He Got Engaged to His First Love On the Day I Died-Chapter 59: Forcing Me to Do You in the Car?
Natalie Morgan lightly lifted her eyelids, a trace of bitterness welling up in her heart. "You set the trap, and you’re the one kicking me out. What should I thank you for? For the ’mercy’ of sparing my life?"
He scoffed. "I’m giving you a chance to repay my kindness."
"Theodore Grant, what are you planning now?"
Theodore Grant nonchalantly said to the driver, "To Crestview Hospital."
’Crestview Hospital?’
’My mother...’
"What did you do to my mom?"
"You’ll know when you see for yourself."
He glanced at her coldly. ’She hasn’t taken a single one of my promises to heart.’
How could Natalie Morgan not have taken it to heart?
It was just that this man was too temperamental, too accustomed to going back on his word. How much could she really trust him?
Natalie Morgan’s emotions were in turmoil.
She suppressed the tightness in her chest until the car pulled up to the main entrance of Crestview Hospital.
The hospital’s name had changed. It was no longer Crestview Hospital, but Mercy Hospital.
’A cold and heartless man, using a hospital to "save the world."’
’How ironic.’
As she entered the inpatient building, she ran into Dr. Carter. Natalie Morgan quickened her pace. "Dr. Carter."
"Miss Morgan, you’re here."
"My mom... how is she?"
Dr. Carter gestured for her to calm down. "The application for that project we discussed has been submitted, but it will take some time to get it restarted. However, the hospital has acquired a new, advanced drug that just became available overseas. We’ve already started your mother on it, and the results are good. Once the project resumes, she can be enrolled immediately."
Natalie Morgan nodded along with his explanation.
’But...’
’A drug that just came on the market overseas?’
’It must be expensive.’
"This medicine is very expensive, isn’t it?"
"It is indeed not cheap." Dr. Carter wanted Natalie Morgan to be mentally prepared. "A single pill costs one hundred thousand. For a patient with your mother’s condition, she’ll need to take at least three pills a month. If we have to wait until the project restarts, she’ll likely need to take three to five."
’Three hundred to five hundred thousand a month?’
’Where would she get that kind of money?’
"Dr. Carter, how many pills has my mom taken?"
"She’s already taken two."
’Two pills. That’s two hundred thousand.’
’I can’t afford that.’
"Dr. Carter, if my mom stops taking this medicine now, will her life be in danger?"
"It’s hard to say for sure."
It was a difficult decision for Natalie Morgan, but it was one she had to make.
She didn’t have that kind of money to pay for the medication.
’At worst, things will just go back to how they were. As long as Mom is alive.’
"Dr. Carter, let’s stop the medication. Please move my mother to a regular ward. I don’t have the money. I really can’t afford it."
"Well..." Dr. Carter was in a difficult position. "...Are you sure you want to do that?"
"Yes."
"Alright," Dr. Carter agreed.
Just then, Theodore Grant walked over. "Continue with the normal treatment. I’ll cover the costs."
Dr. Carter was stunned.
Natalie Morgan looked at Theodore Grant and said mockingly, "Is Mr. Grant afraid my mother’s organs won’t be healthy enough for Wanda Lynch’s transplant?"
"You could interpret it that way." He didn’t deny her accusation.
"I will never agree to you transplanting my mother’s organs. Not unless I’m dead."
Natalie Morgan stood firm in her refusal.
"Then pull her oxygen tube, too. End it all at once," Theodore Grant said, looking at Dr. Carter.
Dr. Carter was speechless.
"You..." Natalie Morgan raised her hand to slap Theodore Grant, but he caught her wrist. "...Didn’t you say she doesn’t need treatment? Once she’s dead, she won’t need it at all."
She glared at him, her eyes bloodshot. After a tense standoff, she wrenched her hand free and turned to leave.
The man stood his ground, spat a curse, and then chased after her, furious.
Just as she was about to walk past the car, he grabbed her wrist and forcibly shoved her inside.
"You’re a small woman with a big temper."
"Theodore Grant, I’m telling you, I will never agree! Don’t even think about it!" Her eyes blazed with fire, her fingertips trembling. "If you really push me too far, I’ll kill you and Wanda Lynch both."
The man suddenly laughed.
It was a twisted, sick laugh, filled with contempt for her anger.
"Natalie Morgan, getting bold, are we? Thinking you can kill people now?" He grabbed her wrist, pulling her toward him, his large hand gripping her waist. "You should be glad I don’t decide to kill you first."
Tears of injustice welled up in her eyes, making her look pitifully helpless.
Disappointment, despair, hopelessness—she hated him with every fiber of her being.
"You promised me. You promised you wouldn’t touch my mom."
The man’s Adam’s apple bobbed, and his voice softened. "If you know I made a promise, then why are you throwing a tantrum?"
She covered her face with her hands and began to cry, her sobs suppressed.
Her slender shoulders shook with each sob, like a leaf trembling in the wind.
He raised a hand to stroke her hair, just about to offer a few words of comfort.
But Natalie Morgan shoved him away. "Don’t touch me."
The man’s face instantly turned cold. He grabbed her wrist again, forcibly pulling her into his arms. "Natalie Morgan, you’re my wife. I can do whatever I want to you."
With that, he seized her chin and lowered his head to kiss her.
The kiss was anything but beautiful.
He kissed, she bit. The salty, coppery taste of their mixed blood filled their mouths.
Theodore Grant raised a hand to wipe his broken lip, taking a couple of sharp breaths. "Do you really want me to take you right here in the car?"
"Theodore Grant, you’re a damn sicko."
"Didn’t you shamelessly beg to marry me back then? Wasn’t it because you liked this ’damn sicko’?" He pushed her down under him, completely ignoring the driver in the front seat. "Natalie Morgan, you’d better start behaving. Or else..."
"Or else what?" she shot back defiantly.
"You know what I’m capable of." He finally let her go, straightening his suit. "I hope you don’t force me to go back on the decision I’ve made."
’In the end, it was still a threat.’
Natalie Morgan forced herself to calm down.
She wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes and swallowed her pride. "I’ll pay you back for my mom’s medical expenses."
"Suit yourself."
"I hope you keep your word, Mr. Grant."
"That depends on your behavior."
She stared ahead blankly, her tone icy. "I want to go back to my apartment."
"Whatever."
The car drove along the main roads of Riverden.
When they arrived at the studio apartment, the car stopped, and Natalie Morgan got out.
The car didn’t drive away immediately. The window rolled down, and he watched her back until she disappeared into the building. Only then did he lift a finger. "To the hospital."
"Yes, Mr. Grant."
「In a hospital room.」
Wanda Lynch was yelling at the housekeeper.
"What do you take me for, a dog or a cat? Is this food for humans?"
On the floor was the fish maw and chicken soup, velvet-white mushrooms, and bird’s nest soup the housekeeper had so carefully prepared. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
’If these aren’t fit for human consumption, what on earth does she want to eat?’
The housekeeper felt a surge of resentment, but she didn’t dare look up from the scolding, simply apologizing over and over. "Miss Lynch, please just tell me what you’d like to eat. I’ll go prepare it for you."
"Mrs. Wallace, I am the mistress of this house. What do you think the mistress of the house should be eating?" Wanda Lynch said, putting on airs.
Just then, Theodore Grant pushed open the door to the hospital room and walked in...
