I add, and I feel him relax into the hug.

"Thank you, Seun." He whispers, and I smile.

"You’re welcome, brother."
