Chapter 43: Amaira and 208

’Uh, my new summons?’

Mikhail thought in confusion as he noticed the two beings in front of him.

Both Amaira and 208 had their heads lowered as if they were afraid of him.

Mikhail quickly understood the reason for it. ’...My height.’

He quickly returned himself to his normal size.

While doing so, he also used the Authority to make his face blurry.

When he was almost around their size did they both dare to look up.

’...Whose presence am I in?’

Amaira Doriath thought, glancing up curiously and fearfully.

"...Who are you?"

The young man beside Amaira asked in a language she didn’t understand.

’Is it Gothic?’ Mikhail thought, not understanding his words either.

Thinking quickly, he used the Authority to make everyone understand each other.

The two beings, who seemed to be in their soul form, suddenly felt a buzz in their minds.

Startled, they looked up, and the man with the blurry face was staring at them.

’What is happening?’ Amaira Doriath thought, quickly lowering her head.

Just then the blurry faced man spoke. "I am the ruler of this place."

They both looked around the vast universe and felt numb.

’I-is he a god?’ 208 thought as he swallowed audibly.

Being a vampire well versed in historical records, 208 was knowledgeable about gods.

He was sure only a God could claim to be ruler of the universe.

"....Why did you call us?" Amaira Doriath probed gently, still looking down.

Mikhail thought for a while before he replied honestly. "You are my summons."

’Summons?’

Both the vampire and the elf were aware of the word but understood it differently.

’So, we are his slaves?’ 208 thought grimly.

Since failing his awakening, 208 had already been degraded in ranking, but after the rise of the noble family he had now turned into a meat shield — a life worse than a slave’s.

’Are we his apostles?’ The elven girl thought delightfully.

Stories had circulated among the elves about beings powerful enough to be summoned by their Goddess.

Those beings were called apostles. The elf king who beheaded the God of War had been one of them.

’No! What are you thinking!?’ Amaira Doriath shook her head. ’He might just be some evil god and I am a sacrifice.’

Mikhail keenly observed their faces and was himself confused at the elven lady’s reaction.

’Why was she so happy for a second?’

Mikhail thought for a second and created a long bronze table with eleven seats.

The table looked old, with beautiful markings engraved in silver. The chairs held the same design, albeit less extravagant.

"Sit." Mikhail ordered as he took his seat at the head of the table.

The two of them didn’t dare to refuse him and sat down in the second row, leaving the two chairs closest to him empty.

Mikhail leaned back in his chair as a thought flickered in his mind. ’What should I do about them?’

He had called them without any real plan. Now he wasn’t sure what to do. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺

Mikhail gave the two of them a clear look. Both had distinct features.

’An elf and a vampire....’

He thought, resting his hands on the armrests.

"...Is there something that you want from us?" 208 asked in a subdued voice.

Mikhail waited for the tension to build before he responded softly. "Yes, that’s why I summoned you."

208 let out a self-deprecating laugh. "How can a helpless unawakened person help you..."

Mikhail gave him a deep look and thought to himself. ’He is a normal vampire, huh?’

A strange idea appeared in his mind. ’Can I awaken him?’

Just as he thought it, the status screen — visible only to him, appeared in front of him.

[Would you like to use five Authority points to Awaken him?]

[Yes/No]

Mikhail looked at the screen with a blank expression. ’So, I can.....’

Thinking it over, Mikhail found something interesting.

’I can only change things that are in this space, and only the soul of 208 is here. Does that mean Awakening is related to the soul?’

Mikhail didn’t let his thoughts wander as he slowly looked away from 208.

’How should I earn more Authority points?’

If he awakened 208, Mikhail would be left with only one point.

He didn’t want to spend the five points before finding a way to get them back.

Just then the status screen appeared in front of his eyes again.

[The Outer God is built from the sufferings of other Gods.]

Mikhail stared at the message for a long second before dismissing it.

’Does that mean I have to disrupt the plans of other gods or actively take away their influence?’

Mikhail grasped the message but wasn’t fully convinced that was the whole truth.

’Maybe there is something else I am missing.’

Still, he formed a plan from what he had.

"I want knowledge." Mikhail said, looking at both of them. "In return for the knowledge you provide, I will give you corresponding rewards."

’Rewards?’ Amaira’s eyes lit up. ’Can I wish for anything?’

On the other hand, 208 had grown even more anxious and cautious.

He didn’t dare ask why a deity-like being would need knowledge from them.

Instead, he asked in a subdued voice. "What type of knowledge do you need?"

"Anything." Mikhail replied deeply. "As long as it is related to gods, cults, history or even the civilisations of old, it is all of use to me."

’Why would he need that?’ Amaira thought, tilting her head. ’Is he after the gods?’

She immediately thought of the Sovereign Mother and grew anxious. ’Should I really tell him about her?’

208 had no such reservations. He just wanted to obey and return safely.

’...It’s not like there is anything left for me there.’ He thought grimly.

Pushing the thought aside, he said slowly. "I heard from my seniors that this year’s blood sacrifice for Mother Lilith will be the last, and the Vespera royal family will finally be free from her curse."

Mikhail held back the urge to tilt his head. ’Lilith? The same one from earth? And the Vespera family is really cursed?’

Mikhail had heard of the family from his history classes. It was a family that had been the leading force behind the massacre of humans on the Moonshade Continent.

Amaira, who had heard of them as well, couldn’t help but frown. "The royal family is cursed?"

208 nodded his head.

"It is common knowledge among noble families. They angered Mother Lilith and because of it, every full moon they lose control and start killing anyone close to them."

’That is interesting news....’

Mikhail thought, staring at him without response.

’If I sold this to the church I would most definitely earn a few hundred thousand Telen.’

Though Mikhail wasn’t stupid enough to get the church on his back by revealing such information.

Mikhail turned his gaze to the elven lady.

’W-what should I tell him?’

Amaira immediately tensed up as her mind began to race.

A thought quickly appeared. ’...Revealing a royal secret to save my life is worth it, right?’

She straightened her posture before she began. "The royal family of elves has discovered something interesting about the Inshel Kingdom."

Mikhail leaned forward slightly. ’Ah, the kingdom with the descendants of the God of War. The ones who are sabotaging any talks of peace with the elves...’

Amaira said in a subdued voice. "They believe the royal family of Inshel isn’t actually worshipping the God of War."
