Hated By The Alpha-Chapter 100: The name quest
Maria gasped loudly; she never imagined their little conversation was going to end up that way; she turned to Mark and saw him looking unconcerned through his phone; she glared at him, blaming him for the turn of events, if he had only kept his big mouth shut, none if this would have happened.
She slowly looked toward Alpha Lake; she’d heard that getting rejected by one’s mate could be life-threatening, but when she looked at Alpha Lake’s face, he was fucking smirking at an angry Audrey.
Maybe Audrey was right in rejecting him; now he was showing his true colors, and he couldn’t even pretend to be bothered by her rejection.
What a scum!
Audrey closed her eyes, waiting for the bone-crippling pain to pull her down to the ground but nothing happened. The only thing she felt was Avery’s whiny voice giving her an earful for trying to reject their hot and sexy mate.
She was surprised at that. Why was Avery thinking she was still ’trying’ to reject him? She just did! That’s exactly what she did a few seconds ago.
She had rejected him, or were they lying about how painful breaking a mate’s bond was? 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
Alpha Lake was still smirking as he gently grabbed her arm, turning her to face him. He knew Audrey was also feeling the tingles from his touch, he was trying to prove to her that they were and would always remain mates.
He knew what she had missed, but he would be the biggest fool to point her mistake out to her.
"Why?" Audrey whispered to herself, turning to look at Maria, who was staring at her with obvious concern.
"Do you need me to take you away from here? We can return to the Coven," Maria stood and walked toward her.
"Chill, chipmunk," Mark suddenly dragged Maria back to the sofa.
"Ouch!" Maria rubbed her leg again; she had hit the same spot on the table again.
"Why do I still feel the mate bond?" Audrey quietly asked Alpha Lake.
Alpha Lake smiled and lifted her face from her chin, "Because we’re made for each other," He suddenly kissed her lips, making her brain forget the situation at hand for a few seconds.
Audrey snapped out of it and put some distance between them.
"This is wrong," She said with a frown.
"Aha! Found it," Mark suddenly said.
"It’s indeed wrong," Mark stood and read out from his screen.
"Mark, I’m warning you this time, do not tempt my patience," Alpha Lake’s voice turned murderous as he walked toward Mark with anger obvious on his face.
"Let him," Audrey grabbed his hand, bringing him back beside her.
"Audrey, please," Alpha Lake begged urgently, clasping her hand in his.
"Right. Well, it’s nothing serious, it just says here that for a rejection to work, one must mention their full name while rejecting his or her mate, and then, the rejected, which is you, my dear brother..." He pointed his finger to Alpha Lake before he casually continued reading from his phone.
"The rejected has to accept the rejection before the mate bond would officially be severed," Mark finished and looked up at Audrey with a paused lip.
"You said full name?" Audrey asked and looked over at Maria.
"Yes, Great one, your full name in this present life," Mark nodded.
Audrey went quiet for a long time as it finally dawned on her that she had missed adding her last name.
She racked her brain for any atom of information about her father’s name, but she ended up with nothing; from the stories she heard while growing up in the pack, her mother had killed her father before she was even born.
There was no way she would know who he was or what his name was.
"Audrey!" Maria screamed, drawing Audrey out of her thoughts.
Audrey looked toward Maria to find Alpha Lake pinning Mark to the wall with his sharp fangs bared.
"Lake, stop," Audrey said but it seemed like rage was blocking Alpha Lake’s ears.
She got so frustrated with everything and didn’t even realize that her wolf had already surfaced, "Stop!" She growled.
Alpha Lake instantly released Mark and appeared beside Audrey in the next second.
He had made his mate angry, which was the last thing he wanted to do.
"I’m sorry, Kitten," He engulfed Audrey in a desperately tight hug.
"I’m so sorry for everything; please, don’t reject me, don’t reject us; I can’t leave with it," Alpha Lake begged, his voice cracking as he hurried his nose in her hair, sniffing in her comforting lavender scent.
"Chill, bro, she can’t reject you," Mark said, still rubbing his neck from the fight between him and Alpha Lake.
"Can you not?" Maria glared at him, ready to fight him this time if he said something provocating again.
"Calm down, little sis, I’ve just been trying to prove a point to him," He raised his hand in surrender; he didn’t want to make his scary little chipmunk angrier than she was already.
Audrey subtly pushed Alpha Lake away from herself; he didn’t follow her; he knew she needed her space at that moment.
He remembered what Mark had just said and gave him a quizzical look.
Mark smiled, "You always told me how her mother killed her father before she was born, and the only people who would have known her father were our father and your mother."
"And?" Alpha Lake asked.
Audrey was now standing beside the door, she needed to leave that space as soon as possible for her sanity. But she also wanted to hear why Mark thought she couldn’t reject his brother.
