Chapter 99: Family Reunion & Rejection

Audrey sat in the dining, slowly eating her food and staring at everyone at the table.

After Mark had proved his magical ability, Sebastian had come in to discuss something with Alpha Lake and Mark.

Both Alphas pretended like they hadn’t wanted to cut each other’s throat earlier that day.

Audrey had paused their conversation, and she had dragged Maria to the kitchen; it was time for lunch, and she was starving.

She silently ate her food, looking from one person to the other, she stopped at Alpha Lake and suddenly remembered the conversation she had with him on his balcony when she had given him the box that had the pictures and letters; he had told her that he’ll never mate her because he’ll only see her as a sister, so, does it mean they’re stepcousins now?

Alpha Lake felt someone staring at him and raised his head to find the familiar green eyes of his mate staring thoughtfully at him. He felt her troubled mind and he felt her indecisiveness.

"Are you alright, Kitten?" Alpha Lake asked.

His question caused everyone to look toward Audrey, silently waiting for her to say what the problem was because they could also see the worry marked on her face.

Audrey saw everyone looking at her and cleared her throat, slightly shaking her head. She had unconsciously let her thoughts bother others.

"Chill guys, I’m fine," Audrey lowered her face to her plate and stuffed her mouth with food to stop them from questioning her further. The discussion was just between her and the Alpha.

After eating, Alpha Sebastian decided to leave and go back to his pack, saying he had things to do.

"Thanks for the food, sweetcheeks," Alpha Sebastian said, pecking Audrey’s cheek.

"Don’t," Mark said quietly, holding back Alpha Lake who wanted to go and drag his mate away from Alpha Sebastian and maybe land him a punch or two.

"Bye, Seb," Audrey waved and closed the door.

She sighed and slowly turned to face her ’family’, not knowing what to do next with them.

"What’s next?" She asked.

"How about we clear the air?" Maria asked.

Audrey nodded and walked back to the living room, sitting on one of the sofas.

"What can you do?" She questioned Mark.

Mark chuckled, "How about I tell you what I can’t do?" He asked.

"He can’t do anything, Kitten. Why not send him away already, I need to discuss something with you...personally," Alpha Lake came and sat beside her, placing his hand on her thigh and slowly sliding it up to her center.

But Audrey caught his hand before he could reach her.

He got more shameless with each passing moment.

"Stop it," She slapped his hand away, eyeing him angrily.

"Please, go on," She said to Mark, genuinely interested.

Mark nodded and cleared his throat, "I’m not a healer, I don’t astral project, I don’t see or feel premonitions, I won’t resurrect the dead, I-"

"Telekinesis, teleportation, and warding," Maria interrupted impatiently, rolling her eyes at Mark.

"Those are his powers?" Audrey asked.

"Yes," Maria nodded.

Mark simply shrugged.

Audrey was quiet for a while, making everyone worried. Alpha Lake gently took her hand in his, massaging the inside of her wrist to comfort her.

"We have a war coming soon," Audrey said to Mark.

Alpha Lake stared at her in shock. What war was she talking about?

Mark frowned at the information. He didn’t understand what Audrey meant by telling him that.

He’s lived his whole life as a normal human, Miranda tried her best to keep him away from the fantasy world, only letting him visit her once a year. He was clueless about the war Audrey was talking about.

"He doesn’t know," Maria informed Audrey.

"I see. He’ll know now," She stood and went to stand in front of Mark.

"You must have heard about the historical stories of the first witch ever?" Audrey questioned.

"Sure, Catherine, wife and mate to Alpha King Mikhail," Mark replied accurately.

Audrey nodded, looking over at Alpha Lake and seeing the realization wash over his face.

She thought maybe this was the best time to make him understand the whole story.

"Correct. I am Catherine Mikhail, the first and most powerful witch on earth," Audrey introduced.

Mark stared at her unbelievably, his facial expression showing shock. He wanted to question her how possible that was, but he knew he would sound stupid. He’d read books about their kind, and he knew that reincarnation was real.

Thinking about it, Audrey did look like the pictures of Catherine he used to see as a teenager. How did he never think about it before? maybe that’s why he felt a certain connection toward her the first time he saw her at Russell’s company. Now, he understood that it wasn’t love; it was a familiarity to her as a fellow witch and a family member.

"It’s an honor," Mark slightly bowed his head to her.

