I scan the area with my eyes, and pause when I don’t find anybody. This is where Koda said I should meet him.

Near the bed of roses a little distance from our hut.

Did he stand me up?

I can’t believe he stood me up!

What was I expecting? He’s always busy these last few days. Doesn’t spend time with me as much, no longer stays to make sure I eat, doesn’t pester me about getting out of bed... It’s almost like something else has taken hold of his mind.

Did he forget we have a date!?

I was really looking forward to spending time with him! I didn’t even get to play with Anwil much or chat properly with Seun and Kishan because I kept waiting for the sun to go down so I could come and meet Koda.

And he stood me up. Yes, there’s no phone here for him to have messaged to tell me plans changed, but that’s the point! Plans shouldn’t have changed! He shouldn’t have given me high hopes for nothing.

I’m not going to talk to him the next time I see him!

I turn around in annoyance, ready to march off, but I yelp when I bump into someone.

I stagger back and am about to fall when strong arms wrap around me.

I look at who just saved me, and to my surprise, it’s Koda.

"You..." I begin, and he smiles.

"You didn’t really think I would stand you up, did you?" He questions, and I pout as I stare at him.

He smiles, and without warning, he scoops me up. He holds me up with one hand as his other hand strokes my cheek.

"Did you have fun with the Shannas?" He asks, and even though he asks like I’m a baby, I nod in response and he smiles.

"Good." He replies, and I feel a blush heat my cheek.

"You smell divine tonight. Your scent’s gotten stronger." He says, and I blink at him.

"It has?" I question in honest curiosity as I try to sniff myself, but as usual, I can’t smell anything.

"You must be tired from walking all the way here. I have an idea on how to get you to our spot much easier." He then says, and I raise a brow.

"What idea?" I question as he sets me down, and he smirks at me.

"A bear ride." He says, and just like that, that now familiar puff of brown smoke surrounds him.

In less than a second, he transforms into a blonde, grizzly bear. I smile as I stare at the fluffy, adorable creature.

"You want me to get on your back?" I question and he grunts as he gently nudges my side with his snout.

I move to his side, and he lies lower for me to get on. I manage to hoist myself onto him, and I grab fistfuls of his fur, however, I’m too scared to hold on tightly.

I don’t want to hurt him.

I inhale sharply when he moves to stand properly on all fours. He looks back at me and the look in his massive, golden eyes seems like an order.

"You’d better hold on for dear life," Elien says, and I obey immediately.

Just then, like a cannonball, Koda begins to sprint into the woods - Not giving my body time to decide if to enjoy or fear this moment.

The air hits me hard as Koda’s speed makes me slice through it. It feels like a roller coaster ride.

I squint my eyes open, as we dash past trees, rivers and flowerbeds.

I stare in awe as the woods seem to make way for Koda. A smile crawls onto my face, and I decide to enjoy this.

I mean, who else can say "I once rode on a bear’s back in the woods, and I loved it!"?

I lean forward, hugging Koda from behind as he sprints, and I shut my eyes again. I relish the feeling of the delicate fur brushing against my skin, and the pure, earthy scent of him fills my lungs as I relish his scent.

I can’t believe I wanted to run from this. This... is the life!

Fun, free, happy... Although he’s half a beast, he’s more of a man than most of the men I know. I’m glad I got to meet him.

Glad I got to know him. Glad he didn’t give up on me!

If this is what love is... then I never want to fall out of it. Koda and I against the fucking world! It’s more than I could ask for.

"Woo-hoo!!" I scream into the night, and Koda grunts in response.

I chuckle and lean closer into him as he keeps running.

Soon, we make it to a clearing, right beside a river, and Koda slows to a stop.

I stare at the beautiful space. There’s a small tent... a little mat with baskets I presume is filled with food, and bottles I can only hope are filled with palm wine!

I slide off Koda’s back, and I stare at the flowers on the floor, and I smile.

And I thought he wasn’t romantic.

Koda moves behind me, and I watch the massive bear move towards the river.

He gets in and settles himself in the shallow river, sitting comfortably.

I stare in awe at the bear and I begin to walk over to him. I sit at the edge of the river in a meditation position and I rest my chin on my woven fingers as I stare at him.

He’s beautiful! Even as a bear! Ugh! This man would be the death of me! I’m pretty sure if I were in a manga, I’d be having a nosebleed right now.

The puff of brown clouds appears again, and as it clears, Koda is back in his human form.

Sweaty, and oh! So fucking sexy!!

Oof!!

"Did you like the ride?" He questions as he runs his fingers through his hair from the front to the back, and something about watching him do that sets my skin on fire.

"Mm-hmm. We should do it again sometime." I reply, and he smirks.

"I was afraid you wouldn’t like it. I’m glad you did." He replies and I grin.

I stare at him, and my heart flutters when his golden eyes lock on mine.

How is this man so gorgeous!! And why does it feel like I’m just seeing him for the first time?? My heart is beating so fast, my palms are sweating, and my thoughts are going haywire!

"Could you please get me a krompa from the tent?" He speaks, and then it hits me.

My eyes immediately dart down to the water where he’s submerged waist deep, and my mouth runs dry.

I look back up at him, and he’s staring at me with a raised brow.

"You’re naked in there, aren’t you?"
