Chapter 101: Chapter 101 One Man, Hundreds of Wives

Isla looked like a fallen goddess - too clean for a hell full of monsters.

In the end, Magnus’s eyes still drifted back to Isla. Something sat heavy in his chest. Hard to name it. With a deep breath, he said flatly, "Come out. We need to talk."

Wearing a pale yellow dress, Isla stood up calmly and followed him into the RV’s lounge. Her face looked steady, but her hand clenched tightly around a pair of scissors - Magnus didn’t notice.

Outside, her two female bodyguards stood stiff at the door, nerves written all over their faces. Magnus tossed them a quick glance, then dropped into a white fur-covered sofa and lit a cigarette. Isla followed him in. Her brow twitched slightly at the smoke, but she still sat across from him gracefully.

"We’ve got a team. Over 700 strong. All women, except me..." Magnus got straight to the point. "You’ve got two choices. First, you join us. We’ll cover food and safety. But this vehicle becomes team property. Second - "

"Never gonna happen!" one of the bodyguards snapped.

Magnus gave her a cold look and kept going, this time speaking only to Isla. "Or you leave. We won’t stop you."

"We’ll take the second option!" the bodyguard cut in loudly. "You said it yourself! Keep your word!"

Magnus didn’t even glance her way - his eyes stayed on Isla. He had no plans to let the vehicle walk away, but he figured she was smart enough to get that.

Isla gave a soft sigh, gaze lingering on the wineglass before her. She picked it up, sipped, then rose with a calm look in her eyes. "We’ll join you."

"What? Miss! You really trust this guy?" the bodyguard blurted out.

"Do we have another real choice?" Isla’s voice was calm, almost tired.

"But - but he said we could just leave!"

"If he means us harm," Isla said quietly, "what difference does a promise make? He could just kill us. But if he really lets us walk - then what’s the point of leaving?"

The bodyguard fell silent.

Magnus got up and strolled over to the door. He pulled out a can of bug spray and gave the doorway a good blast.

"What are you doing now?!" the bodyguard yelled.

"Letting my girls come in. They all want to see a star."

He pushed the door open. Excited footsteps rushed inside with loud chatter:

"Oh my god! It really is Isla!"

"Am I dreaming?!"

"She’s even prettier in real life!"

"Isla! Can I take a picture with you? I still have battery!"

His team swarmed the space like giddy fans. Isla put on her business smile, though it looked a little stiff.

By 9 a.m., breakfast was done. Her luxury RV was parked in the center of the convoy, with Isla and her three guards still inside. Magnus figured they’d need time to blend in.

The RV wasn’t going anywhere anyway.

No new deals came in during the morning. Magnus sat in his own beast of a vehicle, turning a piece of Nature Crystal over in his hands like it was treasure.

Damn thing was a game-changer. With this, they didn’t have to fear any armored trucks. Just one thing - he still didn’t know if it could run out of energy.

Just after noon, Caroline and ten other women drove in with three box trucks. Spotting Isla, they couldn’t help another round of astonished gasps.

"Magnus," Isabel climbed into the Warrior, shutting the door behind her. "We’re craving frozen dumplings for lunch. That cool with you?"

"Fine by me. You all decide." Magnus pocketed the Nature Crystal, giving her a glance. "How’s Isla and her crew settling in?"

"She’s still a bit stiff, but her three bodyguards are alright. One of them’s a former female special forces member, same as Caroline and the others. They’re getting along."

Just as they were talking, the roar of engines rumbled from afar. Magnus raised his binoculars - another convoy rolling in.

This team was smaller, fifty people maybe, with five vehicles - one bus and one mid-size cargo van. As usual, Magnus invited two men aboard the sleeper truck. The moment they got in, one of them ripped off the cloth wrapped around his head, blurting out, "You’re the one trading water, right? We heard you’ll trade food, water!"

Magnus looked him over. Lips cracked, clearly parched, he casually handed them each a bottle of mineral water. "What’re you offering?"

They grabbed the bottles, gulping like starved beasts. One drained his in seconds, wiped his mouth with a sleeve. "Thanks! We brought stuff to trade! For water and food!"

"What stuff?" Magnus asked again, tone steady.

"Cigarettes! We want to trade smokes for water. Heard from Old Wu you guys will trade anything for water!"

"Cigarettes?" Magnus raised an eyebrow. "You mean tobacco?"

The women in the truck wrinkled their noses. Some looked disappointed - thought it was something decent.

"Yeah! Our van’s packed full, straight from a tobacco company! We’ll give them all, you just give us five tons of mineral water. Deal?"

Blunt words. The man beside him nudged his side and added, "Uh, maybe not all water. Can we get some rice too? Plain white rice’s fine."

A truck full of cigarettes. Magnus ran the numbers in his head. Trade made sense; they had plenty of water now, and five tons wasn’t a big deal to him.

He agreed - five tons of water, 500 pounds of rice in exchange for a mid-sized truck loaded with smokes. Straightforward. The two men hollered for their crew to unload; total of 120 boxes from various brands.

Once the handoff was done, the outspoken one - Shawn Walker - reached out again, "We heard you’re trading for cargo vans too? One truck for 100 boxes of water? That true?"

"True. Always been trading vans. Any other car works too, as long as it looks decent," Magnus nodded.

"Perfect! We’ll find one for you today! If we get it, it’s yours!" Shawn grinned.

His partner hesitated a beat, then stammered, "Um... hey, uh, do you folks need more people in your crew?"

"We only take women," Isabel snapped, voice cold. "If you’ve got women who wanna join, fine. If they’re Awakened, it’s worth three boxes of water. If not, just one."

"Only women? Why?" Shawn’s eyes popped wide.

"No reason. That’s just how we run things," Isabel said flatly.

Shawn pointed at Magnus, "What about him? Is he a woman too?"

"He’s our captain. He - " Isabel started, but Sophie cut in, smirking, "We’re all his wives. What, you thinking about becoming one too?"

Shawn and his buddy gave each other a look of utter disbelief. In their heads, they were cursing up a storm - what the hell kind of setup was this? That guy married a whole damn truckload of women?

Marriage by cargo count now?
