Chapter 77: Chapter 74: Building a Tribe

Before heading back to the tribe, An Jin watched from the jungle as Mi Yin departed. He bent down and hugged her tightly for several seconds, reluctant to let go. "Jin’er, I want to stay by your side..."

He already couldn’t bear to be without her. Not having her by his side made his chest ache, an almost suffocating pain. He wanted to snatch her away and keep her all to himself.

An Jin touched his cool, smooth face, marveling that the long, black-and-red hair flowing through her palm was also cool to the touch. After a moment’s thought, she said, "You seemed to get along quite well with the tribe members these past few days. I’ll talk to the Clan Leader in a day or two and see if we can get you into the tribe."

After she spoke, she looked at Mi Yin uneasily. "Would you want to?"

’After all, he’s a Wandering Beast. It must be difficult for him to adapt completely to life in a tribe.’

Mi Yin lowered his head and didn’t answer right away. He didn’t like this kind of communal living—in fact, he despised it. But snatching a female away to wander with him was a good way to get killed.

He pondered for a moment before speaking. "Okay."

’Whether it’s in the wild or in a tribe, it makes little difference to me,’ he thought. ’I just want to be by my beloved female’s side.’

As the sky darkened, Mi Yin placed a kiss on An Jin’s face, then, with a reluctant swish of his snake tail, vanished into the depths of the gloomy jungle.

On her way back to the tribe, An Jin picked a basket of wild grass and some fresh wild fruit. After munching on a few pieces of fruit, she saw the tribe’s buildings in the distance.

Back at Ling Hong’s stone house, she set down her basket. ’I can’t just keep living in his house,’ An Jin thought. ’In a couple of days, I’ll ask a Beastman to help me build a wooden one.’

"CLUCK CLUCK~" A few large, fat chickens waddled over, their round bodies swaying. Seeing the handful of wild grass in An Jin’s hand, they flapped their short, vine-tethered wings and rushed forward to peck at her palm.

"Whoa, not so fast!" The Wild Grass Birds weren’t fully domesticated yet. Fearing she’d get pecked, An Jin quickly pulled the grass out of her basket and scattered it on the ground.

The fat birds’ little claws went PITTER-PATTER as they buried their heads in the mountain-like pile of grass, pecking away with non-stop CLUCKING.

The moment she got home, she was hit by the faint smell of chicken droppings. The ground was covered in white stains of all sizes, and An Jin’s good mood instantly evaporated.

She and Ling Hong had only been gone a month, and these fat chickens were already running wild.

’I’ll have to build a big coop for them in a couple of days,’ she thought. ’I’ll definitely be raising more in the future, and I can’t just let them all roam free in the yard.’

Careful of her beast-hide skirt, An Jin squatted down and began searching through the grass for Wild Grass Bird eggs. Just then, Ling Hong returned, having finished his hunt and washed up in the river. He joined her in gathering the eggs.

The two of them collected more than a dozen fist-sized eggs from the surrounding grass. The rest had likely been pecked open and eaten by the Wild Grass Birds themselves.

Inside the enclosure, the "silkworm babies," fed by the tribe members, had grown a size fatter. They were gradually becoming less active. Once the rainy season arrived, they would pupate and form cocoons.

’By next year, I’ll probably be able to wear soft, new, white clothes!’

"I’ll go make you some steamed eggs. What else do you want? I just caught a wild boar on my hunt." Ling Hong’s cooking skills had been improving by leaps and bounds lately, thanks to An Jin’s personal instruction.

"I don’t have a huge appetite. Just a few pieces of fried meat would be great. Oh, and make a mushroom soup for me!"

"Okay." After washing the ingredients, Ling Hong strode back into the house on his long legs and started a fire in the stove.

When she finished her work, An Jin followed the delicious aroma, gliding over to his side. Her eyes burned with focus on the stone pot as she licked her slightly dry lips. "It smells amazing! Even better than when I cook it, I think!"

Despite his usual stern and unsmiling face, Ling Hong was secretly the Beast World’s version of a decathlete—an indispensable, caring, wolf-type guy perfect for home and travel!

Flattered by An Jin’s praise, Ling Hong’s lips curled into a slight smile. A hint of warmth surfaced in his green eyes, and his silver-white wolf tail gave a gentle wag behind him.

