Chapter 37: The Young Master who comes to save the jade beauty

Xuan BaiShe stood there, his Sage monocle shining under the harsh light of the Deserted Lands. He displayed no trace of fatigue, his black clothes were impeccable. With the tip of his index finger, charged with a tiny fraction of his stabilized Frost Qi, he blocked the spear tip.

The weapon, although thrown by a Law Master, crackled and trembled against his finger, unable to advance a single millimeter further.

"BaiShe... you had asked people to follow me ?" she stammered, out of breath, her heart pounding no longer from fear, but because of the disturbing proximity of this man she was supposed to hate.

She sniffed, fighting against the tears of relief and mixed anger that threatened to overflow. The warmth of his body against hers completely destabilized her.

"BaiShe ! What are you doing here !?" she finally exclaimed, trying to free herself from his embrace while remaining prisoner of the quiet strength of his arm.

BaiShe slowly lowered his index finger, and the spear fell to the ground with an insignificant metallic clink. His gaze turned toward the bandits who had frozen, terrified by this apparition.

"I simply came to make sure that my precious little sister does not ruin this pretty face ," he replied with an enigmatic smile that made Ling’er shiver to the bone.

He turned toward the Law Masters, his aura changing abruptly. The affable young scholar disappeared to give way to a spiritual pressure so dense that it crushed the surrounding rocks. His silver eyes shone with a cold and domineering glow.

"As for you... you dared to touch what belongs to me," he declared in a voice that no longer had anything human.

"The price of your stupidity has just caused your loss."

Ling’er, nestled against him despite herself, realized that this bastard was protecting his property. And in this hell she could not help feeling, even if she hated it, really safe.

"Return to the domain, Ling’er," he ordered. His voice was soft, but it carried an authority that accepted no refusal. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚

Ling’er, whose hands were still trembling from the effect of adrenaline and exhaustion, seized the shaft of her weapon.

She raised her golden eyes with a visceral hatred shining in her gaze.

"You have no orders to give me BaiShe !" she retorted while clenching her teeth, her voice betraying an emotional instability she tried to mask behind tsundere arrogance.

The young scholar did not even bother to answer her.

He adjusted his Sage monocle with a slow gesture, diverting his attention from the young woman to fix the surviving bandits. His face, usually adorned with a nonchalant smile had become cold.

"How dare you attack what belongs to me ?" he asked.

Ling’er froze, even in her previous life, she had never seen this expression on his face. In public, he was always calm, a model of intellectual virtue. When he revealed his true Devourer nature, he generally wore a psychopathic smile, an ecstasy of a predator savoring his prey. But this coldness... this contained rage in those eyes was unprecedented.

" This is the first time that... He is angry ? " she murmured to herself.

At that moment, BaiShe stopped concealing his cultivation base. A powerful Qi, dense and oppressive like the weight of a mountain, surged from his body. The energy swirled around him, making small rock debris levitate and cracking the ground.

The bandit leader, a Law Master stepped back, his eyes widened in terror.

"He is also a Law Master at Peak stage !? How is this possible !?" he exclaimed, his voice strangled by the spiritual pressure.

"The young master of the Xuan family is only twenty years old, right ?" added another attacker, whose Dantian groaned under the constraint.

"How can he be a Law Master, and at this level of density ?"

The third leader, undoubtedly the most fanatical, spat on the ground to regain composure. His bloodthirsty red eyes fixed on the promised bounty.

"No matter !" he shouted, drawing a curved blade impregnated with qi.

"We have been handsomely paid to kill Lady Xuan Ling. Even the young master of the immortal Xuan family will not prevent us from accomplishing our mission. It concerns the honor of our organization !"

While the three Law Masters exchanged glances to launch a coordinated attack, BaiShe literally disappeared from their field of vision. The structure of space seemed to bend under his will. In a fraction of a second, he reappeared directly in front of one of the assassins.

The man did not even have time to raise his blade.

BaiShe, with an economy of movement bordering on perfection, placed his index finger a few millimeters from his opponent’s forehead.

A projection of pure sword Qi burst from his finger. The blade pierced the skull through and through, exiting at the back in a spray of grayish brain matter and blood. The body collapsed.

"He is undoubtedly a Law Master at Peak stage," analyzed the bandit leader with a cold sweat. "But we have the advantage of numbers ! Kill him !"

BaiShe launched himself into the melee, his body moving with supernatural fluidity. With a simple gesture of the hand.

< Arts : Illusory Swords >

Dozens of translucent blades, formed of pure Qi materialized around him. They swirled like a silver hurricane, mowing down the Spiritual Core stage bandits who tried to approach him. Limbs flew, torsos were cleanly sectioned, and the ground of the Deserted Lands quickly soaked with scarlet blood.

Simultaneously, he used his elemental affinity to freeze the battlefield.

< Art : Frost Yin Qi >

A wave of absolute cold spread from his feet. The suspended dust transformed into ice crystals, and the attackers’ meridians began to freeze, slowing their movements. BaiShe moved through this massacre with an elegance avoiding every blow with millimeter shifts, his hands still joined behind his back.

However, the Law Masters aware of their technical inferiority, changed strategy. They understood that BaiShe, despite his power, was forced to divide his attention to protect the area.

"He will not hold for long !" shouted the leader, while orchestrating a diversion maneuver with his last men.

One of the attackers, an agile Law Master specialized in speed techniques took advantage of a Qi explosion caused by the illusory swords to bypass the young master. Instead of attacking BaiShe, he abruptly pivoted and rushed toward Xuan Ling, who was watching the combat, petrified by her brother’s demonstration of strength.

BaiShe turned around, his silver eyes widening. He was too far. Even with his speed, the distance prevented him from intercepting the assassin before his blade met Ling’er’s throat.

"LING’ER !!!!" he shouted, his voice breaking the mask of calm to reveal an authentic distress.
