Chapter 22: Quest Bonus?

Erin didn’t consider the fight ahead of her to be too difficult. She had fought against level 3s in Power Fighters even after losing her ability. Not only that, but she had Quinn next to her. The only issue was that she was still in direct sunlight, and her sun hat did nothing to help.

However, Erin didn’t think to bring her sword with her. She didn’t think that a quick trip to the convenience store would warrant a weapon, as she was used to having an ability she could depend on.

Erin dragged Quinn with her to a nearby bush, and hid behind it, sneaking closer. She poked her head out from the bush and spotted Nill’s back, the boy had light brown scruffy hair, or what could also be described as a dirty blonde.

{Erin} He hasn’t spotted us yet, let’s use the element of surprise to surround him.

Before Quinn could even respond, Erin jumped out from the bush, and decked him in the face, sending the unaware boy into the ground.

Despite being in sunlight, she was technically faster than the average person, albeit not by that much. The level 2 student who was previously on the floor looked shocked, but took this as the opportunity to escape. Nill also recovered from the hit, wiping some blood from his nose.

"Damn bitch, I could’ve gotten some money from that loser."

Quinn ran behind Erin and put on a fighting stance, his fists up.

Nill whipped his hands back and flung his arm in Erin’s direction. As he did, a light green liquid oozed out from his skin, and Erin managed to block the attack with her arms. Unfortunately, the liquid burned her skin, and she gritted her teeth.

{Erin} Hit him! He’s focused on me!

Quinn ran up to the guy, and punched him in the gut, but that only caused Nill to flinch slightly before copying Quinn’s move and gut punching him. Quinn stumbled back, partially bent over and holding where he was hit. Then Nill formed a handful of acid, and threw it at Quinn.

It was about to hit Quinn’s face, until Erin managed to block the attack for him with her torso. Thankfully, the acid didn’t burn clothes, but it still seeped through the cloth and hurt like hell.

’Damn it, I’m already half health,’ Erin thought.

She didn’t want to get used to playing tank, but when that acid was going straight to his face, she had to protect him. His vision was already poor enough as is. Erin was about to retaliate with an ice attack, but right as her hands were in formation to create an ice spear, she realized too late what had happened. Nill already threw out a kick, pushing her back, and causing her to topple onto Quinn.

Rolling off of him, Erin was wondering why this student was causing so much trouble for her. She defeated ability users with higher levels than him, and usually solo too.

’I can’t believe I forgot I don’t have my ability anymore,’ Erin thought, ’Should I use blood swipe? No, people know me as an ice ability user.’

From the corner of her eye, she could see that Quinn was struggling to get up.

{Erin} Quinn, keep your eyes on your opponent, don’t look away from him.

{Quinn} Easy for you to say.

Nill seemed to be distracted by something he saw on Erin’s arm, but she took that opportunity to get up and throw out a kick. However, he caught it, and threw her onto the floor.

Erin could feel something forming in her mouth. Quickly pressing against her top lip, she could feel that her fangs enlarged, and grew longer. With the sun, the acid and her low health bothering her, it was getting harder to concentrate. Quinn ran over to her and lifted her up. She could feel a strong urge to bite into him and taste his blood. Instead, she bit her tongue to suppress the urge.

Nill was about to throw another handful of acid at the two of them until a string had wrapped itself around his arm, causing him to suddenly smack himself in the face with the acid. He was immune to his own ability, so it didn’t do anything, but it was clear that he didn’t intend to do that in the first place.

When looking to find who threw the string out to Nill, Erin could see that it was attached to a particularly annoying sniffing teenager.

"Dude, you guys can’t seriously be fighting here," Fex spoke with a sly smile.

He threw out another string to the guy’s leg, and tugged on it. Nill fell over, smacking his face on the pavement. He accidentally bit his lip as he did so, causing some blood to spill onto the floor. Now surrounded by 3 people, Nill knew he couldn’t win.

With Fex there, Erin wanted to finish the fight, but Fex wasn’t too particularly bothered by Nill, so he let the string loosen, allowing for Nill to run off.

[Quest failed]

[No EXP will be given]

Erin was disappointed by the fact that she failed this quest, but something that bothered her more was that the strange sniffing boy had saved her!

"What are you doing here?!" Erin called out, annoyed.

"Just thought I’d drop by and help a fellow student out," Fex said with a wink, then pointed at Erin’s dress, "By the way, you should clean your dress, it looks like you puked."

Erin looked down and with the color of the acid, Fex was unfortunately right. Right before Quinn helped her to her feet, she quickly touched the small puddle blood of Nill on the tip of her fingers.

"Thanks," Quinn replied, "Really saved us there."

Erin, however, was annoyed, and yanked her arm out of Quinn’s hands, "You stole my target! I had it covered!"

Fex rolled his eyes with a smile, "Is that what you were doing? Looked like you were getting tossed around like a salad, heh."

"Yeah, I bet you know ALL about salads, pretty boy," Erin spat between her teeth.

Due to her getting badly injured, Erin’s hunger grew, causing her fangs to naturally come out.

"Well sorry for giving a damn about your well being," Fex sarcastically muttered.

"By the way, you should hide those," he said, pointing at his own teeth, "You wouldn’t want him to see."

Quinn got between the two of them, shoving them aside, "Hey, Erin, let’s not punch the guy who saved us, alright?"

{Quinn} Especially since we’re both pretty beaten and I’m sure he’s stronger than both of us combined. Let’s not get on his bad side.

Erin glared at Quinn, before turning around to leave. Quinn, however, stayed behind.

"I’m sorry about her, she just gets really worked up when it comes to fights. I don’t think she realized that you were trying to help," Quinn bluntly stated on Erin’s behalf.

"Your girlfriend seems to be really feisty," Fex nudged Quinn.

"For the last time, she’s not my girlfriend!" Quinn grew bright red before running off after Erin.

"Uh huh, sure," Fex shrugged as he watched them walk off.

Nill ran back to the second year’s building. He needed to tell someone something very important. As he passed by several classrooms and went to a storage room, he spotted the person he had to answer to.

Sitting in a swivel chair was a tall teenage boy with his brown hair in a pony tail. Hearing Nill run in, he turned around, and looked at the boy curiously on what caused him to be so out of breath.

"What brings you here?" Mono asked, leaning back on his chair.

Nill panted for air, before sitting down and wiping some sweat from his forehead, "You know the Ice Queen? She’s a level 1 now."

Mono raised an eyebrow, it’s unheard of for someone to suddenly lose their level. It’s not like someone would just have all their MC cells suddenly disappear, "Are you sure? Did she use any ability at all?"

"N—no sir!" Nill replied.

"Hmm..." Mono thought about it.

The whole situation didn’t make sense. It was unlikely that Erin never had an ability. She had shown her ice ability more than once, earning the title of ’Ice Queen’ in the first place. There was also the unlikely possibility that she had lost her ability somehow, as there were rumors that it could happen, but they didn’t come from reliable sources.

The whole situation didn’t make sense, so Mono came to his conclusion that she could’ve faked her ability somehow only to stop for some reason. Perhaps due to how resource intensive it would’ve been to keep it up.

He didn’t need to know the logistics of it, people knew her to be powerful. If she was able to fake being strong, and hung out with that low level, Quinn, then it would spell trouble for the societal system built at their school. He couldn’t have that.

"Thank you for telling me this, you can go now," Mono spoke. His tone sharp and focused.

Nill quickly left the room, uneasiness lingering in the pit of his stomach. Erin Heley had screwed up for the last time.