He didn’t know why, but he was suddenly in a very good mood.

After dinner, An Jin finished cleaning up and turned to the silver-haired man. "Could you help me build a wooden house nearby in a couple of days? It’s not really right for me to keep staying here." ’Once Ling Hong finds a female, I’ll have to move out anyway,’ she added silently.

Ling Hong froze. Under the female’s confused gaze, he quickly finished the last two bites of his food. After a long moment of silence, he nodded. "Alright. I’ll help you build it in a couple of days when I have time."

He thought for a moment, then added, "There’s an empty plot of land right next to my house. I’ll help you build it there."

"Thank you so much!" An Jin didn’t overthink it. The thought that she would have her own big, new house in a few days made her heart flutter with excitement.

An Jin’s proposal to cultivate fertile land and plant wheat was met with immediate and enthusiastic support from the entire tribe.

They chose a plot with fertile soil near a water source, which happened to be near Xi’s former dwelling place.

However, the land was covered in rocks and weeds, so several strong and capable Beastmen voluntarily formed a team to clear it.

They shifted into their beast forms and spent half the day tilling the land with their claws until the soil was soft and aerated.

Just like that, a one-mu plot of farmland was prepared.

The Beastmen received the seeds that were handed out and, under An Jin’s guidance, sowed them all, watering the plot every few days.

’Build a tribe?’ An Jin was puzzled. She was living quite well in this tribe; besides, building a whole new tribe was no simple matter.

A few days later, after trying to get on his good side, An Jin petitioned the Clan Leader to let Mi Yin join the tribe. To her surprise, she was harshly rejected.

The Clan Leader slammed his hand on the table and shot to his feet, his square face contorted with fury and his golden whiskers trembling in anger. "Impossible! That’s a Poisonous Snake Beastman! A Sixth Rank Wandering Beast! How could we possibly let him join our tribe? Do you realize what kind of danger that would bring?!"

A few of the Beastmen who had gone to the market with her before actually spoke up in An Jin’s defense.

After all, they had lived peacefully with Mi Yin for some time. Though it was mostly for An Jin’s sake, Mi Yin had helped them hunt several large, healthy animals, earning him quite a bit of goodwill.

Speaking from an official standpoint, Ling Hong also supported An Jin’s idea.

Having a Sixth Rank Beastman stationed in the tribe would greatly increase their influence and serve as a deterrent to neighboring tribes.

For the Luoten Tribe as it was now, there were only benefits and no drawbacks.

Seeing many Beastmen defy his wishes and side with Ling Hong, the Clan Leader felt his authority challenged and flew into a humiliated rage. He slammed his hand down, shattering the stone table. "I will never agree to this!"

’Isn’t one Ling Hong enough?’

’Now they’re trying to shove a terrifying Sixth Rank Wandering Beast into the tribe?! I will never agree!’

’This must be a conspiracy by that wolf cub, Ling Hong! He wants to win over the Snake Beast to kick me out of my position as Clan Leader! Not in this lifetime!’

The Clan Leader was narrow-minded, his head filled with nothing but conspiracy theories. He was so angry that he couldn’t sleep for several nights.

He clenched his fists, the veins on his hands bulging. His eyes turned a cold, scarlet red, holding a sinister, dark glint.

Before, both Ling Hong and Manduo had been strong contenders for the position of Clan Leader.

Ling Hong was strong, so the Clan Leader treated him with cold indifference.

Manduo was weak, so the Clan Leader favored him and drew him in.

The entire tribe knew that Manduo was his closest confidant. But Ling Hong had branded Manduo a traitor, causing him to be reviled and abandoned by all the Beastmen.

’As for this ’traitor’ business, who really knows if it’s true or not?’

’What if that wolf cub just fabricated the whole story? This was clearly Ling Hong’s way of putting me in my place.’

’Beastmen have always revered strength. Ling Hong’s influence is growing, and many of the young, powerful Beastmen are starting to side with him. Meanwhile, I am growing old and frail...’

The Clan Leader’s fists clenched tighter. ’If I let that wolf cub continue to grow stronger, he’ll become a massive threat. I must eliminate him as soon as possible!’
