Hated By The Alpha-Chapter 65: Will’s Motive
"Alpha, you know I didn’t do it-"
"Quiet, Adeline," Alpha Lake paused in the middle of the general living room and turned to look at Adelin, Audrey still in his arms.
"I’m sorry," Adeline murmured.
Alpha Lake turned and continued to walk toward the stairs.
"Wait," Audrey finally spoke.
"Yes, kitten?" He asked tenderly.
"I’ll follow you down to the dungeon," Audrey said.
She had always wanted to pay some people a surprise visit, but she never got the chance. Now was the best timing to ask the Alpha if she could follow him.
She wondered how Janeth would be feeling about her situation, Cara and Grace weren’t her problem, but she would still pay them a visit and see how they’re liking their new home.
Cara was the reason she had been locked in the dungeon a year ago, and now, she was facing the same fate she had faced. Karma was a bitch.
"Are you sure, Kitten?" Alpha Lake asked.
He thought she would have preferred to rest after being through all those hurdles.
"Yes," Audrey replied.
Alpha Lake slowly lowered her onto the ground, not rleasing her completely. He had his arms around her waist, he didn’t trust anyone anymore, he might decide to release her and next thing, she disappears.
"Let’s go," He held her wrist and led her out of the Packhouse.
Adeline watched with jealousy as they both walked out of the living room, leaving her behind, alone.
They walked behind the Pack’s kitchen and entered a door that led to an underground stairs.
"Watch your head," Alpha Lake guided Audrey’s head away from the artificial torch that hung on the wall.
Audrey wanted to roll her eyes and tell him that she knew these stairs like the back of her hand, but she didn’t.
"Thanks," She thanked him instead.
They came down the stairs and was faced with another huge door. He punched a six digit code into the door and a silent buzz was heard, indicating the door has been opened.
Audrey was surprised at the new development, it wasn’t here before. He must have installed it after she left the Pack.
"Carefull," He spoke lowly beside her ears as she stepped forward into the long passage.
Dungeon rooms lined the whole passage, their doors adjacent to each other, the only source of light was the one above the security door they’ve just passed through.
Everything was the same, just as she remembered, except for the new security system.
"Come," He held her arm and led her to the last the guards that stood in front of the doors.
As they neared the four last doors, she immediately noticed the face she’s been silently searching for since her return to the Pack.
It was Will, standing in front of the same dungeon door he had had stabbed her in.
She thought they were going to stop at Will’s post, butAlpha Lake led her past him moving forward to the last door.
She didn’t fail to see the shock and disbelief all over Will’s face as they passed him.
His face had turned white in a matter of seconds, like he had seen a ghost.
Audrey smiled to herself; she loved the reaction on his face, but he didn’t need to react so fast, she still had a lot more surprises for him than he could ever had imagine.
"Who’s in there?" Audrey asked, pointing at the door that was guarded by Will.
"Janeth," Alpha Lake replied.
She senses some tension in his voice, like he didn’t want to talk about the room or it’s occupant.
"Alpha," The guard in front of the last door bowed his head as he opened up the door for them.
Pitch dark.
The dungeon was pitch black and cold as the north pole.
Audrey felt memories of her time in the dungeon rush through her mind, like it happened yesterday.
She easily made out the features of Regee and Ginger sitting on the floor with only their boxer shielding them from the hard cold.
Their hands and legs were heavily chained to the wall with silver chains. As wolves, they were literally in hell with that silver chain digging against their skin.
"Oh, here they are," Audrey said quietly.
"Please, Ma’am, forgive us, I didn’t know you were important to our Alpha," Regee was the first to beg, getting on his knees, not minding the restraint from the silver chain that was hooked on the wall.
"I’m sorry for all I did, please, have mercy, I’m dying!" Ginger literally cried out, groveling on his knees.
"Quiet," Alpha Lake’s voice was colder than the room’s temperature.
They prisoners shivered not from cold, but from fear. They knew they had fucked up big time, if they ever knew Audrey was someone dear to the Alpha, they would never have accepted such request from Adeline, no matter the amount of money involved. They valued their lives more than money.
"Does someone need to hold a special position before they are respected?" Audrey asked quietly.
Regee and Ginger slowly shook their head, they couldn’t talk for they knew their actions were wrong and inexcusable.
"Then, why did you do it?" Audrey folded her hands over her chest.
Alpha Lake stood back, he let her have her way, he had intended to come down and straight up toture them without asking any questions, but it seemed like she had everything under control.
He was cool with whatever she decided.
