Chapter 221: Chapter 221: He Is Her Confidence

As their eyes met, Stella Grant saw seriousness in Silas Sutton’s smiling gaze.

For a moment, she clearly felt the cracks appear in the emotional walls she’d built deep inside herself over time.

The fissure was small, but it was enough for her to really feel its existence.

Stella took a deep breath, "Silas Sutton."

Silas said with a smile, "Don’t rush to reject or be moved. Matters of the heart should go slowly; only time will reveal the true character of a person."

The conversation had reached the point where they were laying everything bare, and Stella said through gritted teeth, "But you haven’t given me the time to come slowly."

From that drunken encounter to the subsequent entanglements.

She wasn’t foolish, she could sense his strategic maneuvering.

Upon hearing Stella’s words, Silas lowered his eyes with a soft laugh, concealing the obscured emotion in his gaze, and said in a deep voice, "Maybe I’ve already given you plenty of time, haven’t I?"

Stella didn’t catch it, "What?"

Silas raised his eyes, extended a large hand, and clasped the back of Stella’s head, kissing the corner of her lips, "Stella, feel free to use me, lean on me, don’t back down, don’t have any worries."

Stella couldn’t help but ask, "What’s in it for you?"

Silas replied plainly, "For you."

When Silas leaned in for another kiss, Stella didn’t struggle nor resist.

When the kiss ended, Silas’ large hand fell from the back of her head, settled on her nape, and pressing her against his shoulder, he spoke in a low voice, "I know you, you’re capable, gutsy, skilled. But right now, you’re always cautious, hesitant, what you lack is confidence."

Confidence to face societal challenges.

Because without enough social standing, no matter how capable you are, you’ll inevitably struggle.

After speaking, Silas pinched her neck and solemnly said, "From now on, I’ll be your confidence."

Stella rested her chin on his shoulder, silent.

Silas joked, piercing her vulnerability, "After keeping silent for so many years, don’t you want to really play big this time?"

Stella felt a stirring in her heart, "I do."

Silas said, "The Grant Family’s stage is too small, limiting your performance. Come play at The Sutton Family, I’ll take you into something bigger."

Stella asked, "Will it be dangerous?"

Silas replied, "No. If it ever reaches that point, I’ll do everything to protect you."

Some men’s promises make you doubt right away if they’ll get struck by lightning.

But Silas’s didn’t.

Stella inexplicably believed that he would do what he said.

Stella accepted Silas’ proposal.

Perhaps it was because she knew too well that she was already stuck in the mud of the Sutton Family and couldn’t get out, or maybe, as Silas said, she wanted an outlet after being stifled for years, or perhaps she couldn’t bear to see him alone...

The next day.

Stella got up early, and when she went downstairs for breakfast, Silas was already sitting across from her.

They exchanged glances, both appearing quite open.

Stella sat down, recalling how he had looped his arm around her waist when she left his room last night, asking whether she could move back to the master bedroom.

She squinted at him and said, "Silas Sutton, your fox tail is showing."

Once Stella sat, Aunt Adler served the breakfast on the table.

Stella took a couple of bites, then raised her head to ask Silas, "Did Miles Sutton’s hospitalization have anything to do with you?"

Knowing they had laid their cards on the table, Silas didn’t hide, "Thirty percent. I did hire someone to scare him, but his leg injury was his own doing, playing the martyr."

Stella commented, "He’s quite ruthless."

Silas scoffed lightly, "In desperation to smear me, he’s no longer concerned about his own well-being."

Stella smirked slightly, "When we have time, I’ll accompany you to the hospital to see him."

Silas looked up quizzically, "Oh?"

Stella replied lightly, "Haven’t you heard the saying? You must learn to embrace your enemy; if you don’t, how will you know how big a pit to dig to bury them?"

Silas teased, "Makes sense."

Stella said, "Chloe Underwood’s little tactics, even if you find them beneath you, you shouldn’t ignore them. Don’t take them too seriously, just treat it as recreational while bored. Just back me up."

Silas hadn’t expected Stella to change so much overnight, and chuckled lightly, "Settled in so quickly?"

Stella picked up a napkin to wipe her mouth, "Taking payment, managing problems, the commission from Shawn Bishop’s project was too easy, I should make you feel like the money spent was worthwhile."

Once Stella finished, Silas’s long fingers lightly tapped the spoon handle, smiling with an inscrutable look, "Stella, are you allergic to romance?"

Stella raised an eyebrow, "Hmm?"

Silas continued, "In this atmosphere and setting, shouldn’t you say you’re doing this because you care about me deeply?"
