Chapter 72: Chapter 69: Agreeing to Move In

Mi Yin was a Sixth Rank Beastman and an incredibly ferocious Wandering Beast. Even fighting alone, he was strong enough to send a chill down your spine.

The advantage Ling Hong’s group had in numbers was quickly nullified by Mi Yin’s overwhelming strength.

Aside from the Silver Wolf, who dodged swiftly and only sustained minor injuries, the other Wolf Beasts were all sent flying into the trees by a single strike from Mi Yin’s tail.

"AWOOO~" A chorus of mournful howls rose from the pack.

’This Wandering Beast is too ferocious! We can’t beat him. If this goes on, we’re all going to die.’

"HISS~"

Mi Yin’s pupils had narrowed into dangerous slits. This particular trait only appeared when he was in the throes of an extremely exhilarating hunt.

His thick, long, black-and-red tail casually coiled around a Wolf Beast that had fallen nearby, tightening with the wolf’s every breath and struggle.

The Wolf Beast’s fangs were completely unable to pierce his dense, hard scales.

The faint CRACK of breaking bones could be heard.

An Jin rushed over and tried to move his tail with her hands, but she wasn’t nearly strong enough. "Mi Yin, let him go! He’s one of my people! They meant no harm!"

The Wolf Beasts staggered to their feet, glaring angrily at the bloodthirsty, cruel Wandering Beast before them.

"AWOO!"

Mi Yin’s expression was icy, his tail scraping and twitching restlessly on the ground. But when his eyes met the female’s slightly angry, dark-brown gaze, he forced down the impulse to strike out again.

He released his tail, tossing the barely breathing Wolf Beast aside, and scooped the female into his arms.

He lowered his head, his expression softening. His forked tongue flicked out, affectionately nudging her cheek in an attempt to placate her. "I was wrong," he whispered. "Don’t be angry, Jin’er."

The Wolf Beasts realized something was off. An Jin didn’t seem to be resisting the Snake Beast’s affection. ’Could it be this Wandering Beast isn’t here to abduct her?’

"It was these young hotheads. They lost their composure and attacked without thinking."

Ling Hong shifted back to his human form and jumped down from the tree, giving a light kick to a few of the Wolf Beasts, who hung their heads in shame.

"What in the world is going on?" Ling Hong looked at An Jin, completely baffled by what she was planning.

Ling Hong hadn’t forgotten what this Wandering Beast had said to him last time. ’Hmph! What does he mean, "his female"? Just thinking about it makes my fangs ache. I can’t help but want to tear a huge chunk of flesh from that snake tail.’

"When I was trapped by the fire, it was the Snake Beast who saved me. Otherwise, you might never have seen me again." An Jin explained everything that had happened in detail, adding that Mi Yin had suffered severe burns and needed to recuperate here for a while.

The Wolf Beasts were absolutely obedient and loyal. An Jin was the second pillar of their community, so they naturally believed her without a doubt.

This was despite the fact that, as far as they knew, there was no precedent for a Wandering Beast saving someone out of kindness.

Their hostility toward Mi Yin dissipated considerably, though an instinctive wariness of Wandering Beasts remained in their hearts.

"I’ll bandage your wounds in a bit. The seriously injured ones should rest for a few days and not go hunting." Seeing how badly the Wolf Beasts had been beaten, An Jin felt a pang of guilt, blaming herself for not warning them ahead of time.

Ling Hong walked over to An Jin and said casually, "It’s fine. These injuries are nothing to them. They’ll be up and about by tomorrow."

The Wolf Beasts quickly agreed. They were tough, hardy males; as long as they weren’t dying, they couldn’t possibly waste precious herbs.

Although things had gotten off to a rocky start with a fight, at least her people had accepted Mi Yin’s presence and agreed to let him stay for a few days.

But when evening came, the room assignments became a problem. An Jin had always shared a small, cramped stone house off to the side with Ling Hong, while the seven larger houses were assigned to the other beastmen.

Mi Yin, naturally, was going to stick to An Jin’s side. Making him share a room with the other beastmen was out of the question. Not only would An Jin be worried, but even if the others agreed, the entire house would be too terrified to sleep.

This meant Ling Hong had to move out. Fortunately, the Beast World had no concept of "falling out of favor," but a certain wolf still felt a heavy feeling in his chest. "You’ll be in here with the Snake Beast," he said. "I’ll go squeeze in with the others."

Ling Hong was feeling dejected. Unable to sleep that night, he shifted into his wolf form and lay by the doorway, watching the stars for a long time. The cool, white moonlight seemed to kiss his silver fur.

It was the first time in his life he had ever felt such an emotion, but Ling Hong couldn’t explain why.
