Chapter 258: 258. Screams

"Let’s just say we feel uncomfortable. After what everyone went through, getting locked into a wet coffin is not exactly a normal way of treatment anyway." I said while pinching Henry’s leg that was resting on my thighs.

I looked at him from the corner of my eye, and seeing him flinch from the pain made me feel better.

Don’t piss someone off only to hand yourself over. I chuckled.

"I... really hate it in there." One of the twins said.

"Why didn’t you say anything?" I asked her. She looked at her sister before answering,

"We didn’t know that that was an option..." I put my fork down, and while pinching Henry again, I tapped the table with my free hand.

"You aren’t prisoners here; if you don’t like something, then tell them. You can always threaten to leave...or really leave."

The twins looked at me as if I were their hero, though they were at least half a decade older than me, making me uncomfortable.

"Then it’s settled. Let’s talk to the supervisor lady today." Glasses Guy concluded.

We had already finished eating, and I put Henry’s leg away, clearly seeing relief on his face because he escaped further torment, before standing up.

As we walked to our next lesson, Henry again hung on me.

"Are you mad? You aren’t really taking it away?" He whispered in my ear, all docile again.

I smiled.

"Why are you asking me? It appears you got the necklace from a girl, while the last time I checked, I was a man."

"Kennyyy...." He whined.

"If I said it was from a guy, they would have known it was from you, and you would have been pissed as well." His mouth was so close to my ear that it felt like his voice was directly transmitted into my head.

"...True." I said.

"I just wanted to show off; it’s my first time getting such a nice gift, and it is from you..." He whimpered.

Now I look like the bad guy.

"Yeah, yeah. If you are happy, then that’s good." Though it was meant as a sign of ownership, it somehow turned into a gift for courtship. Damn it!

"I am more than happy. And if you are happy, you have to share it with your friends, don’t you?" Now he had taken it too far; do you really think I don’t know that you don’t like the others because you can’t hog my attention when we eat with them?

I gave Henry a glare, and he laughed, rubbing his head against mine.

"Even if you try to take it away, I won’t let you. I am taking my collar to my grave."

"Yeah, continue with your ways, and that day will come soon." I elbowed him, and he chuckled, pulling me even closer to him.

First, we had the muscle relaxation lesson that wasn’t like a nice massage or anything but instead was like, ’Tighten the muscles in your arm, relax your arm’; ’Tighten the muscles in your leg, relax your leg’; stuff like this, and it was boring enough to nearly send me to dream world.

Then came the breathing guy again, and this time I really dozed off, getting woken up by Henry’s hands playing with my hair when the lesson was over.

I was still sitting with my arms crossed while he stood behind my chair in the now empty room.

"Hm?" I asked, looking up at him.

"We need to go to the last lesson." He couldn’t sound more relaxed, so it seemed there was still some time left, and his fingers massaging my scalp felt nice, so I closed my eyes again.

"Mhm." I felt that my nap just now was especially nice. Maybe I should start some breathing techniques before going to sleep in the evening.

"Kenny."

"Hm?" I asked, not opening my eyes, half asleep again.

"How are you feeling?"

"Good." I hummed.

"Do you like what I am doing?" He asked, combing through my hair like a professional.

"Yeah." My head fell a bit forward.

The sun shone through the big window front onto my body, making me feel warm and cozy.

If time stopped in this moment, I wouldn’t mind it.

"I’ll give you five more minutes; then we really have to go." Henry murmured, not stopping his hand movement.

"Mhm." It seemed such a waste to fall back asleep, so I stayed in this half-asleep, half-awake state, turning all mushy under Henry’s skills.

It was so silent in this room, as if it was cut off from the outer world.

I sighed, so relaxed that my body felt like a floppy pudding.

Yet some fucker had to step in and destroy this peace, as I suddenly heard someone screaming with all his might.

"What’s that?" I uttered, still in a trance, not caring all that much; the Center people would surely take care of it.

"What’s what?" Henry asked.

"Don’t you hear it?" Too lazy to open my eyes. The man’s screams became louder and louder—it sounded as if he was getting butchered.

"The screams." I clarified.

"Kenny." Henry pulled my head back and patted my cheek to really wake me up.

"There are no screams. Are you hearing something right now?" I still had my eyes closed.

"Yeah, someone seems to be getting slaughtered."

"Kenny, look at me." He again patted my cheek.

The man’s scream had become so deafeningly loud that it felt like he stood right beside my ear, hollering into it with his distorted voice, full of pain.

I somehow still didn’t want to wake up but forced my eyes open, and when I did, it suddenly became absolutely silent.

"Strange." I said groggily, looking at Henry’s upside-down face, contorted in anxiousness. "Now it’s silent."

"Let’s go." He put his hands under my armpits and lifted me up from behind before grabbing my wrist and dragging me out. When I was inside the elevator on the way to the underground, where the wet coffins were, I finally got rid of the last remaining daze.

"What the fuck?" I turned to look at Henry. What was that? Some kind of dream, hallucination, tinnitus, or premonition?

"One person or more people?" He asked me while leaning against the elevator wall, his brows furrowed and his lips pressed together.

"One person. Male."

"Did you recognize the voice?"

"Have you ever heard someone scream at the top of his lungs? There is no way I could recognize it. Though it’s not you or me." Our voices I would definitely be able to discern.

"Tell me if this happens again." He implored me, and I nodded, touching my forehead.

We had both experienced too much to not get alert with something like this. Especially given my ability of foresight.

I touched Henry’s hand and flipped the coin, only seeing us attending the lessons and being okay for the next time.

"Seen something?" Henry always knew when I flipped the coin—well, I had never intended to hide it anyway.

"No, we’ll be alright."

"Mhm." Henry hummed while nodding slowly, his thoughts somewhere else.

He had been so hyped up today, and now it was all destroyed... Though he had been so damn annoying, it was somewhat a pity...

I closed my eyes and leaned back in an attempt to brace myself for the embarrassment that I would soon feel.

"I think... I have never seen someone pull off a choker so handsomely."

"Really?" I could hear Henry’s enthusiasm creeping back into his voice.

"Yeah. You are already the most handsome, and now... your beauty is only accentuated..." Can’t believe I am doing this.

"You think I am the most handsome?"

"Never seen someone as good-looking." I wanted to bite my tongue off. Though it wasn’t a lie.

"How can you say that, looking like that?" Henry was hyped up again and came to my side to rub his head against mine while I mimicked a statue.

"You are the most handsome." The puppy complimented its owner happily.

"No, you." Ah, just kill me.

"No, you~" He chuckled deeply, hugging me sideways while smooching my cheek.

The cringe factor...was really overwhelming.

How long is this damn elevator taking?
