Chapter 148: His Heat

Koda;

"So you want the space to be decorated with only polygalas?" Rowan questions in bewilderment, and I pause to think.

"No. Not only polygalas. Mostly polygalas." I correct, and he blinks at me.

"But Gravemaw has a wide range of flowers. Why pick just..."

"Because Elián likes them. He made fifty garlands with only polygalas." I note, and Rowan blinks at me. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

"Oh. So... would you like the colour of the day to be purple as well?" He questions, and I can’t decide if he’s being serious or if he’s teasing me.

I look up and spot Elián walking out of our hut with a small item wrapped in cloth in his hands.

"We’ll get back to this. Excuse me for now." I say to Rowan as I get up from in front of his hut and move over to Elián, who looks like he’s heading somewhere.

"Elián?" I call as soon as I’m close to our hut, and he whips around so fast he almost falls.

"Jesus Christ, Koda! You almost gave me a heart attack!" He scolds, and I stop when I’m just a little distance away from him.

"Sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you. I, uh... where are you going?" I reply, and he smiles happily at me.

"To the Shanna’s hut. I want to see Anwil and give him Mr Feathers." He replies brightly as he proudly holds up the wrapped item to me, and I raise a brow as I take it from him.

I inspect it, and that’s when I realise what it is. The toy we made.

"Mr Feathers?" I question, and he nods excitedly.

"Mm-hm. Because he’s made of feathers." He replies as he takes the toy back from me, and I smile at him.

I close the gap between us, and he stares up at me with his innocent, big, pure eyes.

"Will you come with?" He questions, and I take my fingers to his cheek as I gently run the back of my index finger against it.

"Do you want me to?" I question, and he nods.

"Yeah. We can tell Seun we made the doll together." He replies, and I smile.

As much as I’d love to tag along with him and spend time with him... right now, I’m busy planning our wedding. Every minute matters.

I take his hands and stare at his face as I speak.

"I’d love to tag along, but I have business to attend to." I say, and his face falls.

He pouts and huffs before taking his hands from mine.

"Fine." He says as he crosses his arm across his chest and looks away from me, and just from the way he said it, I know nothing is fine.

"You’re not upset, are you?" I question in bewilderment, and he scowls at me before looking away.

"I’m not." He lies, and I smile as I wrap an arm around his waist.

"You’re not?" I push, but he ignores me.

"Smile for me then." I add, and he glares up at me.

"Go on..." I press, and his eyes narrow.

He gives me a forced, boxy smile, and I can’t help my chuckle. This little man.

"You are upset." I laugh, and he huffs again as he lifts his nose to the air.

"How do I make it up to you?" I question, and he puts and lifts his nose higher.

"How about dinner? This evening... at my spot. We can have and do whatever you want. I’ll be done with work by then." I say, and only then does he look at me through the side of his eyes.

"You promise?" He whispers, and I pull him closer to myself as I brush his hair away from his eyes.

"I promise." I reply, and he smiles at me.

"Fine then. It’s a date. You better not stand me up!" He warns as he points at me, and I chuckle.

"I wouldn’t dare." I whisper, and I see a small smile tug at his lips. I gently tilt his chin, and I lock my lips with his in a tender kiss.

Opposed to his usual self, he doesn’t push me away. Instead, I feel him step closer to me as he kisses me back. I break the kiss, and his cheeks are rosy red now.

I smile at him, and he shyly looks away.

"You can’t be kissing me like that in public." He whispers, and I raise a brow.

"Would you like it better in private, then?" I whisper back, and he gasps as he looks up at me with wide eyes.

I smirk at him, and he pushes me away.

"You’re such a perv!" He scolds, and I laugh as he turns his back on me.

"I’m going. You’d better be done with your work by this evening. And I want apple pie!" He calls as he makes his way through the rocks on the ground, and I smile as I watch him leave.

"Have fun!" I call after him, and he turns back to me with a huge smile.

His eyes scream gratitude, and seeing that smile on his face is like a hug to my heart. So real, so pure. I want to see him like this every time.

He turns back around, and as I watch him leave, my mind stays with him.

I have this wedding plan right? Everything has to be perfect for him. For now, it’ll be something small, because it’s a necessity.

We’d have a proper wedding where all the kingdoms will be present in due time. But for now, I sense that he wants to be with me, and I’d be damned if I make him wait unnecessarily.

I also need to mark him. His heat is fast approaching. I can sense it. His scent has gotten stronger, and he has this glow to him. This glow that only comes to Omegas right before either heat arrives.

Leaving an omega like him unmarked during his heat would be very risky for him. I’m not willing to take such a risk.

Without being in heat, his scent and pheromones are already so strong. If his heat starts without him being marked...

I see the way people look at him. Men and women alike.

They don’t mean to, but they can’t help it either. Omega’s pheromones were crafted to attract. And pheromones as strong as Elian’s is bound to cause chaos if not contained.

The people keep their cool because they respect Mother and me, and because in Gravemaw, we do not treat Omegas like items.

However... I’m afraid of the chaos that would follow when these already threatening pheromones heighten during his heat. That’s why I have to mark him before then.

I need to.
