Eternal Life Starts from Tai Chi-Chapter 93: You Can’t Handle It, the Han Family of Brocade City
Han Bingyu got the hang of things quickly. After receiving Yang Chan’s instructions, she took the initiative to help out in the Pharmacy. She was also adept at playing to her strengths, and with the help of a male Pharmacist’s Assistant, she soon familiarized herself with the complex duties of the role.
The whole process even spared Yang Chan from having to teach her, making his job much easier. As for anything else... that was another matter entirely.
"Pharmacist Yang, that new Pharmacist’s Assistant of yours is no simple woman. You’re still young—she’s too much for you to handle!"
Zhao Yi had naturally noticed Han Bingyu’s actions. Her name and personality were complete opposites; her smooth maneuvers made it obvious she was long accustomed to playing all sides.
"How could a daughter of the Han Family from Brocade City be simple?"
Yang Chan wasn’t surprised by Han Bingyu’s methods. In fact, it was precisely why he had chosen her; a person like her was useful to him.
"The Han Family of Brocade City, one of the eight great merchant families of Qing State. No wonder."
"Still, Pharmacist Yang, you should be mindful of your boundaries."
Zhao Yi nodded after hearing this.
There were many merchants in Qing State, but only eight were famous enough to be known as the Eight Great Merchant Families. Most of them were aligned with the Cyan Yuan Sect, acting as its Affiliated Forces. The rest were Imperial Merchants of the Great Zhou Imperial Family.
The Cyan Yuan Sect had ties with the Great Zhou Imperial Dynasty and was still under its rule, so the Imperial Merchants had not pledged allegiance to the Sect. Even so, these Imperial Merchants still offered a portion of their resources and silver taels to the Cyan Yuan Sect as tribute each year.
Hearing this, a possibility occurred to Zhao Yi.
He knew that Yang Chan could already refine the Lantian Jade Refining Pill. These Superior External Cultivation Elixirs were naturally extremely precious. Their selling price within the Cyan Yuan Sect was significantly suppressed; off the mountain, they were so sought-after they were practically unavailable for purchase.
If Yang Chan were to sell some of them off the mountain, he would undoubtedly make a fortune, and this was something the Cyan Yuan Sect would tolerate.
As long as he wasn’t supplying large quantities to hostile forces and the majority still went to the disciples of the Cyan Yuan Sect, it was permissible.
It wasn’t unheard of for Pharmacists within the Sect to do so, but they all kept it within certain limits. As long as one didn’t cross the line, it was fine.
After all, the resources required for a Pharmacist to advance were immense. If they could become self-sufficient, it was a good thing for the Cyan Yuan Sect.
Take Yang Chan’s Refining of the Lantian Jade Refining Pill, for example. Each failure incurred significant costs, a portion of which was covered by the Sect. After a successful Refining, the majority of the pills went back to the Sect, which didn’t concern itself with the remainder.
That was why Zhao Yi had offered his final reminder.
"Pharmacist Zhao, don’t you know me by now? I’m content with what I have. I won’t dig my own grave."
Yang Chan didn’t explain in detail.
Selling Elixirs wasn’t actually his main objective, but he felt no need to explain that in detail.
"Pharmacist Yang, she really is an excellent woman. Though you’re still young, with your talent as a Pharmacist, I’m sure you can win her over."
"If you do, your future children are sure to have an easy life."
Zhao Yi shifted the topic again. From Yang Chan’s reply, he could tell that he hadn’t chosen this Pharmacist’s Assistant for her looks, but for her substance.
’Of course, when you get both looks and substance, that’s even better.’
"A dozen or so injured disciples were just sent back from Tan City! We need some Pharmacists to take a look, quickly!"
Just then, a Pharmacist’s Assistant ran over, panting heavily as he spoke to Yang Chan and the other Pharmacists.
Recently, injured disciples had been sent back from Tan City to the Cyan Yuan Sect every day. Most of their injuries weren’t severe, but they all required further treatment.
Their injuries required treatments like changing dressings, re-bandaging, and setting bones. They had essentially no Combat Power left and could only return to the Cyan Yuan Sect to rest and recover.
It had been the same when Yang Chan was in Taiyu City. Once their lives were no longer in danger, the injured disciples with little remaining Combat Power would be sent back to the Cyan Yuan Sect. A new batch of disciples would then be dispatched to Taiyu City as replacements.
Only after the Three Major Sects were annihilated were they all sent back to the Cyan Yuan Sect to recover.
During his time in the Pharmacy, Yang Chan had treated a steady stream of patients from Tan City, and from them, he had learned some basic information about the situation there.
Zhao Yi, Yang Chan, and the other Pharmacists immediately got up and went outside. The assistant’s urgency was a clear sign that the condition of the disciples sent back this time was likely dire.
It was just as they had expected. The disciples sent back this time were nearly all maimed or crippled, some of their faces completely drained of color. Under normal circumstances, they would have been given more time to recover before being transported back to the Cyan Yuan Sect.
This could only mean the situation in Tan City was even worse than anticipated.
However, Yang Chan and the others didn’t discuss the matter. Instead, they began treating the injured disciples who had been brought in.
The man Yang Chan was treating was in a terrible state—his lower body was almost entirely gone. The fact that he had made it back to the Cyan Yuan Sect alive was a feat in itself, a testament to his powerful will to live.
But his blood loss was severe. His face was deathly pale, and he was growing delirious.
"Quick, bring me a bowl of Qi Nourishing Soup."
Yang Chan ordered Han Bingyu, who was standing nearby. The first step was to use the Qi Nourishing Soup to help the man recover some of his Primordial Qi.
After giving the order, Yang Chan began re-dressing the man’s wounds. They were severe, so his first priority was to stanch the bleeding.
"Pour it down his throat. When he’s finished, bring me the Hemostatic Powder and some gauze."
"Don’t do it spoonful by spoonful, just pour it in. He desperately needs the Medicinal Power right now. He’ll die if you’re too slow."
Yang Chan continued, his brow furrowing as he saw her feeding the man slowly. He corrected her and offered a brief explanation at the same time.
The method of treatment varied depending on the patient’s condition. If there wasn’t severe blood loss, feeding the medicine slowly would have been fine. But this man’s condition was critical; if they moved too slowly, he would be a goner.
After hearing this, Han Bingyu didn’t say another word and poured the soup down the man’s throat. She then hurried in the direction Yang Chan was pointing to grab the Hemostatic Powder and gauze.
It was normal for her to be unfamiliar with everything at first, so Yang Chan pointed out where the medicines were, telling her the locations of various items he would need ahead of time.
Though their coordination wasn’t perfect, it was a decent first attempt at working together.
The disciple’s wounds were brought under control, his condition stabilized, and some color returned to his face.
"I need you to keep a close eye on him. If he develops a fever, breaks out in a cold sweat, or falls into a coma, notify me immediately. Any of those symptoms would be a very bad sign."
"The next two days are crucial. If none of those symptoms appear, he should pull through. So watch him closely for the next couple of days."
After finishing his work, Yang Chan took the towel Han Bingyu handed him and wiped the sweat from his face. Treating such a severely injured disciple required immense concentration; the slightest mistake could have been fatal.
"Understood, Pharmacist Yang."
Han Bingyu nodded quickly. Although her first task as a Pharmacist’s Assistant had been bumpy, it was ultimately a success. Judging by Yang Chan’s expression, he wasn’t going to yell at her, which was a relief.
She’d just heard from the other Pharmacist’s Assistants that they all got chewed out by the Pharmacists when they first started, and that you just had to get used to it.