Whatever it took, she would do it.
"And now, she can’t reject you because she doesn’t know her father’s name. The rejection can never take effect with just a first name," Mark sighed and walked over to Alpha Lake, patting his shoulder.
"Now, it’s left for you to change her mind from going on a quest to find her father’s name, am I right, Audrey?" Mark turned his face to Audrey.
"Damn right, Mark. Thanks for the information," Audrey smirked at Alpha Lake and left the room.
From now, she was now on a quest to find her father’s name.
Inside the living room, Maria slowly stood from the sofa, feeling awkward with the whole situation.
In a way, she was glad the rejection didn’t take effect; she feared Alpha Lake might turn monstrous from the pain and force everyone to reject their mates just so they’d be in syncing melancholy with him.
She just had to find a way to talk Audrey out of her new name quest.
She subtly walked toward the door, hunching her back as if that would make her invincible to the men in the room.
"Maria," Alpha Lake called.
She froze and slowly turned around to face him, "Yes, stepbrother," She flashed him her most adorable smile.
Alpha Lake frowned hard at that title. He hasn’t said he accepted her as his stepsister!
"Aww, isn’t our little sister the most adorable?" Mark asked.
Alpha Lake glared at him and shoved him away.
"Follow me," He said to Maria and walked up the stairs.
Maria gulped, nervously looking over at Mark.
"Don’t worry, go, he doesn’t bite...much," He smirked and walked to the fridge for some water.
Maria stood in front of the Alpha’s door, hesitating from knocking.
"Come in, Maria," Alpha Lake’s voice sounded from Audrey’s room.
Maria quickly turned to the sound of the voice and found Audrey’s door slightly ajar, she was a little confused, she had thought he would be inside his room, what was he doing in Audrey’s room?
Maria took a deep breath and walked into the room.
Maria felt so tiny standing alone in the same room as the Alpha. This was the first time she’d ever been alone with him, and she took her time to observe how really scary and big he looked, but as she looked longer, she also noticed that he looked lonely, neglected, and scared.
He wasn’t that of a bad person after all. He just wanted to have someone he could call his own for once. Losing his parents at a young age forced him to take on the mantle of leadership of the pack, and since then, he’s been the one protecting, providing, and guiding.
He, too, needed to be loved and guided.
Maria made up her mind to talk Audrey out of her quest. As she has become a member of the family, she wasn’t going to let anyone break her stepbrother’s heart, not even her cousin.
Alpha Lake was standing beside Audrey’s wardrobe with his back to Maria. He sensed her presence behind him and went ahead to place his palm on the wall beside the wardrobe.
Maria watched with curiosity as a small part of the wall slid open to review a square-shaped compartment.
Alpha Lake raised his hand and brought out something that looked like a small pixie dust bag; he placed his palm back on the wall, making the compartment close up.
He turned to a stunned-looking Maria and walked toward her, stretching his hand that held the pixie dust bag out to her.
Maria slowly raised her hand and took the pixie dust bag from him in a skeptical manner.
To her surprise, the bag seemed to be almost empty; she was almost on the verge of asking him why he gave her an empty bag when he felt a small object inside it.
"It’s the amulet I took from her on her birthday years ago. I knew she was my mate then, and this room was specifically made for her," Alpha Lake explained, looking lost.
"I had planned to give it back to her on her eighteenth birthday when she must have found her wolf and recognized me as her mate, but, things didn’t work out as they should’ve," He looked so pained Maria didn’t know when she went closer to him and gently started parting his back soothingly.
"I saw a vision, and I now realized that this was no ordinary amulet. I think this was why she returned to my pack. Thinking back, I’m glad I took it from her; if not, she would never have had a reason to come back to me," He said.
Maria couldn’t believe she was holding the mystical amulet in her hand; she felt honored.
"You know, all those times I treated her badly, I felt so sad afterwards, because I knew she was my mate, but I was blinded by rage," He lowly chuckled at his stupid reason.
Maria just stood beside him quietly, hearing him out; she was calming him, using her healing abilities to transmit tranquility into his troubled soul.
"My actions are inexcusable and I’ll accept it if she never forgives me, but I’ll never accept it if she rejects me. That’s why I need your help," Alpha Lake turned his face to Maria, looking down at her with a determined expression.
"Huh, me?" Maria frowned.
How did they get here? She was just trying to be a supportive younger stepsister but why was he now dragging her into his lover’s fight?
"What a cruel world," Maria thought.
"Return this amulet to her, and make sure you change her mind about rejecting me," Alpha Lake was back to his cold self.
"Uh, um, y-yes, step-"
"Alpha," Alpha Lake corrected in a low annoyed tone.
Maria nodded and subtly shifted away from him.
"Yes, Alpha stepbrother," Maria giggled and ran out of the room.
