Chapter 141: Chapter 133: I’d Rather Jump into the Sea Than Stay with You! (Part 4)

Laura Quincy promptly rejected her friend’s suggestion, "That’s your approach to chasing women, don’t apply it to me. When picking her up this afternoon, keep your words to a minimum."

Sean Vaughn pouted reluctantly, "Alright!"

At 4:36 PM, the high-speed train arrived on time at Norcastle Station. Laura Quincy followed the crowd slowly out of the station with her suitcase. The northern winter was indeed much colder than the south.

The only difference was that the south was a damp cold, while the north was dry cold.

As soon as she exited the station, she felt her skin tighten. It truly was the dry climate of the north!

After a few steps, she saw a man in a dark gray wool coat holding a sign with "Laura Quincy" written in large letters. He had eyes that naturally seemed to smile, making him particularly noticeable in the crowd.

Laura Quincy walked over to him and greeted him with a smile, "Hello, thank you."

Sean Vaughn squinted his eyes and discreetly sized her up, laughing, "From afar, I could tell you’re the classy lady I was here to pick up. As expected! Hello, I’m Sean Vaughn, Jonah Xavier’s college roommate and close buddy."

He extended his hand in a friendly manner.

Laura generally didn’t like overly slick men, but despite his talkative nature, the man before her wasn’t unpleasant. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

Moreover, his gesture of extending a hand was polite, without any lewd or improper intention.

Laura politely reached out, "Hello, my name is Laura Quincy, high school classmate of Jonah Xavier."

It was just a brief second before Sean Vaughn let go of her hand and then gallantly helped her with the luggage.

After getting in the car, Laura thought: After all, he is a friend of Jonah Xavier, he can’t be too bad.

"Anything in particular you want to see in Norcastle since it’s your first time here?"

Sean Vaughn seemed to be naturally sociable, quickly starting the conversation.

Laura paused for a second, "No, I want to settle down and find a job first."

Sean quickly replied, "Why rush to find a job? If you’re here in Norcastle, you should explore a bit, experience the city’s charm."

Laura smiled, "It’s too cold to see any scenery out there. I’ll wait until spring next year!"

Sean touched his nose, "That’s true; the air quality hasn’t been great recently. Miss Quincy, make sure to be cautious about the smog and buy a mask."

Laura smiled, "Yes, I’ve heard about it before coming."

Sean chuckled, "Indeed! Norcastle’s smoggy weather is quite infamous."

As they continued chatting, the topic turned to Jonah Xavier, of course initiated by Sean Vaughn, "They say high school friendships are the most genuine. Are you and Jonah good friends?"

Laura paused, "Not bad, Counselor Xavier is a great person!"

Upon hearing this, Sean immediately felt hopeful, "He truly is outstanding! In our dormitory of six, he worked the hardest. Despite having a good family background, he never showed any pretentiousness, always among the top three in the school, winning scholarships every year, and the most sought-after ’school heartthrob’ among girls. We envied him so much..."

Recalling the college days, Sean couldn’t stop talking.

Laura kept smiling and listening. She wasn’t too clear on Jonah Xavier’s family background, but judging from his demeanor, she knew he was well-educated.

She didn’t concern herself with these matters.

"So, are you a lawyer too?"

"I’m a prosecutor, a government employee with a fixed salary, no comparison to Counselor Xavier. Not to mention his annual salary, he also has more freedom than me."

"Everyone has their perks!"

"That’s a fair statement, but Jonah was indeed the most driven and promising among us."

Even if Laura wasn’t naive, she could hear that Sean was deliberately speaking highly of Jonah in front of her and felt a bit awkward. Could Jonah have permitted this?

When this possibility occurred to her, she felt she couldn’t owe Jonah any favors anymore, or she’d never be able to repay them all.

Sigh...

Aethelburg.

Aegis Group, CEO’s office on the fifty-ninth floor.

"BOSS, Miss Quincy has safely arrived in Norcastle. A man picked her up at the high-speed rail station. The license plate is NorA. I checked; he’s a prosecutor named Sean Vaughn."

Jason Hawthorne frowned, "When did Laura Quincy have such a friend?"

Mason Cross mused, "I think...this person should be a friend of Counselor Xavier."

Jason’s brow furrowed with coldness as he sniped, "Jonah Xavier? He’s quite dedicated!"

Mason broke into a cold sweat, "Additionally, Counselor Xavier has already booked a flight to Norcastle tomorrow morning, saying he needs to handle some personal matters. We have no reason to refuse."

Jason frowned deeply, "Keep a close watch on him and report any movements to me immediately."

Mason nodded, "Rest assured, BOSS, I understand."

After a pause, he added, "Miss Quincy called the young master this morning according to the servants. Miss Quincy promised to let the young master visit her."

Jason’s eyes brightened, "Is that so? Then closely monitor Laura’s actions in Norcastle these days, and book two tickets for next Wednesday’s flight to Norcastle."

Mason froze for two seconds, "Isn’t Wednesday a bit too soon..."

Jason’s lips pressed tightly, "Then make it Friday."

Mason nodded to accept. Over the past few days, he had basically figured out that Miss Quincy discovered she had a child five years ago, and it’s no wonder she’s upset with the BOSS...

Anyone would have a hard time accepting this suddenly!

"Moreover, Miss Quincy visited the Turner Family recently. She wants her stepmother Ruth Leighton to return five million, and she gave her a week."

"Hmm, keep an eye on this too. If necessary, teach that woman a lesson."

"Yes."

Mason thought: I’ve totally become a gofer... But the lesson BOSS mentioned, does it mean hiring someone to fight or...

Jason added another sentence, "Make sure to get that five million back for Laura. As for how to handle it, you decide."

Mason had a series of black lines in resignation, "Understood, BOSS."
