Chapter 62: ARE YOU PITYING ME, FUCKER!?

Drip... Drip...

Water droplets trickled steadily from Kai’s trembling palm as he knelt on the wet brick floor, his body hunched over in agony. His breath came in ragged, uneven gasps, each exhale sharp and pained.

Inside him, it felt like his very organs were being roasted alive—every nerve screamed in torment. His skin stung like fire, muscles twitching involuntarily under the lingering effect of the taser that had just shocked him down to the bone.

His limbs refused to obey him. He couldn’t move, not even a finger. Everything felt numb and unbearably heavy, as though his entire body was made of stone—paralysed, useless, and abandoned.

It was like he was trapped in his own flesh.

His eyes were bloodshot, the whites nearly overtaken by a furious crimson. He gritted his teeth in disbelief, rage boiling in his veins.

This wasn’t how it was supposed to go.

He had been taken down... by a taser?

A fucking taser?

Seriously?

He was a Mage!!

A wielder of destructive power!

And yet... he had been dropped to his knees by a simple electric shock?

"F-Fucking serious, man?"

HHe rasped, trying to spit the taste of humiliation from his mouth.

"B-Bastard... Can’t you fight like a man!?"

His voice cracked as he forced the words out from a throat that felt like sandpaper.

Across from him stood Leo, silent and unblinking, his hand still clenched around the taser’s trigger. The device had already drained its battery, its charge exhausted, but Leo’s grip remained locked.

His thumb trembled slightly as he clicked the button again and again, the taser now lifeless in his grasp.

There was no victory smirk on Leo’s face—just a cold, blank stare.

After a moment, he let the taser fall from his hand. It clattered into the shallow puddle beside his boot with a metallic splash. Leo stepped forward slowly, his legs shaking faintly, still feeling the minor shocks that had travelled through the water and licked at his own nerves.

But it was nothing compared to what Kai was enduring.

His boot stomped down into the puddle, sending water splashing around Kai’s motionless form. He stood tall over the broken mage, casting a long, menacing shadow over him. His eyes didn’t blink.

They just stared—burning with something cold and sharp.

"How is it?"

Leo asked, his voice soft but loaded with weight.

"H-Huh...?"

Kai barely managed to raise his head. Every movement was agony. His muscles felt torn and scorched from within. But he forced his blood-soaked face up, just enough to meet Leo’s emotionless gaze.

Leo continued,

"How do you feel now... having your insides burned?!"

"Is that how those people felt?! When their skin peeled away under the flames, you caused?!"

Without warning, Leo kicked Kai in the chest—hard.

The impact launched Kai backwards. His body flopped like a ragdoll through the puddles, arms sprawled, back soaked.

He landed with a dull thud, wheezing painfully, gasping for air through clenched teeth.

Kai growled low under his breath, his hands twitching as he tried to regain control over his useless limbs. He mumbled to himself, desperate to summon strength, to at least move a little—anything.

But before he could even blink, Leo marched forward and kicked him again—this time in the gut.

"ARRHH!!"

Kai screamed as the blow forced blood to spit from his mouth. The brutal kicks didn’t stop. One after another, Leo’s boots slammed into his ribs, his stomach, his back.

Each kick echoed with fury, wet with blood and splashing puddles.

"How does it feel now, huh!?"

Leo shouted, his voice filled with rage and disgust.

"Getting beaten like this, asshole? You never imagined you’d get the same treatment you gave others, did you?!"

Kai couldn’t respond. His mouth was agape, his face twisted in pain. His body convulsed under each merciless strike. His blood painted Leo’s boots and the floor beneath them.

Pride stood to the side, silent as stone. Her eyes narrowed, but she didn’t interfere.

Ophis blinked, watching closely. She was surprised—no, intrigued.

Leo hadn’t used magic. He didn’t need spells or enchantments. He used raw tactics. He brought that man to his knees with cleverness and fury.

That alone earned her acknowledgement.

Finally, Leo stopped. His chest heaved from the exertion, breath steaming in the cold air. Blood dripped from Kai’s split lip, his face already bruised, his body broken—but his expression still held that same wicked grin.

Leo crouched slowly, squatting down until he was face-to-face with the man he once feared.

Kai’s eyes were burning from hatred. Pure, insane hatred.

"Yeah... that’s more like it..."

Leo muttered, a twisted smile creeping up on his lips. He grabbed a fistful of Kai’s bloody hair and yanked his head up.

"Tell me..." Leo hissed, face inches away,

"...Do you even feel the slightest bit of remorse for the people you killed? Do you understand what it means to take a life? Do you feel anything when you hear them scream?"

He tightened his grip, pulling so hard it looked like he might rip Kai’s hair from his skull.

Kai coughed up more blood, his lips red and cracked, but his smile only widened.

"Haha... Haha..."

He spat at the ground, still laughing through the pain.

"I... I think it’s worth it... just to see your pain..."

Leo’s eye twitched. His jaw clenched so hard it looked like it might crack.

His whole body trembled from rage. Pure, boiling hatred.

This man... this thing... felt nothing.

Not even guilt. Not even shame. The lives of innocent people meant nothing to him.

Kai grinned again, his mouth stained red with blood.

"W-What? Feeling sorry for the weak now? Feeling noble, are you? Hah... You’re pathetic..."

