Chapter 257: 257. A boasting (proud) dog

Chelsea was the first to speak, beginning when we sat down with our food.

"I knew I saw something on your neck!"

"Whoa." One of the twins.

"So beautiful." The other twin.

"Is that a keepsake?" Glasses Guy.

"No, it’s surely from a girl, right?" Anti-Guy.

As if there was nothing better to talk about, they all acted like hyenas that had never seen someone wearing a choker.

Sitting on his right, I glanced at Henry...

Well, my taste is just that good, I suppose. He looked like a supermodel or someone straight out of a myth.

Henry had taken a seat at the head of the long table our group occupied today, contrary to the other end where we would usually sit beside each other, which was very unusual. But I had my suspicions about the reason; it should be for this spectacle.

"Where did you get it from?" Chelsea asked.

"It was a gift." Henry boasted, tilting his head as if he were shy while actually accentuating his collar and giving everyone a better look.

I didn’t know if I should die from embarrassment or secondhand embarrassment. By the way, are his five minutes of silence already up?

But it was far from over when Henry continued,

"The person who gifted it to me traveled to the other side of the Earth to get it for me."

What a show-off.

"Then that’s a grand gesture!" Chelsea exclaimed, the twins nodding, looking as if they were ready for gossip.

"What does such a gesture mean, would you say?" Henry asked, leaning forward as he propped his chin on his interlocked fingers, his face glistening with mirth.

I stuffed my mouth with food while zoning out, trying to trigger an out-of-body experience.

"If it is from someone with a blood relationship—" Chelsea started, her eyes fixed on the choker that peeked through under Henry’s interlocked fingers.

"No blood relationship." He interrupted her.

"Oho, I knew it. If it was from a girl, then she is definitely in love with you." She giggled.

I forced down my food and grabbed a water bottle to make sure it stayed down.

"Ah... really?" Henry asked with a head tilt and a look directed at me— all in all behaving in a really infuriating way.

If feeding him my blood had caused him to go crazy and act out continuously—if my blood created this monster, I would never feed him again, even if he showed up half dead on my doorstep.

"Do you know how much she paid for it?" Chelsea asked.

Anonymously decided it was from a girl... Chelsea, I will remember that.

And we don’t talk about money when it comes to gifts. I even made a point of ’earning’ some of the strange currency there because I didn’t want my gift to be something I had stolen.

"She is penniless at the moment... so it should have come with an unbearably high price." Henry turned back to Chelsea. I think I have never seen them talk so much, especially in such a friendly way.

Henry, going with the now established fact that it was indeed from a girl... I kicked him under the table so hard that he bent over for a moment before straightening up with a bright smile, not a trace of pain on it.

Everyone’s eyes turned to me, forcing me to come up with an excuse for kicking a happy dog.

"I am a bit jealous—"

"Don’t worry; we will stay best friends even if someone likes me," Henry assured me, apparently having the time of his life twisting my words.

Now I really wished I could control his body so I could make him smash his face into his food.

"—That he got a gift from such a generous girl." I finished what I had meant to say.

"But be careful; girls are fickle. Maybe she’ll take that gift back if you brag too much." I concluded and took my water bottle to drink some more.

"What is that supposed to mean?" Chelsea looked at me with raised eyebrows.

"Sorry. Humans are fickle. Hear that, Henry? Even if a man had gifted you something like this, he could take it back anytime." I gave him a pointed look, and seeing him cover his collar with both hands again, I continued eating.

"I really have never seen such a beautiful necklace!" One of the twins blurted out, saving me from some awkward silence that had nearly started to form.

I could feel Chelsea’s eyes wander between me and Henry and knew that she was somewhat suspicious. Well, I wouldn’t want to lead her on anyway... but it was still uncomfortable.

Henry cleared his throat, apparently behaving now because of my threats.

"Thanks." He finally continued to eat obediently.

"The last lesson today is the water tank." Chelsea quietly said.

"What should we do?" One of the twins asked.

Good, not only had she really informed everybody, but they even put some thought into it.

"Well, you girls can say you are on your period." I advised while chewing, earning a glare from Chelsea.

"Today, the two of us don’t go together well."

I looked at her, stunned.

"Why?" It was me who had been called a girl!? It had been you people who discussed my love life while calling me a girl? And that’s just because I gifted something to someone who wanted it?

What did I do wrong?

I saw Henry laughing at me, even if he tried to mask it by covering his mouth with his hair.

Traitor.

"No, really, why? Isn’t that a good excuse? Girls always use that to get out of PE?"

Chelsea sighed deeply, as if she were talking to an imbecile.

"Kenny, women want men to comment on their cycle in two ways. First by saying, ’Can I bring you a hot water bottle?’ Second, by asking, ’What woman’s product can I buy for you?’ Now tell me, did you say one of those two sentences?"

I leaned back and chuckled.

"No, ma’am."

"Then why are you talking?" Chelsea asked amid laughter. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

Fine, I’m going to shut up now.

Everyone laughed and had their fun at my expense, which was better than having them call me a girl to my face.

Henry also smiled, but it had turned into a professional Ethan-fake-smile, probably because he was grumpy about being ignored for half a second there while Chelsea had been roasting me.

He expressed his unhappiness by leaning back as well and putting one of his long legs over my thighs under the table, making me carry the weight of it.

Everyone is pushing me around today.
