Deceiving Her Ears: Ignoring Your Call-Chapter 185: Can’t Hold Back the Anger Anymore
Lucas couldn’t handle Isaac Vaughn. He just pulled out his phone to call Natalie, when he saw her coming out of the building.
"Why are you coming downstairs?" He put away his phone and strode toward Natalie, grumbling, "Damn, Second Master Vaughn is such a stubborn pain in the ass!"
Natalie glanced at Isaac a few steps away and walked over to him.
Isaac quietly looked at her standing right in front of him, his beautiful face completely cold.
He looked like a kid who’d done something wrong, his voice hoarse, "I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to cause any trouble."
"Then what do you want?" Natalie asked him calmly.
Isaac licked his parched lips, "I just want to stay here for a little while."
Natalie pressed on, "How long is ’a little while’? When are you planning to leave?"
Isaac stopped talking.
Just then Lucas walked over too, chiming in sarcastically, "He just wants to play the sympathy card, as if we can’t tell? You want me to arrange some artificial rain for you? Might make you look even sadder. Isn’t that how they do it in the movies?"
Lucas leaned close to Natalie, "You can see through his little tricks too, right?"
"No sympathy cards, no tricks at all." Isaac looked at Natalie and said, "Go upstairs and get some rest. You just started feeling a bit better, you really should take care of yourself."
Natalie didn’t say a word, just turned and walked away.
Lucas hadn’t reacted yet. When he came to, he hurried to catch up.
Isaac watched Natalie’s back, watching her until she disappeared into the stairwell. He still didn’t look away, still staring intently.
Inside the stairwell.
Natalie pulled out her phone and dialed Vanessa Grant’s number.
Before she could say anything, she heard Vanessa’s anxious voice on the other end:
"Hello? Nat, I was just about to call you! Isaac, he..."
"He’s downstairs outside my building."
"Thank God, that’s great, that’s great." Vanessa sighed in relief when she heard that.
Natalie didn’t get what was so great about it.
"Could you send someone over to take him home?"
"Uh..."
To her surprise, Vanessa hesitated.
She’d clearly been worried sick about her son a second ago, but now suddenly she wasn’t in a rush anymore.
"Nat, it’s just—I’m kind of busy right now and can’t get away."
"..."
"Nat, do you think you could do me a favor and drop Isaac off?"
"..."
"Okay then, Nat, thank you so much."
Before Natalie could refuse, Vanessa hung up on her.
Natalie put away her phone. Lucas asked, "So? His family’s coming to pick him up, right?"
Natalie gave Lucas a look. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
Lucas opened the car door and got in. From the rearview mirror he saw Isaac sitting in the back, gazing longingly at Natalie, but Natalie just got in the passenger seat.
Isaac dropped his eyes in disappointment.
Seeing him get shut down, Lucas was absolutely thrilled.
He gripped the steering wheel, beaming at Natalie, "Buckle up, we’re heading out."
Natalie didn’t get why Lucas was suddenly acting so excited.
Maybe it was being a new dad—his brain probably got scrambled with joy.
Now she could sort of understand why Assistant Woods wasn’t too keen on keeping the baby.
With a dad like this, it’s possible the other half would end up with a "record."
Lucas’s driving was solid, and they got to the hospital quickly.
"I’ll wait for you in the car. Once you drop him off, I’ll take you home," Lucas said, chin lifted to Natalie.
Natalie nodded.
She got out, waited for Isaac to follow, and then headed into the hospital.
When they reached the hospital room door, Natalie didn’t enter. She turned to leave.
Just as she took a step, someone grabbed her wrist.
"Little Ear, let me walk you out."
Hearing that, Natalie finally lost her temper.
