Chapter 78: Chapter 75: How Could He Be So Seriously Injured?

A sleek, powerful Silver Wolf was carrying its prey back to the clan when it heard footsteps approaching from behind.

The Clan Leader walked up to him.

"Ling Hong, it seems a small pack of Demon Beasts has appeared in the foothills around our clan. They could threaten the lives of our people. I want you to take some men and eliminate them." 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

The Silver Wolf set down its prey and transformed into a tall, imposing man. The corners of his mouth were still stained with fresh blood.

Ling Hong hesitated for a moment, looking directly at the Clan Leader’s friendly face. His fists clenched lightly at his sides. "Me?"

’Demon Beast packs show up all the time. Why single me out for this one?’

’But then again, An Jin is in the clan. If a pack of Demon Beasts really does attack, her life would be in danger too.’

Ling Hong nodded. "Alright, I’ll set out tomorrow." He then turned, transformed back into his wolf form, and picked up the prey from the ground. He couldn’t be late making dinner for his female.

During the days Ling Hong was away, An Jin often went into the mountain forests with Gou Ni to gather flowers and herbs. They experimented by adding them to various concoctions, researching how to improve and perfect their skincare products.

It had to be said that girls truly had an interest in this sort of thing. After several improvements by the pair, their Beast World "skincare products" had evolved from a single-purpose item into a line with multiple functions, broadly divided into three categories: whitening, acne-fighting, and moisturizing.

The females of the clan flocked to them, and a single jar of cream often became hard to come by.

An Jin suddenly noticed that her prestige in the clan had risen to 81, second only to Ling Hong at 89 and the Clan Leader at 91.

Half a month later, Ling Hong returned, covered in wounds. His entire body was soaked in blood, with cuts so deep his bones were visible. The moment he saw An Jin, his body swayed, and he collapsed into the female’s arms.

A gush of fresh blood spattered onto the grass. An Jin held the man’s firm waist, his animal-hide skirt already soaked through. Her own hands were covered in sticky blood.

The body in her arms felt as cold as a corpse.

’...How could he be so badly injured?!’

"Someone, quickly! Get me some cattail pollen!" An Jin frantically treated Ling Hong’s wounds. The Beastmen beside her immediately transformed into their animal forms to search for medicinal herbs, and the Clan Leader summoned the clan’s Witch Doctor to help.

The sun slid from its zenith to the western horizon, and night began to fall before An Jin finally managed to stop the man’s bleeding.

She wiped the cold sweat from her brow. Her face was pale and her fingertips still trembled. It was the first time she had ever seen injuries so severe they were nearly fatal.

An Jin couldn’t believe that Ling Hong had made it back to the clan on sheer willpower alone, only to collapse in her arms.

"Alright, let’s get him back to his hut to rest. He should wake up in a couple of days," An Jin said as she finished bandaging his wounds with clean animal hide. She then had a few Beastmen carry him to his room.

The Clan Leader returned to his stone hut and shut the door. In the darkness, only his golden eyes glinted with a venomous hatred.

’Ling Hong didn’t die. How unexpected.’

When he had described the Demon Beast situation to Ling Hong, he had deliberately omitted a few key details—it wasn’t a small pack of Demon Beasts, but a large one with nearly a hundred or more of the creatures.

The Clan Leader slowly drew a blade from beneath the table, its edge glinting with a faint, cold light. ’So what if he didn’t die?’ he thought. ’A man who is gravely injured and unconscious has no way to defend himself.’

The night was pitch-black and terrifyingly silent. Danger lurked all around.

When no one was around, An Jin bought a Rejuvenation Pill from the System Mall. She forced open the bloodstained wolf’s mouth and poured the pill down its throat.

Deep in the night, thanks to the formidable regenerative abilities of a Beastman, combined with the effects of the pill, Ling Hong’s consciousness began to return. His wolf paw, resting on a pile of hay, twitched.
