Chapter 44: Amaira and 208 [2]

’Huh? What?’

Mikhail found it hard to believe her words.

The entire identity of the Inshel Kingdom was built around avenging what the elf king had done to the God of War.

’And she is saying they don’t even worship him...come to think of it, she might be right.’

The human nature of submitting to those stronger for personal benefit was well known.

So, changing allegiance to a different god for more power wasn’t far-fetched.

208 asked doubtfully. "Are you sure?"

"Yes." She replied firmly. "They are now following the Angel of Light and worship only him."

The Angel of Light had once been a subordinate of the God of War.

He was one of the few who had been present when the God of War was killed by the elf king.

Mikhail leaned back in his chair and looked up at the starry space. ’Looks like things are really complicated with the Inshel Kingdom.’

He then looked back at the elven lady, who was anxiously waiting for his response.

’Did he not find my information satisfactory?’ She couldn’t help but wonder. ’....Maybe it was stupid information.’

208, who had been sitting silently, opened his mouth again. "The vampires have found a rift that leads to the ruins of the old dragon world."

Mikhail turned his head to look at 208, who immediately tensed under his gaze.

"T-they are searching through the ruins while fighting off the monsters inside." He stammered as he continued.

"It is said they have found a significant amount of new minerals that aren’t available anywhere else."

Mikhail nodded his head and leaned back slightly. "Do either of you have information about the Frenedic Empire?"

Since he had a book about the Frenedic language, and Basil Duncan had also used it, Mikhail felt like the Frenedic Empire was an important piece of destroyed world history.

’I also want to know how four archenemies came together to form an empire.’

Both of them shook their heads, making Mikhail feel a little disappointed.

’Why would he want that information?’ Amaira thought, unable to hide her curiosity. ’Is he somehow related to that Empire?’

The elven lady was thinking about the empire when something suddenly came back to her. ’How did I forget about the royal vault?’

She quickly said. "I can provide some information about it."

Mikhail looked at her in silence, giving her a fright.

"I see..."

He said and glanced at 208.

"I may be able to as well." He replied slowly. "But I am not strong enough to move around freely."

Mikhail nodded his head and didn’t say anything further.

’Ah, I don’t know their names.’ A thought came to him, but he immediately dropped the idea.

’If I ask their names then they will begin to doubt me.’

Thinking along those lines, he said in a deep voice. "What would you like me to call you?"

They both fell into deep thought trying to understand his words.

’He definitely knows who we are.’ 208 thought. ’Maybe this is his way of telling us that we still have some free will.’

’Are we getting code names?’ She thought, blinking her eyes. ’Should I choose a mysterious one or an impressive one?’

After a few minutes of silence, 208 spoke first. "Please just call me the Serpent."

’This is what I am...’ He thought with a deep sigh.

Amaira, who had been listening, felt her eyes light up, clearly misunderstanding him. ’Are we using dark zodiac signs?’

She quickly looked at the blurry faced man. "Then I would like to be called War Maiden."

Mikhail nodded and leaned back. "I do not have a name, so you can just call me Nameless."

They both nodded their heads as Mikhail said deeply. "Now, what reward do you want?"

At the same time, Mikhail used [Enhancement] on his luck.

Before Serpent could say anything, Mikhail offered. "I can help you awaken."

Serpent’s body visibly shuddered. "W-what?"

"Would you like me to Awaken you?" Mikhail asked again, his voice growing deeper. "You should know that the information you provided is not equal in worth to an awakening."

"I-I will repay my debt." He said, holding back his emotions. "I-I will do my best to help you."

208 was already in his early twenties, far past the age of awakening.

He had already given up on his life after losing his family.

Now, seeing a glimmer of hope, he couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed.

’I would sell my soul to get the strength to avenge my family!’

Mikhail nodded and thought of awakening him, and the screen returned.

Mikhail paid the price and immediately after, a warm feeling bloomed within 208.

He bathed in the feeling while Mikhail glanced at Amaira.

The lady jolted and hastily replied. "Can I not ask for anything today?" She let out an awkward smile. "I have everything that I need right now."

Mikhail nodded casually before he said. "Then I will see you next week at the same time."

They both quickly stepped off their chairs and bowed their heads. "As you wish."

Mikhail released his summons and they disintegrated into nothingness.

---

In the capital of the Kingdom of Doriath, Veronica Continent.

Within the castle of the royal elves, a young lady with long green hair slowly stood up from the floor.

Her blurry gaze shifted around before her eyes widened instantly.

"Was that a dream?" She couldn’t help but mumble as she got up.

Reaching her mirror, she looked at herself and found nothing amiss.

Amaira let out a deep sigh and sat on her bed. "I really saw something unbelievable."

She was still finding it hard to believe she had gotten to walk outside this place, even if just in spirit.

Just as she was thinking about the events, the door to her room opened up.

Six elven maids walked inside and bowed towards her.

"The royal dinner will start soon." They said in unison. "It’s time for you to get ready, Princess Amaira."

She drew in a deep breath and nodded her head. "Alright."

She glanced at the window and caught a glimpse of the moon.

’I hope I can get out of here soon.’

She walked towards the bathroom of the royal castle.

The same castle that was her prison.

---

208 woke up with a loud groan as he felt someone kick his stomach.

He clutched his midsection and looked up. A young vampire stood there with a smile on his face.

"Oh, looks like you are finally up." He spat in disgust. "The trash of the Corvus family."

Another young vampire laughed behind him. "The Corvus family is dead. It’s the Marath family who rule here."

The young vampire kicked 208 once again. "Get up, we are going inside."

208 groaned before looking up with groggy eyes at the rift gate.

He then shifted his gaze to his empty hand, instinctively feeling a change within himself.

The blood dripping from his mouth moved at his will.

"Hahaha."

208 let out a soft yet crazed laugh — a laugh of happiness and resentment.

He had awakened, three years after the complete eradication of his family.

---

Mikhail returned to his room and dropped onto the bed.

He was far too exhausted after using [Akashic Space] for so long.

’I need to sleep early.’

He thought, turning over when he felt Methew walking closer.

Mikhail grabbed his cat and raised him over his head with a smile.

’Hm?’

Just then Mikhail noticed something really fascinating.

Alongside his yellow fur, Methew was also growing stripes of black over his body.

"What are you?" Mikhail couldn’t help but ask out loud.

"Cat in black and yellow?"
