Extra's Path: The Eternal Frost Monarch-Chapter 56: Weight Of Responsibility (1)
It was nighttime, yet Adrian came back to his office.
He slumped down in his chair after a long day.
They had gone through something terrible that the academy had never faced in so many years. A single person had entered and killed so many students, yet they couldn’t do anything.
Now he had to answer to the parents who had lost their children. They had believed in the academy as a place that could make them stronger, better. Not to kill them.
Adrian rubbed his temples, his expression heavy and tired.
"Malrick..." he muttered, his eyes narrowing slightly as the name left his lips.
Just then, he noticed a black metallic device on the table. It was small, something that could be held in his palm easily.
Adrian’s gaze sharpened instantly.
His tired expression disappeared, replaced by cold alertness.
He slowly leaned forward, narrowing his eyes further, already guessing who had placed it there.
"Is this... put here by the same man who attacked inside the academy... or is there another person... who works for Malrick while staying here at the academy?...I need to check cameras..but probably it won’t have anything. They won’t make such normal mistake." Adrian muttered under his breath, suspicion flickering across his face.
He extended his hand and touched the flat surface of the device. The moment his fingers made contact.
The device suddenly lit up. A blue light emerged from its surface, illuminating Adrian’s face with a cold glow.
His eyes reflected that light as his expression turned serious. A screen formed in the air, and a video started playing on it.
In the video sat a man behind a desk. The moment Adrian saw him. His eyes narrowed further. A faint tension appeared in his jaw.
He was of a similar age to Adrian. Long white hair with some grey streaks was tied in a ponytail, indicating age. His violet eyes were sharp and indifferent, and a white beard covered his lower face.
Adrian’s fingers slowly curled into a fist on the armrest.
"If you are watching this video, that means the incident has already occurred in the academy. It must have been successful. How did you like my gift, Adrian... my old friend?"
The man’s heavy voice came out from the video.
Adrian’s gaze turned colder. Even though it was just a recording, the weight behind those words was undeniable.
A faint muscle in Adrian’s cheek twitched, but he remained silent.
"Now you must be wondering why I did this? Well, you already know the answer. Didn’t I say to you years ago... I won’t ever forgive you... and now it’s time for me to make my moves. Firstly, I attacked the academy you took care of for so many years as Principal."
The man smirked mockingly. At that moment, Adrian’s eyes hardened.
His fingers tightened slightly, nails pressing into his palm.
"You know... it was just a small attack. Done by a single man. Nothing special. I just wanted to show you what I am capable of. This was just a small picture... you don’t know what things I am planning for you... I will slowly destroy the things that you care about... that you owned... and then finally you..."
A faint shadow passed through Adrian’s eyes. For a brief moment, something deeper flickered within them. It was anger. But it was controlled. He suppressed it. His breathing remained steady.
"For now, enjoy your remaining next few peaceful days... because they won’t be peaceful for much longer."
With a smile, the man said, "Bye."
The video ended.
The blue light that was hovering above vanished instantly. The room fell silent again.
Adrian remained sitting there, unmoving. His eyes were still fixed on the empty space where the screen had been.
His expression was calm. But the slight tightening of his jaw, and the faint crease between his brows. They spoke otherwise.
Adrian remained seated for a long moment after the video ended, his hand still resting on the now lifeless device.
The faint blue glow had vanished, leaving the room dim and heavy with silence.
Slowly, he leaned back in his chair. A long breath escaped his lips. "...Haaah."
He closed his eyes and rubbed his temples again, this time more firmly, as if trying to push away the growing weight in his mind.
"There’s no way he’s just doing this for revenge..." he muttered under his breath, his voice low and thoughtful.
His brows furrowed deeply.
"If it was only revenge... he wouldn’t move like this. Not after all these years."
Adrian opened his eyes again. The calmness in them had returned, but beneath that calm surface, there was a sharp intensity.
"What are you trying to achieve, Malrick...?" he whispered.
His fingers tapped lightly against the armrest of the chair, a habit he had when thinking deeply.
"Where were you all these years... and why now?"
His gaze shifted toward the window behind his desk. The night outside was quiet, almost too quiet, as if the world itself was unaware of the storm that had begun.
He leaned forward slightly, resting his elbows on the desk, intertwining his fingers.
"An attack on the academy... using a controlled body... creating a barrier strong enough to stop even me..."
His eyes narrowed.
"And killing some students to give me pressure.."
A faint, almost invisible frown appeared on his face. "You are planning something bigger."
He leaned back again, his expression turning colder. "This wasn’t just to hurt me... this was preparation." 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
Buzz... Buzz... Buzz...
The communication device on his desk lit up again, vibrating continuously. Adrian glanced at it briefly, irritation flashing across his eyes before it was suppressed.
He picked it up and answered calmly. He already knew who it might belong to.
"Yes."
A voice came from the other side, hurried and tense. It was one of the higher authorities.
Afterall he need to give reply to others.
