Chapter 57: Weight Of Responsibility (2)

A voice came from the other side, hurried and tense. It was one of the higher authorities.

"Principal Adrian, we need an immediate explanation regarding today’s incident. Parents are already filing complaints, and some are demanding accountability—"

"I am aware," Adrian interrupted calmly, though his tone carried authority.

"We are currently assessing the situation. A full report will be provided soon."

"That is not enough. Do you realize the scale of what has happened? Students are dead—"

"I said I am aware," Adrian repeated, this time his voice slightly colder.

There was a brief silence from the other side.

Adrian continued, his tone now steady but firm.

"The academy will take full responsibility where it is due. But right now, my priority is ensuring the safety of the remaining students and preventing another incident."

"...Understood."

The call ended. Adrian placed the device back on the table slowly.

For a moment, he just stared at it. Then another call came. The information about this incident traveled fast.

Mostly because of other students who already informed their parents about this incident.

Many students being children of high ranking family. While some parents of dead students calling.

For the next several minutes, Adrian remained occupied, answering questions, giving controlled responses, and dealing with pressure from influential figures.

Each call demanded answers. Each call carried blame, fear, or anger.

Yet Adrian’s expression barely changed.

He remained calm. With controlled and unshaken heart he handled everything.

But once the calls finally stopped. Silence returned to the room.

Adrian exhaled again, this time more deeply. His shoulders relaxed slightly, but his eyes remained sharp.

"Weak..."

He muttered the word quietly. "That’s what he’ll think of this."

His gaze drifted downward. "A single man entered... killed students..."

His fingers clenched slightly. "And I couldn’t stop it...but I observed the barrier well...it will take few days to decode it...next time it won’t work."

Adrian well knew the capabilities Malrick possessed. When it came to magic, he excelled Adrian.

Forming a barrier that couldn’t let anyone enter... not even him... only he could create something like that.

That’s why, when he first touched the barrier, he understood the one who might be behind it.

It was made for especially Adrian to not enter, or anyone who was less strong than him.

Only someone stronger than Adrian could break it.

For the first time, a faint trace of frustration appeared on his face. But it disappeared just as quickly.

Emotions had no place here.

He stood up slowly from his chair and walked toward the window.

Looking out into the dark academy grounds, he spoke softly. "I failed them."

A brief silence followed. Then his expression hardened again.

"But I won’t fail again."

He turned back toward the desk, his movements now decisive.

"I need information."

His mind began organizing everything rapidly.

"The one who fought that man... those students..."

"Damien... Regnar... Draven... Arisha... Lyria...and Noah"

He recalled their names one by one.

"They saw him up close. Fought him directly."

His eyes narrowed slightly. "They might have noticed something... anything unusual."

He walked back to his desk and picked up another device, activating it.

"Prepare a report on the students involved in the battle at the eastern sector and bring it to me," he ordered.

"And arrange for me to meet them once they recover."

A voice responded immediately, "Yes, Principal."

The device went silent again. Adrian stood there for a moment, thinking. Then his gaze slowly shifted back to the black metallic device on his desk.

His eyes turned cold.

"Malrick..."

He spoke the name quietly. "This time... I won’t wait."

The room fell silent once again. But this time it wasn’t the silence of exhaustion. It was the silence before a storm.

---

It was Monday.

Noah and the others had rested the night of Saturday and half of Sunday.

Now it was Monday, and classes were going to start as usual.

But that didn’t mean the atmosphere of the Academy was like usual.

It was more gloomy, filled with fear.

The Academy was filled with so many strong individuals, and even a principal who was one of the strongest people in the world.

Yet someone had entered and brought chaos. Many students died. Most of them belonged to the first year.

It was as if the man who planned this chose a time when mostly first years were present in that area at that time,

who were not too strong or experienced, so easy to hunt.

The classroom was silent,

not like other days when it was filled with chattering.

Noah sat on the back bench of the classroom, 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

while the main characters sat at the front.

It was a sad thing for Noah that Regnar and Draven weren’t in his class.

They were in B-2 class.

Noah really thought that he could be good friends with them.

Just then, the sound of heels clicking against the floor came into the silent classroom.

It pulled Noah out of his thoughts.

He looked forward at the blackboard, where Morgana Celestine was standing with her cold expression.

Today, her hair was tied in a bun. She was wearing a white shirt with long sleeves rolled up, the end of her shirt neatly tucked inside her black trousers.

She looked as beautiful and attractive as always.

But today, even Noah didn’t feel like admiring it.

The current situation was just too bad for him to be normal.

"As you all know... we lost some of our friends on Saturday. It was an incident that no one had ever thought about..."

Her amethyst eyes traveled over the students calmly. A few lowered their heads, while others clenched their fists.

"As for not being able to save our students and workers... the Principal has already apologized to all of you in the auditorium yesterday..."

Noah listened to her words, knowing about it.

Since he and the others were recovering, they didn’t attend it.

But they had heard about it.

Morgana paused for a moment, her gaze hardening slightly.

"But remember this, students... take this as a lesson."

The room grew even quieter.

"This is exactly why you must train harder... become stronger. Because the next time someone attacks you... no one may come to save you."

A student swallowed nervously. Another looked down at their trembling hands.

"You will have to defend yourselves... and if needed..."

Her voice turned colder.

"Kill your enemies."

A faint chill spread through the classroom.

"The world is not a peaceful place. Remember that." Her eyes sharpened as she looked at each of them. "It is cruel... and unpredictable."

She straightened slightly, her voice rising with authority. "So you will give it your all."

After that she sighed.

Then she contiued with serious voice."We won’t have any lecture for today...also the VR-battle you guys were supposed to have this week is postponed for next two weeks. We decided to give you more time to recover from this incident, also to cool down things. But your classes and training will continue like always."

The VR battle was postponed further. Noah didn’t care about VR Battle. He leaned back agaisnt the bench. While he continued to hear her words. Even Noah was not good mood today.
