Favorite of the Beast-world: I Got Rich Through Farming-Chapter 76 - 73: Golden Feathered Giant Eagle
The tribal exchange came to a close. After trading for the supplies they needed, An Jin and her party quickly returned to their tribe before the great rainy season began.
The tribespeople—men and women, young and old—all gathered in the tribal square, cheering loudly. They had prepared fresh fruit and roasted meat to welcome the warriors returning with their bounty.
Dozens of carts were stuffed to the brim. Though the supplies were packed in Beast Skin Bags, obscuring their contents, it did nothing to dampen the tribe’s excitement.
"Gods, how much salt did they get?!"
The Beastmen worked together to unload all the supplies from the carts, piling them into a small mountain. The tribespeople stared, their eyes wide and their voices trembling.
"Take a guess!"
"Ten jars?!" someone in the crowd exclaimed in disbelief.
In previous years, they had only ever managed to trade for five or six jars of salt. The absolute most they had ever gotten was seven or eight. There was no precedent for any more than that.
One of the returning Beastmen shook his head, his words filled with pride. "That’s way too low! Have some imagination, guess higher!"
"Ten... fifteen jars!"
The Beastmen roared with laughter. "One hundred jars of salt! We traded for a full one hundred jars of salt this time! And over twenty Beast Crystals!" 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
"AWOOO—!!!"
The tribe’s Beastmen nearly fainted from excitement. Shifting into their beast forms, they threw their heads back and howled at the sky, shedding tears of pure joy.
’One hundred jars! A full one hundred jars of salt!’
That was more than ten times the amount they usually traded for! It was more than enough for every Beastman in the tribe to use as much as they wanted. Heck, it would last them for three years without any issue!
"This is all thanks to An Jin! Without her, we never could have gotten so much salt!"
Seeing all the tribespeople looking over at her with excitement, An Jin smiled shyly. She hadn’t expected them to have such an overwhelming reaction.
An Jin quickly said, "Everyone, let’s hurry and get the salt back into the village to be distributed. We don’t want any of the neighboring tribes getting greedy."
Manduo was handed over to the Clan Leader. Amid the curses of the entire tribe, a Giant Eagle Beastman carried him into the sky and dropped him into the forbidden lands deep within the mountain range.
The forbidden lands were teeming with packs of wild animals, herds of Giant Beasts, and even swarms of terrifyingly ferocious Demon Beasts.
Never mind a half-crippled, unconscious man—even someone as powerful as Ling Hong might not make it out of there alive.
「On the other side of the foothills」
Lin Xixue and the Barbarian Bear Tribe were heading back to their village like beaten dogs, covered in dust.
The mood was somber the entire way, as if the Beastmen could already foresee their tribe’s impending doom.
Nearly all the Beastmen were starving, so weak they barely had the strength to walk. The supplies they carried amounted to less than a third of what they’d gotten in previous years.
All the Beastmen were deeply disappointed.
Weak and starving, the Barbarian Bear Tribe would become a prime target for invasion by neighboring tribes during the great cold season when food was scarce.
"AHH—!"
Lin Xixue suddenly let out a sharp scream, a piercing pain stabbing at her heart. She lifted her beast-hide bustier and discovered the gray wolf mark on her chest had vanished.
"Manduo..."
Tears streamed down her face as Lin Xixue cried out, her expression haggard with grief. "I will avenge you! I swear I won’t let the Luoten Tribe get away with this!"
But after crying for only a moment, she wiped her tears away. All traces of sorrow had vanished from her eyes.
She had spent the last few days swaggering around Beast Gathering City, flaunting her beauty, and had long since attracted the covetous gazes of certain ill-intentioned Beastmen.
The sky suddenly darkened. Countless giant eagles circled high above, each with a wingspan of nearly five meters, blotting out the sun and bringing with them a mass of dark clouds.
The leader, a Golden Feathered Giant Eagle, dove down, its sharp talons sinking into Lin Xixue’s arm.
"AHHH, LET GO OF ME!" Lin Xixue cried out in pain—this time, the tears were real.
Duo Lai’s eyes widened in fury. Ripping through his beast-hide loincloth, he transformed into a giant brown bear nearly three meters tall. He swung a furious fist, but he was no match for the Golden Feathered Giant Eagle, which dove like a meteor with astonishing speed.
"SCREE—" The eagle’s other free talon struck the Bear Beast’s chest. It clenched abruptly, and ripped the Fifth Rank Bear Beast’s heart right out, flesh, blood, and all.
"ROAR—"
The brown bear’s agonized roar was cut short as its massive body fell backward, shaking the ground like a small mountain collapsing.
The familiar, heart-rending pain struck her again.
Panicked, Lin Xixue looked down at her left breast and saw that the brown bear mark had vanished as well.
’In one day—no... in half a day, within a single hour, both of her mates were dead?!’
Lin Xixue’s tears began to flow uncontrollably.
Duo Lai was a powerful Fifth Rank Beastman, yet this eagle had killed him in a single blow. Lin Xixue tried to convince herself it was all a nightmare.
Suddenly, someone licked the hot tears from her face. The Golden Feathered Giant Eagle had transformed into a handsome, long-haired golden man. He pulled her into his arms and tilted her sharp chin up. "So beautiful... even more so up close. You’re so lovely even when you cry..."
Six golden marks were emblazoned on the golden-haired man’s chest, signifying that he was an exceptionally powerful Sixth Rank Beastman.
Lin Xixue leaned against his chest, her face pale. She trembled like a delicate flower, a pitiable sight. She heard a low laugh rumble from the man’s muscular chest. "I noticed you back in Beast Gathering City. Now that the City Lord and my brother aren’t here to keep me in line, I can finally take you for myself..."
