Deceiving Her Ears: Ignoring Your Call-Chapter 186: Now He’s Feeling Wronged
Jerking Isaac Vaughn’s hand away forcefully, Natalie snapped, "Isaac, are we playing house here? I give you something, you give me something, and we call it fun?"
"Little Ear, don’t be mad." Isaac’s voice was low as he spoke, "I didn’t mean to make you angry."
Didn’t mean to, but you still did.
Now he even looks hurt.
"I just want a chance to atone. I’m just asking you to give me a chance to make it up to you. I’ll do anything, really."
"No need," Natalie said flatly, her face expressionless. "I don’t need your atonement. It means nothing to me."
Isaac’s chest suddenly tightened.
His voice trembled, "People have to pay for their wrongs, I..."
Natalie didn’t want to hear another word. She turned and walked away.
After two steps, she stopped abruptly, turned and stared at Isaac, who was just about to follow, warning him, "Don’t follow me again."
Isaac stood where he was, his figure like a lonely, withered tree drifting in the wind.
Natalie had just gotten downstairs when she ran into Vanessa Grant.
"Nat." 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
Vanessa saw Natalie’s pale face and pulled her aside, "Did Isaac make you mad?"
Natalie looked at Vanessa and spoke bluntly, "You must know about my divorce with him by now."
When Vanessa heard that, her eyes dimmed slightly.
"That day, I picked Isaac up from the doors of the civil affairs bureau. I’ve never seen him so lost before. He said he didn’t feel well, so I called a doctor to check on him."
At this point, Vanessa suddenly stopped.
Something seemed to have struck her, and she needed to compose herself before she could go on.
Natalie noticed her eyes had reddened.
Her instinct told Natalie that maybe it was best not to hear what was coming next.
But Vanessa didn’t give her the chance and went on anyway.
"Isaac was hiding under the covers, and when I lifted the blanket, I saw he was crying."
Natalie was silent for a few seconds, her voice dropping low: "I’m sorry."
Vanessa sniffed quickly and said, "No, Nat, I’m not blaming you. If you’re splitting up with Isaac, surely it’s his fault."
Natalie didn’t reply.
"It’s just..."
Originally, Vanessa wanted to say something decent for her son, maybe ask Natalie to give him another chance, but before she could get the words out, Natalie had already apologized, saying she had something to do and had to leave.
Lucas Lowell saw Natalie come out of the hospital, her face even paler than before.
He frowned, and when Natalie opened the passenger side door and got in, he said, "Want to get checked out? We’re right at the hospital and your face is as white as paper."
"I’m fine." Natalie pulled her seatbelt over and fastened it.
On the way back, she leaned against the window with her eyes closed.
Lucas glanced at her now and then, holding back, but finally couldn’t help himself, "If getting divorced hurts so much, why do it?"
Natalie didn’t answer.
Lucas dropped her off downstairs and asked if she wanted him to walk her up, but Natalie said no, thanked him for the trouble today.
Lucas waved her off, watched her enter the building, and only then drove away.
Natalie opened the door and went home, collapsing wearily into the sofa.
Thirty seconds later.
She abruptly opened her eyes.
Something’s off.
The house was too quiet. Eerily quiet.
Every time she came home, Jordan Rivers always rushed out to greet her.
With that in mind, Natalie got up at once and headed to the bedroom. She pushed the door open. Empty.
She went to the guest room, opened the door, still empty.
Jordan Rivers was gone.
Cynthia Kendall was gone too.
Did Cynthia take Jordan Rivers away?
Forcing herself to stay calm, Natalie pulled out her phone and dialed Cynthia Kendall’s number.
"Sorry, the number you have dialed is powered off..."
