Favorite of the Beast-world: I Got Rich Through Farming-Chapter 73 - 70: Eating Shrimp
The mist had grown thicker over the past few days, and every breath felt like inhaling a mouthful of water. The great rainy season was about to arrive, which meant they would be departing in just a few days.
Beast Gathering City was by the sea, so seafood was exceptionally abundant. The tide had been high for the past few days, leaving the beach crawling with all sorts of shrimp, fish, and crabs. A single stroll was enough to fill a large bucket.
Tired of roasted meat, An Jin decided it was time for a change of pace. She went with Ling Hong and a few other Beastmen to the beach to gather some seafood. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
With a flick of his serpentine tail, Mi Yin went along too.
"So many crabs!"
An Jin’s eyes lit up. She ran halfway across the soft sand, barefoot, and managed to fill half her basket with crabs, along with some stranded little fish, shrimp, and seashells.
Seeing that the basket had chafed a red mark on the female’s shoulder, Mi Yin inconspicuously slithered to her side. His voice was cool and deep. "I’ll carry that for you."
"Okay." An Jin didn’t stand on ceremony. She readily slipped the basket off her shoulders and handed it to him.
Mi Yin bent down, holding the basket with one hand and scooping An Jin up into his other arm. He then lowered his head and licked the red mark on her shoulder with his forked tongue, his eyes filled with tender concern.
Ling Hong, who had been rushing over from a distance, stopped dead in his tracks. He had been about to offer his help, but he never expected this Snake Beast to beat him to it.
’That feeling of irritation grew more and more intense.’
He kicked at the sand and pebbles, then silently walked away.
When they returned from their foraging, they had over ten baskets of seafood, mostly crabs and lobsters. It was the perfect season for crabs; they were plump and full of rich roe.
Ling Hong helped An Jin with the prep work. By the time dinner was served that evening, a large pot of boiled shrimp and a platter of stir-fried crabs in sauce were placed on the large stone table in the courtyard.
The boiled shrimp were light and salty. A single bite of the stir-fried crab filled one’s mouth with a savory aroma and rich, meaty roe.
Ling Hong was especially attentive today, peeling a full bowl of shrimp for An Jin.
She had taught him the proper way to eat them before, and he remembered everything. He peeled the shrimp and deveined them in one smooth motion.
Just then, An Jin happened to yawn.
Ling Hong seized the opportunity, scooping up a large spoonful of shrimp and popping it into her mouth.
"Omph~" An Jin froze for a moment. Feeling the unexpected mouthful, her cheeks unconsciously puffed out, making her look like a cute, clever little hamster.
The tender, salty shrimp filled her mouth, so satisfying it felt like she could fly.
Nearby, Mi Yin’s expression darkened. His black and red tail, coiled around the female, tensed and scraped restlessly as he fought the urge to whip the Wolf Beast away.
He silently averted his gaze, picked up two shrimp, and began to mimic the peeling process. But he couldn’t control his strength, and he crushed the soft meat and shell into a paste.
He tried another, and crushed it into paste again...
The next one, crushed again...
"HISS~" Mi Yin’s blood-red pupils contracted, narrowing into dangerous slits.
"Alright, alright, I’ll peel them for you. If you keep crushing them, there won’t be any left for us to eat," An Jin said with a laugh, then easily peeled two shrimp for Mi Yin.
Mi Yin flicked his forked tongue, happily eating the shrimp right from her hand. The fresh, sweet taste made his eyes light up. "Delicious."
’It’s even better than raw meat, and what’s more, it’s shrimp that Jin’er peeled for him with her own hands.’
’A sweet feeling blossomed in Mi Yin’s heart.’
Ling Hong’s heart felt even stuffier. He looked at his own empty stone bowl and said pointedly, "I want to eat shrimp, too."
An Jin gave him a strange look, her hands never stopping. "Don’t you know how to peel them? If you want some, just eat. I can’t eat that many, so these are all for you."
"...Oh." Ling Hong lowered his head in disappointment and silently peeled a shrimp for himself. He gobbled it down in a few bites, but it tasted completely bland.
’Damn it. For some reason, the shrimp in the Snake Beast’s bowl seems way more delicious than the ones in mine.’