He shouted the words, voice cracked but vicious. Despite his broken ribs, despite the pain flooding through every inch of his ruined body, he looked genuinely happy.

"Look at you... so angry... so helpless. Tsk. If not for you..." he continued, spitting blood, "that entire school would’ve been nothing but a bloody playground... Tsk, tsk... pity I didn’t get to kill them all..."

Leo’s fists trembled. His veins bulged on his forehead. He stared into Kai’s eyes—eyes that held no regret, no sorrow.

Only amusement. Wickedness. Joy.

Just a monster in human skin.

"Monster..." Leo whispered.

Kai chuckled even harder, the sound wet and manic, echoing through the blood-splattered path. His crimson-stained teeth flashed through his grin, streaks of fresh blood trailing down his chin. His voice dripped with glee as he leaned forward slightly.

"Oh yeah... I’m worse than a monster..." he sneered, eyes glinting with madness.

"I’ll do anything to reach my goal. Lie, kill, destroy, burn... there’s no line I won’t cross. Can you say the same?"

Leo frowned, his expression unreadable.

Kai tilted his head, his grin stretching wider, teeth now fully soaked in red.

"I can see it now... you’re weak. Soft. Hesitating..." His eyes flicked to the side.

"If it were that bitch—" he jerked his chin toward Ophis,

"—she would’ve already sliced my throat open instead of standing around like some shitty hero trying to talk about sadness and justice! Hahahaha... Hahaha....HAHAA!!"

His laugh was shrill, cruel, echoing like a curse. Water and blood splashed around him as he shifted slightly.

Leo was still staring at him blankly. But his fingers trembled. A single shake. Barely visible. Yet that was all Kai needed to confirm his thoughts.

"Ah... there it is..." Kai whispered, delighted.

"You’re scared, aren’t you? Fucking scared little pussy."

His face twisted with manic joy as he screamed.

"Kill me! Go on! KILL ME!! What are you waiting for?! Huh?! You got the balls or not?!"

He howled the words like a lunatic as Leo’s expression slowly changed—hesitation and something softer flickering behind his eyes.

"Hahaha... Come on, Leo... kill me already... I’m waiting~"

Kai purred mockingly, his voice suddenly low and dripping with malice.

Pride, standing silently near Leo, narrowed her eyes. As much as she wanted to interfere, she held back. There was something she needed to see. Something only Leo could show her. Her eyes locked on him alone.

"What are you waiting for?! Kill him already!" Ophis snapped, her voice cutting through the tension.

Her fury was boiling over—this entire scene grated on her nerves. Watching Kai mock and laugh, even on the brink of death, was maddening.

Kai felt a flicker of nervousness inside him, a twitch in his gut—but he buried it beneath his grin.

Then—

"...I’m not a monster..."

Leo muttered under his breath, his voice barely audible.

His head lowered, shadows covering his face. His hands clenched at his sides, veins bulging along his neck and arms. He looked like he was holding back an explosion.

But when he looked up again, his expression was different. Something primal simmered just beneath his skin.

"You already lost..." Leo said slowly, his voice cold like iron.

"You’re nothing now. Just a mouth that won’t stop running. A dog barking at its own death."

He stared into Kai’s eyes without blinking.

"You’re begging for death... but I won’t give it to you."

Leo slowly straightened, rising from his crouch, muscles tight and twitching with restraint.

"I give your pathetic life back to you,"

He said firmly.

"We’re leaving. One way or another... you’ll die anyway."

With that, Leo turned away, walking with quiet steps, water splashing faintly beneath his boots. Pride followed him in silence, her gaze still fixed on the storm behind his eyes.

Ophis blinked, caught off guard.

But then—

"ARE YOU PITYING ME, FUCKER!?"

Kai’s voice erupted like thunder. His face contorted with rage, veins pulsing at his temple. He forced his battered body upright, arms trembling violently, blood dripping freely from his wounds.

His whole form shook with fury and disbelief.

"You think I need your fucking pity?!"

He spit on the ground, staggering on his knees.

"I’d rather die than be pitied by some useless, soft piece of shit like you!"

Leo didn’t stop. He didn’t even turn his head.

That silence... made something inside Kai snap.

"Hahaha... go on... walk away like a coward! Just WALK AWAY!"

Kai’s lips curled back into a wicked grin, eyes wide and blazing.

"But don’t forget what you just did, LEO. Don’t forget what you left alive!"

He bared his teeth now, almost foaming.

"You’ve only got your aunt left, right? Hehehe... Damn, she’s hot for a doctor. Soft skin... sweet lips..."

His voice dropped into a sick, venomous tone.

"I’ll break her. Oh, I’ll take my time. And when I’m done, I’ll break everyone you love. One by one... slow and loud..."

His laughter twisted into a growl.

"I want to see your breaking face, Leo!

I want to see you scream!

I want you to remember you could’ve stopped me and you didn’t!!

Would you let me live again then?!

Would you still walk away?! Hahaha... HAHAHAHA—"

Chucckkkkkk...

The sound was sickening—wet, sharp... final!

Kai’s voice cut off mid-laugh.

The laughter died.

And in its place, silence.

Heavy... cold... deafening silence.

Only the sound of blood dripping onto the wet floor remained.

Drip... drip...