"No need to do that, Mark, we’re family," Audrey smiled.

Alpha Lake sat there, recalling all those visions he saw in the garden. Things were starting to make sense to him now.

He stared at Audrey and remembered all those times he did horrible things to her and felt very angry at himself. He recalled he was the one who had cried to the moon goddess to bring them together in another life, yet, when it happened, he became so stupid and treated her awfully instead of accepting his true feelings for her.

He started feeling undeserving of her love, but he was determined to prove to her that he was changed and repentant of his actions. He was going to make her see that she was the most important person in his life.

He was never letting go this time. Not unless death separated them.

"Just like the story said, I was killed by my mate, but that’s not the whole story," Audrey said and slowly paced the living room.

Alpha Lake felt bad hearing how the history of witches portrayed him as the wicked king who killed his queen and their creator.

"I was set up by my younger sister who was jealous of my powers. She needed to get hold of my enchanted amulet so she could become the most powerful witch, but her plan failed," Audrey returned beside Alpha Lake and then continued her story.

"Unfortunately, when Mikhail found out I was set up by my sister and his brother who wanted to be the Alpha king then..." Audrey narrowed her eyes at Mark.

"No, no, don’t look at me that way, I’m not kind of that brother," Mark shook his head at Audrey.

He now felt awkward for having jokingly challenged his brother about taking the Alpha title from him an hour ago.

Audrey smiled, "I know."

"So, how did he end up killing you if he knew you were being set up by your sister and brother?" Maria asked, she too was eager to know the whole story.

"Ah, I was just stupid I guess. I stood in front of her to protect her when he wanted to kill her, so... you can guess what happened," Audrey shrugged.

"So, he killed you instead?" Mark asked an obvious question.

"Mm," Audrey nodded.

"Hey, Kitten, I’m sorry," Alpha Lake spoke gently beside her, his face looked tortured.

Audrey shook her head at him, "Don’t waste your apology on something that happened centuries ago and it wasn’t even your fault," Audrey patted his lap, smiling up at him mischievously.

"Rather, think about how you’re going to apologize for what you did in the present which is completely your fault," She raised a brow at him and removed her hand from his lap.

Alpha Lake’s face fell. He knew it, he knew that it was going to be hard for Audrey to forgive him, and he feared she might never forgive him. This was the reason he hadn’t marked her; he didn’t need to be told before he would know that she wasn’t going to let him mark her as his because of his past treatment of her.

"Audrey-"

"Save it, Lake, I’m glad you’ve finally realized we can’t be together," Audrey simply said and crossed her elegant legs together.

Mark shared a concerned look with Maria, then looked back at the troubled couple.

He suddenly snapped his finger like he just remembered something important.

"What’s it?" Audrey asked

"Now I remember, you’re the supposed human girl he hated but couldn’t let go," Mark said, sending Alpha Lake the ’you’re dead’ look.

Audrey frowned and looked from Alpha Lake to Mark, wondering what Mark could possibly be talking about.

"What do you mean?" Audrey questioned.

"Mark, don’t," Alpha Lake warned in a deathly tune.

But Mark was determined to push his brother under the bus.

"Well, he always kept texting me about you, complaining about how he hated you, and when I told him to let you go, he said he’ll never let you go. And he also said that even if you had a wolf, he would still hate you," Mark reported proudly, smirking at his brother.

This was how they were; others might have tried to plead on behalf of their brothers, but not this duo; Mark knew Alpha Lake would do worse if he were in the same position.

Audry scoffed and turned her face to Alpha Lake, "Don’t worry, Mark, in the end, I’m just his adopted sister and distant cousin; we were not meant to be," Audrey stood as she remembered his words to her.

He had told her numerous times before that he would never mate her even if she were the last she-wolf on earth; he had also told her that she would only remain his adopted sister and nothing more.

All those words resurfaced in her head and, coupled with the memories of the way he had treated her in the past, made her make a solid decision at that moment.

Alpha Lake sensed the shift in her emotions and felt his wolf becoming restless and scared, and it scared him. Regal was never scared. Restless? Yes. But never scared.

He stood up and walked over to Audrey but she raised her hand before her, stopping him from getting close to her.

Audrey’s heart was heavy, but she still did what she wanted to do.

"I Audrey, from the Grey Blood Pack, reject you, Alpha Aloha Lake of the Grey Blood Pack as my mate," Audrey said in a determined voice
