Favorite of the Beast-world: I Got Rich Through Farming-Chapter 358 - 238: Moldy Ham and a Rainy Season Surprise
Ling Hong and Mi Yin reluctantly leaned in for a sniff. Although there was indeed no smell of rot, the two males didn’t let their guard down.
Both of them were pitiful cubs who had starved as children and had developed a habit of hoarding food ever since. This food looked exactly the same as the rotten food they used to hide at home or in caves as kids.
An Jin said, "If you really don’t believe me, you’ll know once you taste it. In all these years, when have I ever lied to you?"
"Fine, but I’ll eat first," Mi Yin nodded. ’If it was really rotten and poisonous, my body could definitely handle it.’
Giving in to his mate’s pleas and persistence, Ling Hong, despite his doubts about the food’s safety, did as he was told and carried the ham back home.
After filling a basin with water from the pipe, he spent the next half-hour scrubbing it clean.
To the surprise of everyone but An Jin, scrubbing the mold off the surface of the ham revealed a healthy, meaty color.
This was a three-year-old ham, after all. It was a miracle it hadn’t rotted completely. Through the faint meaty color, one could even smell a unique, savory aroma from within.
Before An Jin could return from the kitchen with a knife, Mi Yin extended his sharp nails and sliced the ham into several pieces, revealing the marbled red and white meat within.
He picked up a slice and put it directly into his mouth.
There was none of the rotten taste or foul smell he expected. On the contrary, it was unbelievably delicious, a mixture of his favorite things: the firm texture and rich taste of raw meat, and the fragrant aroma of seasoned, cooked food.
He licked his lips, wanting more, but still didn’t let An Jin eat right away. In a deep voice, he said, "Wait a little longer."
’He couldn’t yet tell if the ham was truly this delicious, or if the mold was just tricking his taste buds.’
Only after confirming that there were no adverse effects on his body did he give the plate of meat he had been holding protectively to An Jin. "You can eat now."
Ling Hong had also made a simple fruit salad. He pushed aside the kitchen’s door curtain and placed it in front of her.
"Eat it with this. I added some sweetened beast milk on top. It tastes pretty good. I think you’ll like it."
It was breakfast, after all, so she couldn’t eat much. She was full after just a couple of bites.
"You two eat, too. This ham is really good—salty and tender!" She began to sing the praises of her masterpiece, even cutting two small plates of the delicious meat just for them.
"Mm, it really is delicious." Ling Hong also took a couple of small bites. It was indeed tastier than ordinary meat products. "This is the best cured meat I’ve ever eaten. It’s not too salty or dry; it’s just right. Unlike normal cured meat that’s dry and salty, this one gets more fragrant the more you chew..." He didn’t hold back his praise.
But the two of them didn’t eat much. Instead, they sealed most of the ham up again in the freezer, to be taken out whenever she wanted to eat it.
Just as they finished breakfast, a torrential downpour began outside. The sound of rain mixed with the wind and thunder, and the world outside suddenly became dim and dangerous.
For the first couple of days of the rainy season, An Jin, out of sheer boredom, had the leisure to lie by the window and admire the unique rainy scenery of the Beast World. But now, looking at this non-stop, terrifying thunderstorm, she just felt annoyed and bored.
The rainy season was only half a month in, but she was already looking forward to it being over.
But as soon as the rainy season ended, it would be the Great Cold Season.
’Most of that time would also be spent cooped up in the house, lazing around. So boring, having nothing to do.’
While she was lost in thought, a cool, slender snake tail quietly coiled around her slender waist and purposefully pulled her back with a gentle tug, making her fall against a strong, firm chest.
Mi Yin wrapped his arms around her waist from behind, resting his chin in the crook of her neck. His distinctly serpentine chill washed over her ear, brazenly overwhelming all her senses.
"You promised you’d keep me company." His words held a barely perceptible whine, mixed with his usual forcefulness and dominance.
"When did I say I wouldn’t keep you company?" An Jin tilted her small face up, just in time to meet his descending lips. The words she hadn’t yet finished speaking were forced back into her mouth.
His forked tongue hooked her soft one, tangling together intimately, inviting it to dance, to sink into oblivion together.
"Mmph..." Her eyes grew hazy. She subconsciously pushed at him, but had no strength at all.
Mi Yin wrapped his arms under her legs, lifting her so she could hook them around his lean waist. This also kept her from collapsing when her legs gave out.
"It’s still daytime," she forced herself back to her senses and said reproachfully.
Mi Yin lazily glanced at the sky, which had long since grown dark from the storm. "It’s not early anymore." He turned back, looked down at her, his breathing growing tight again. "Jin’er, it’s so hard for me to hold back. I want to ma—"
