Chapter 185: I’m In Love With You

Alana🌸;

The corridor leading to Igma’s room smells exactly like her. There’s no mistaking that this whole space belongs to her. Her scent clings to the walls, like a voiceless territorial warning.

I pause when I get to her door and look down at my dress. It’s the brown one she noticed I like, and I even wore the earrings she gifted me.

Will she notice? Will it be too obvious that I’m trying to impress her?

I nervously dust the wrinkles off my dress even though I’ve done it three times already. My hands are trembling, and I don’t even know why.

Maybe it’s because I never quite know what to expect from Igma. She’s an Alpha... composed, powerful, commanding... yet somehow, she makes it seem like there’s so much more to her. So much more I’d love to find out.

Every time she looks at me, it feels like the world tilts a little... My feelings for her grow with every day, and just the mere thought that she might like me too gives me more happiness than it should.

I stare at the door and take a deep breath. I’d better knock now before I turn back in fear. I raise my hand to knock, but before I can, the door opens.

I freeze when I come face-to-face with Alpha Igma, and I instantly feel my cheeks pick up heat.

"Alana," she greets in excitement, and the way her voice wraps around my name makes my stomach flutter.

"H-hii," I reply sheepishly, and she smiles at me while I take her in.

She’s dressed in dark, maroon velvet pants and a loose black top today. Her hair is in one braid and falls loosely behind her. She looks like a dream. How is she so beautiful??

"The earrings suit you." She notes, and I can’t hide my blush as I look away from her.

She noticed them.

"Thank you," I reply, and with a gentle smile, she steps aside to let me in.

"I was starting to think you wouldn’t come." She says as I walk past her, and I stare at my feet as she shuts the door.

"I almost didn’t," I admit as I play with he patterns on my dress.

"I thought you might be busy again," I add before looking at her, and her lips twitch at my words, as a shadow of guilt crosses her eyes.

"I was... but I made room for you tonight." She says with a bright smile as she takes my hand and pulls me after her.

The moment I look up, the room steals my breath away. The curtains are down, the lights are dim, and a soft, golden glow comes from the dozens of candles arranged around a small table in the centre.

The table itself is set for two... polished goblets, silverware that gleams, and a vase of fresh red lilies that perfume the air.

It looks so romantic and meticulously done. Did she do this herself??

"I spent the whole morning arranging it. What do you think?" She says, almost like she heard my thoughts, and my eyes widen as I turn to her.

"You did all this??" I ask in disbelief, and she nods proudly.

"By yourself!?" I add, and she grins.

"Down to the food." She replies, and my eyes move back to the decorated room.

All this... for me??

"Wow," I breathe, as I stare at the beautiful perfection of everything.

"You... really went all out," I add, and she smiles at me.

"I wanted it to be special," She replies as she walks over to the table. I watch her pull out a chair for me, and she does a soft curtsy.

"My lady..." She says, and I feel heat burst to life in my cheek as her ocean blue eyes look up at me.

I hesitate before walking over to her. She takes my hand and helps me sit, and my pulse starts pounding in my ears as she pushes the chair in while her hand brushes lightly against my shoulder.

Her touch sets something ablaze inside me... but I don’t know what it is. I’ve never felt this way around anyone before.

My feet start patting against the ground nervously, and I feel my ears flatten against my head.

"Sorry I couldn’t meet you the night I said we should meet," She begins as she sits opposite me, and I look up at her through my lashes.

The candle’s golden light glorifies her beautiful dark skin and blue hair as she reaches for a bottle.

"King Wilhelm asked for a meeting with my father and me. I couldn’t decline." She adds, and I look down at my hands as they find the end of my braid under the table.

"It’s alright," I say softly as I start playing with the end of my braid.

"You’re an Alpha. You have a lot on your plate... I understand." I reply, and she sighs.

"I know, but still..." She begins but trails off. I find her looking down at her plate before lifting her gaze back to me.

"I didn’t want to have to wait this long to tell you what I have to. I mean.. You’re travelling with Rhydian and the others to Gravemaw tonight." She adds, and I blink at her.

She sounds... nervous. Igma is never nervous. She’s always collected, always in control... the kind of woman whose silence makes people straighten their spines. I mean, this woman trains soldiers. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

But now...she looks different. Softer somehow. Almost timid. Like she’s standing on a cliff, deciding whether to jump.

"What was the meeting about?" I ask, hoping to relieve some of the tension in her shoulders, and she exhales.

"It was about Howleroot. Since King Wilhelm and Rhydian will all be travelling to Gravemaw for the wedding, he decided to leave Howleroot under my care. My father will assist me until you all return." She replies, and my eyes widen.

"Wow... that’s a huge responsibility out of the blue," I note honestly, and she nods,

"It is," she agrees quietly.

"But I can handle it." She adds, and I smile.

Of course, she can. She has so much potential, and I’ve always known she was a star in need of an opportunity to glow.

"I’m proud of you," I say sincerely, as I smile at her.

"If anyone can handle that, it’s you," I add, and her lips part in surprise, a massive smile splits her face, and I smile back.

"Thank you," she whispers.

"That means more than you think." She adds, and I just blink back.

I drop my gaze back to my lap, and she reaches forward and uncovers the dish in front of me.

I look up, and I’m welcomed by the sight of freshly cooked rice, delightful smelling broth to go with, as well as some fresh bread.

"I didn’t know what you’d like and what you wouldn’t... So I just made all I knew to make best." She says, and I smile at her effort.

Without a word, I take the first bite, and she watches me closely. I remain silent as I keep eating, and she hesitantly starts eating her food as well.

We eat in silence for a while. The food is good... all of it. However, I can hardly taste any of it. My senses are too aware of her.

The curve of her wrist as she reaches for her glass. The way her pretty blue hair catches the candlelight.

The depth in her eyes every time they find mine...

There’s something about her today that... I can’t quite place. Why does she seem so on edge?

"Alana," she calls suddenly, and my heart jumps.

"Yes?" I reply, looking at her through my lashes, and her gaze drops to her hands.

Her fingers clasped tightly together, and for the first time since I’ve known her, she looks... unsure.

"There’s something I need to tell you," she says softly, and my throat instantly runs dry. "Something I’ve been meaning to say for a long time." She adds, and I bite the inside of my cheek as panic starts bubbling inside me.

"Wh-What is it?" I stutter, and she looks up. Goodness! Her eyes are twinkling like there’s stardust trapped in them.

"I like you," she says, voice trembling ever so slightly, and my heart pauses.

"No... I love you." She corrects, and my eyes grow wide.

"Wh...at?" I stutter, unable to stop the word from slipping past my lips, and she takes a deep breath.

"I’m in love with you, Alana." She replies as she looks up at me, and I stay frozen.

I can’t speak. My throat seals shut, and all I can do is stare at her, because this... this has to be a dream. I’m dreaming, right??

She takes a breath, and her next words come softer.

"I didn’t want you to leave for Gravemaw without knowing. I couldn’t let you go on thinking that what I feel is just kindness or friendship. It’s not. I’ve tried to pretend I could handle it, but every time you walk up to me, or even smile at me, everything else stops making sense." She adds, and my mouth falls open.

"You... love me?"