"I swear to the moon goddess, it was her, that Adeline, she made us do it!" Regee pleaded.
"She lied to us that you were a threat to our Alpha, that’s why we did it! We were trying to protect you, Alpha, Argh!" Ginger screamed painfully as the silver chain burned and dug into his wrists as he wanted to move closer to Audrey and hold her leg.
"Tsk, you still lie under such circumstance. Just admit you did it for the money and I’ll consider releasing you," Audrey promised.
"Yes, yes! We did it for the money, we were just being greedy and wicked. Please forgive us, Miss, we’ll forever remain loyal to you!" Regee rasped out.
An idea popped into Audrey’s mind when he heard what Regee had said. She realized she didn’t want to close Adeline’s Chapter yet, it would be an easy outlet for all her evil doings if she were to expose her true nature to Alpha Lake right now.
She could use these men to her advantage.
Audrey turned back and looked at Alpha Lake, using her eyes to ask for his consent. And as if he understood her silent request, he slowly his head nodded at her.
"Guard?" Audrey called with a slightly raised voice.
"You work for me now," She told them and walked away.
"Release them," Audrey said to the guard who rushed into the dungeon.
"Thank you, Mistress," Regee and Ginger echoed at once.
Alpha Lake ignored them and followed Audrey outside.
"Hey, Kitten," He caught her arm in front of him and drew her back into his arms.
"Why?" He whispered.
Audrey knew what he asking her about but she couldn’t tell him her reasons for releasing them, not yet.
"I’m a compassionate person," She shrugged.
"Just that?" He questioned quietly, not believing her one bit.
If there’s anything he’s learned about her, it would be her mysterious nature, she never did anything without a weird reason, but he’ll let her be, he knew she’ll let me him in when she’s ready. He hoped it would be soon.
"Mm," Audrey nodded.
"Okay," He kissed the side of her neck.
Audrey noticed the uneasy body language from Will, he wasn’t comfortable with her presence and most importantly, the fact that Alpha Lake was clinging to her like a second skin made the whole situation terrifying and strange for him.
"Can I see her?" Audrey pointed at Will’s direction.
"Janeth?" He asked with a raised brow.
"Yes," Audrey replied.
"No, I don’t want you anywhere near her, she’s dangerous," He hugged her tightly from behind.
"Please, you don’t have to worry, I can handle her. Just let me see her... Alone," as Audrey spoke, she gently rubbed his arm that was hugging her around her waist.
"You sure about that?" Alpha Lake asked, he wasn’t convinced enough to let her enter that dark dungeon alone.
He didn’t trust her alone with Janeth, and apart from that; he felt an unexplaineable uneasiness at the bottom of his stomach; as if letting her go in there would lead her to end up in the same condition as Audrey did the last time she was in there.
He didn’t want that, he couldn’t bear to loose her too.
But he had to be rational, he was there with her so nothing and no one would dare to hurt her in his presence.
"Okay, I’ll be right outside the door," He finally let her go.
As she neared the door, Will could be seen shifting his weight uncomfortably from one foot to the other.
He was confused by her presence, he was trying hard to comprehend how she had survived his attack a year ago, but again, he wasn’t sure if she was who he thought her to be.
His mind was mess, he thought that if it was really Audrey, then she might have recognized his voice from that night, and probably would have rattled him out to the Alpha. And that’s when his confidence returned, he was sure it wasn’t Audrey.
First, she could never survive what he did to her, Second; she would have rattled him out if she were Audrey, Third; she would never in her life let herself be this close to the Alpha, Fourth; there was something intimidating about her that was never present in Audrey.
He quickly remembered he’s heard people talking about a girl that looked exactly like Audrey, but he had never had the opportunity to see her because he’s been transferred permanently as a dungeon guard.
After Audrey’s incident last year, Alpha Lake made him a permanent dungeon guard as a punishment for letting such thing happen on his watch. From then, he wasn’t allowed to go out or associate with people outside, it’s safe to say he has also become a prisoner in the dungeon, just that he had a small room with a small bed just before the dungeon stairs.
He straightened up as he Audrey neared him, he wasn’t going to let her intimidate him.
He won’t let a lookalike of someone he bullied and killed boss him around. He hated her already, if he hadn’t witnessed how close she was to the Alpha, he would have treated her the same way he did Audrey, he’ll be doing his mistress a favour by doing it after all.
"Open the door, Will," Audrey said so only him could hear.
She looked him right in the eyes as she spoke, knowing the effect it will have on him.
Will’s will crumbled in a matter of seconds and real fear kicked in.
It was her!
